      Literally any house would do the same. Mobile homes are actually built to higher standards than most "regular" houses. I mean think about it. They have to be pulled down the highway to get to their destination. That's hurricane force winds there alone. The weakest point is where it connects to the ground. That's the only reason they're so dangerous in severe hurricanes and tornados. The whole structure will blow away before it actually falls apart.

      Yeah, all that lovely particleboard subfloor that turns to mush when the polybutylene water pipes inevitably leak. As a plumber, I've done more plumbing repairs on those things than I care to think about. Once saw a toilet that was sunken into the floor a good four inches, due to a longtime wax seal leak. I just told the owner he needed a carpenter, not a plumber. Then again, maybe he needed an appointment with this dude's excavator.

    A co-workers husband used to do house demolition. He told me a story of one job in a slum neighborhood, late 60's. House was abandoned as it had been lived in, nothing taken out, he was ordered to remove it all. They prepped it, run a choker cable around it to break it up on it's foundation, shut down for lunch. Hour and a half later, they were back. Fired up the cat and started pulling cable, "two young kids, boy and girl, suddenly come running out, away into the back alley. neither one had a stitch on them. Damnedest thing I ever seen!"
    I wonder how they explained the loss of a full set of cloths to their Momma!

    To watch how easily you operate and maneuver a piece of equipment to do just what you have in mind is almost poetic. Whether it is a skidsteer, a trackhoe or a dozer, you have just mastered them all. Oh how I wish you were closer so that we could have hired you to install our new 800 ft. driveway onto our 10 acres in North Idaho and prep the home site there. Chris, a recent addition of "This Old House" had volunteers enter a home and remove anything that was of any resale value. I remodeled a house using items from the kitchen and bathroom from mobile homes that were to be trashed. When I was done with the house, the owner said it looked like a million bucks. The cabinets were paneling and 1 by strips, but what was in the house was a cast iron single bowl sink and metal cabinets. I used the counter top and lighting from the mobile home as well. I also upgraded the electric service with the breaker box, replacing the old fuse box, paneled a room in the house with the salvaged materials and increased the overall appearance.
    My point is, we can do more to reduce waste, and others can benefit.

    I truly enjoyed that, made my day, don’t know why but it was hilarious to me, especially when you said “I will win” with the tire battle. Thanks for sharing.

    That trailer will not attract any Tornados anymore. Trailers equal Tornado Magnets. At least here in Texas, Okla and Kansas.

      It’s 40 years old, they just fall apart if you try and move them. They only made to be moved once when they are new basically

    I've torn down more mobile homes than I can count and I'll tell you this...those anchor straps will stop or hinder just about any size machine. The worst part is when you have a load, swing to dump it, and the strap gets tensioned and pull everything out of the bucket/thumb. It's frustrating enough to make you cuss that's for sure!

      PS - Those two sections of concrete, front door steps, one 5 steps & one 2 steps would run you about $850 + delivery. I just looked it up... You coulda sold those to a neighbor around there for $450 cash, delivered by excavator..... (or not)

    I always imagined they'd use the WHEELS to tow them away to their doom. Why not?

    • @gantmj
      @gantmj 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They're only made well enough to get them to where they're going the first time, then they deteriorate to the point where you'd spend too much effort to get them rotating again/getting good tires on. Then, who knows if the thing is sturdy enough to travel.

      It depends on the installers. Sometimes the axles and wheels get removed and sometimes not. As for towing the structure to a dump, highly doubtful it'd survive the trip. I'd imagine State Governments don't want it risked hauling on their roads.
