    wow dude I just did this, I listened to both very closely and it's INSANE. With the foam it sounds more muffled and bassy which is fine if you more lows. but now it's like I have a whole sound stage. IT'S AMAZING. WOW!! Thank you!!!

    Here’s a simple way to store those foam pads so the adhesive won’t stick to anything. Those adhesives are aggressive and even sticking them to the side of a polyethylene bag may result in their being really difficult to peel back away without damage to them or the bag tearing (who cares about the bag but you wouldn’t want parts of it stuck to the adhesive on the foam, since that would occlude airflow if reinstalled where it originally was in the back of the housings; making them even more bassy than before).
    Go find one of those adhesive label sheets used in inkjet or laser printers, peel off the paper labels and use the part you’d normally discard as the storage placard for the removed foam rectangles. Be sure to stick the foams to the SHINY side and not the bare paper backside. At that point, you can put the foams in a Baggie or whatever and not have to worry about them sticking to anything other than the easily-removed placard. Don’t smoosh them onto the placard. Apply just enough pressure to make certain they won’t be going anywhere while in storage.
    The old label placards they used to provide for labeling floppy disks also work fine, but floppies are on the endangered species list and those labels may now be hard to find.
    If you have a Teflon-coated surface of any kind or just a square of Teflon plastic itself; almost nothing sticks to that with any degree of bonding strength.
    Another alternative is to use plain old wax paper. That’s not the preferred method since the wax they use on that stuff might leech into the adhesive over time and ruin the properties of the adhesive.
    Any time an adhesive backed foam threatens to tear apart when trying to peel it off, a stream of warm air from a hair dryer often softens the adhesive just enough to peel the foam up without damage. Watch the temperature…some hair dryers get really hot and can melt or soften the ABS from which a lot of headphone shells are molded.
    You can also make your own foam acoustic impedances from certain grades of foam sheeting and get that to stick over grilles using a spray adhesive on one side. A general purpose adhesive like 3M Type 77 works well. You NEVER spray it directly onto the foam. It has to be applied using a transfer method: spray a light coat of the adhesive onto something like a piece of printer paper, take your precut foam and holding it with tweezers; lightly touch the entire side of the foam to the sprayed area. That transfers just enough adhesive to the foam to get it to stick without clogging up the pores. Work quickly…that adhesive dries fast. Once the foam has the adhesive applied, simply place it where it belongs and GENTLY press it down. Let it set for a couple of hours and you’ll have a fresh acoustic impedance to try out once you get the phones reassembled.

    Thank you, I've never really liked my 558s, a little too bassy, they sound more to my liking now.

    Сделал мод. на наушниках HD 559. Потому что наивно думал, что это как то влияет на ту БАСОВУЮ часть в наушниках.
    НЕ работает. Специально много раз прослушивал звук меняя наушники, чтобы зафиксировать разницу. Вторые наушники это Audio Technica m40x закрытого типа.
    Так вот - на Sennheiser как была басовитая гулкость, залезающая на средние частоты и подавляющая высокие, так никуда и не ушла.

      @@tridoshic1688 supposedly, it makes it more airy and subtly increases spaciousness of the sound. It has a slight impact on the treble (increases it a tiny bit). Bass is largely unaffected. This is what I have READ as I am still afraid to do it myself (just got a pair). However, as it is reversible, I may give it a shot.

      @@AbdullahMirza2piR I did it 10 seconds ago and there's not a huge difference. Is it better? yes. But if someone did it without telling me I probably wouldn't ever know. The mod is SOOOOO easy it took 60 seconds a side just do it you might as well

      @AbdullahMirza2piR 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@emoryjenkins6481 update: I did it, but I decided to switch back after around 15 minutes. The treble became too piercing and the bass was messed up. Even though you sacrifice a little bit of clarity, I prefer leaving the foam in, because everything just sounds way more natural.

    Does the foam mod apply to the newer HD 559? Do they still have the piece to remove?

      Actually the drivers in both headphones are identical the only difference is the colour of the housing and the foam on the 558.
