Funnily enough, my Grandfather was alive when this broadcast was played. He told me that he remembered - and his father relayed to him - that they continually stated over the radio that the broadcast was fictional. Unfortunately, he passed away a little over a year ago, so I can’t ask him further on any details, but it was always something that caught my attention and something I distinctly recall him telling me whenever this broadcast was brought up.
That was a fun presentation. I have the entire radio play on CD that came with a copy of H. G's book and a shorter one that came with the George Pal production, a remastered DVD of the 1953 classic.
A follow-up: the actor playing "The Secretary of the Interior" would go on to play the radio character "Senator Cogburn",and the artilleryman was played by Norman Lloyd, who would go onto acting and Working for Alfred Hitchcock, and the eccentric Doctor Auschlander in St. Elsewhere, and living until 2021.
the series resistance made reference to this, the second game even had a similar broadcast that ended with the man walking out, and is very hinted to either have killed himself or gave himself up to the Chimera, the invaders of the series.
Back before tv, internet cable, radio was the main mode of communication. Then news reels in movie theaters were the main modes of entertainment and getting your news.
To be honest, the radio broadcast was always one of my favorites. And it leaves to the imagination what the tripods in THAT looked like. Truly a great way to introduce newcomers to The War of The Worlds (If they don't want to read or listen to a 2 hour album.) This is just brilliant! Another great production by my favorite TWOTW Content creator
its easily the most digestible war of the worlds content for me: it parallels the original perfectly, while perhaps making them less HG wells in the best way possible. Wells style is great and I absolutely love it, but its alot easier to take in 40 minutes of "well, this was made in its time, about its time, if aliens who are capable of interplanetary travel before humans could even attempt to get into space... landed on earth with the intent of wiping us out" Then i either suggest the original book (for people who like to read) or for my music-lover friends, i recommend the musical. the musical not being a modernization of anything but the aliens is why i love it... the aliens feel even more advanced. Anything that places the aliens after the atomic age has the plothole of: humans probably would just nuke the world assuming it was actually soviets or americans, or as a scorched earth (in the most literal sense) to deny the aliens anything.
@DaMartianAl007 ah man, sorry. I have a habit of over-writing. I guess i should kept it at "Orson is how i usually introduce them to the general story. It involves the least commitment without sacrificing the themes"
just reallized the war of the worlds 1934 channel toke some tiny elements and parts of the radío broadcast to make their videos , such as their video about the RAF try to combat the Martians is almost the same thing as part of the broadcast where the US air force try to do same thing the RAF.
The fact that a lot of people took this radio broadcast seriously due to newspapers even tho most knew it was just fun and that it was a radio version of jumpin from a bush in a white bed sheet and saying boo makes me laugh, as I’ve either seen or watched yt vids of almost everything of war of the worlds Also I think that tripod is vibin there to say hello, or he’s an irs worker and collecting taxes, or a tripod heat ray salesman
The birth of unfiction and analog horror, right here. The Blair Witch Project, The 15 Experience, Marble Hornets, EverymanHYBRID, BEN Drowned, Local58, and countless other analog horror and unfiction projects that demolish the fourth wall took direct inspiration from this broadcast.
That series being so bad (imo) was actually what got me into making War of the Worlds videos lol. I was surprised no other channels were talking about how bad that series was, so was like 'Fine, I'll do it myself'. As for this thumbnail, I simply used them as I thought they had a creepy silhouette that I felt somewhat matched the Halloween setting.
@@pupbenny Dont get me wrong I loved the book, Jeff Waynes version, even liked the new film the Attack (with realy bad acting but kept close to the book) but The BBC version and i quote the Drinker had (THE MESSAGE!) and no one does Horsell Common right, its always a meteorite not a cylinder. I did enjoy Tom Cruise version but once again was very losley basd on the book. My favorite version of the book and tripods has got to be Jeff Waynes version, no one has come close since. Oh i forgot about the Pendragon film it was excatly like the book but the pacing and editing was terrible but it did have the thunder child in it 👍 Edit= been ejoying your videos for a while now and subbed lol

Wow
The tripod at the door is just the cherry on top of this latest Spooky Month treat you have given us.
Well done again.
Haha, I'm glad you liked it, thank you! :)

You're definitely spoiling us at the moment 🎉 Awesome WOTW coverage 👍👍👍
when you think about it, this broadcast really innovated several horror staples used in modern media like Analog Horror
this is great i loved this!

RAF does .*
Haven't watched it yet, but it would certainly make sense considering they're set so close together. :)
