    Actually Watching this review with the HD 558's. When i opened them the first thing i noticed was the padding and these are probably the most comfortable headphones i've ever worn.

    I have had these for over 8 years and they are good as the day I bought them, no... better. I have replaced the earpads but besides that they're the best over ears I've ever used.

    I had these earphones for almost 3 years and I love them. I like the fact that they are not noise cancelling. Ive always had a hard time packing them on trips but you made my life easier, only to find out i can remove the bloody cord from the headphone itself.. Hahhaah. Thank you! By the way, spot on review thats why i love them!!!

    This was a great video. I think disclosures at the end are just fine, as I think the up front disclosures tend to come across less as transparent and more as a mea culpa for no reason. It's defensive by nature.
    I do get that people appreciate transparency and honesty up-front, but this isn't a financial transaction or a read between the lines thing. Colin's reviews are thorough and honest, and he completely discloses it at the end -- as is his style -- after the viewer has considered his words and sentiment.
    Keep up the great videos.

    Found these for 3 bucks at the local garage sale. Owners probably had no idea that these are still worth like at least 70$. Amazing sound.

    Picked up a set for $5 at a thrift store today. They had a 1m-ish braided cable with a 3.5mm jack that had a 1/4" adapter that screwed onto it. They're in perfect condition and sound wonderful for $5!!

    after many hours of looking i finally find the right pair of headphones to eventually buy. finally. i just want ones for music. these are supposedly well balanced which is exactly what i was looking for. not overly bass pronounced. not more treble than mids. these should be great for me as i got a huge music collection consisting of cd, vinyl, cassette, and 8 track.

    Great review. Felt honest, precise and didn't overdo it. I would not class myself as an audiophile so some of the terms they use I don't understand. I do however want better than average sound from my audio. As an adult I do have a larger budget than I did in my teens but I don't just want to spend a lot of money for the sake of it. Please please do a review of the Philips shp9500 . Subscribed, thank you

    • @pk.002
      @pk.002 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Shp9500's are great, I have them in addition to the 558's. The main difference I noticed that the Shp9500 is a brighter headphone and has less bass. The 558 is warmer and has a tad more bass. Personally I love both but the 558's get used more by me.

    You should do a review of the HD 579. They are newer and have no reviews anywhere

    • @TheJoeHindy
      @TheJoeHindy 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The sound signature is very similar to the 558s. By similar, I mean "it's the same". The high end and subbass is definitely clearer. However, the 579s have a small issue in the upper midrange that the 558s don't have. However, everything except the upper mid range is clearer.
      The build quality is better (the grill on the outside of the cups is metal instead of plastic and cloth mesh), and the gray color looks more flashy. The earcups are literally identical (you can switch the 558/555/595 earcups for the 579 ear cups) so they're replaceable. The headband on the 558 is wildly superior to the 579s. I like the look and idea of the leather headband, but the 558s are replaceable.
      Both use the same 2.5mm locking mechanism. They both come with exactly the same 3m cable with the 3.5mm adapter.
      If you own the 558s, the 579s aren't worth the money to upgrade. You're getting like a 10% improvement (with a slight downgrade in the upper midrange) and most of that is in the treble and the lower bass. The build quality is massively better, but the 558s are more repairable.
      However, if you're going for the 558s or the 579s, get the 579s. They are better (even if they're twice as expensive now lol).

    Headphones have different uses. This is known as an open back headphone meant for listening at home. Closed back headphones are better suited to travel and also generally have a smaller impedance and smaller gauge wire. Just felt I'd include the information since it can be a bit confusing.

    • @seanmilrad1634
      @seanmilrad1634 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flea open back are better for gaming,that is an important thing too because i see a lot of people that want to know if the 558's are better or less better than closed backs.

    I do a lot of competitive gaming (pretty much just CS:GO) which means I have to communicate with my team a lot. Do you think the headphones are loud enough that my Blue Yeti would pick up some of the sound from my headphones? Thanks.

    • @ThisDoesNotCompute
      @ThisDoesNotCompute  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you have them up fairly loud, then yes, headphone bleed will be an issue. At normal levels, probably not.

    I have the HD598SE, I've been told that the 558's are exactly the same, and the HD598's are not worth the money is this true?

    • @progamer00006
      @progamer00006 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      No... thats bullshit, they use the same drivers, but different casing decreases the soundstage a bit compared to the 598 and makes a bit warmer, and actually the overall build quality ond the 598 is nicer, cause the headband is made of that kind of fakelether and especially because the clamp is not as strong on the 598 what makes them more comfortable.

    • @ColAngus
      @ColAngus 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you do the foam mod they are supposed to sound about the same since they both use the same driver.

    • @progamer00006
      @progamer00006 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Col. Angus
      i heard that this was true with the HD 555/595, but not with the 598/558.
      The sound changes with the 558, yes, but i was told that it does not sound exactly like a HD 598 after you done the mod.

    • @ColAngus
      @ColAngus 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mr.Magnificent
      The 558 shares the same exact driver as the 598,probably won't sound exactly the same but people say the difference is negligible vs the extra cost. :)

    • @progamer00006
      @progamer00006 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Col. Angus
      hmm... id rather take the one with less clampingforce and a extra 1.5m 3.5mm jack cable for the +20$
