Happy Easter everyone! Here's an Easter Special, the Egg Tripods as featured in Tintin Magazine!! And Happy 120th Birthday to the man that created these, Edgar Jacobs!! :)
Hi, I am Belgian. I have an original copy of this book by E. P. Jacobs with all of the illustrations in this video, and as a kid, I always thought that it was the original version of the War Of The Worlds. Thanks for bringing this design to light as I really love E. P. Jacobs.
I just found that disney did a brief War Of the Worlds animated sequence in its 1957 short MARS AND BEYOND. The interpretation of the martians is very unique.
That Humptri Dumptri rhyme was tight. Also FINALLY, caught one of these day one! (TH-cam refuses to show me your stuff on my feed even though I'm subbed with the bell, it's weird).
Man your videos are always so much fun to watch, I really enjoy em. ^ ^ And I wanna thank you for bringing back my interest in aliens and other alien-related things, to try and keep a long exposé short, from Middle School onwards my focus on a lot of intermingled subjects that I enjoy shifted away from what could be out there in space to more what's happening on Earth, and my love for story telling got dragged in by that shift too. I'll also admit that I also really enjoy writing stories, any kind of story in any way to express it, and that lately my style of story telling/writing has been science-fantasy (even though I try to just do just fantasy; not annoyed by that at all honestly, I find that more funny than anything); it wasn't until I found you that my love for alien based stories was brought back to the spotlight, and with all the new literature skills I've developed sense Middle School, I got to work writing my own take on War of The Worlds because, well, why not right? =) And another thing about me that many of my other literature-fan friends have pointed out to me lately, I seem to have a strange intuition for reinventing damn near anything without being aware that it already exists by any stretch of the imagination. The reason why I bring this up is because at 7:00 in this video, The Robot Samurai's arms are coming out of it's ridge thing. . I've done the exact same thing for my take on the Martians' handling machine which I call The Quad-pod (which yes is also based on the British coin that caused so much arguing); and at 19:30 where you mentioned that the TinTin Tripod's head can swivel around on the rim, I also came up with something incredibly similar for the Quad-pod and another war machine I gave to my interpretation of the War of The Worlds story. Anyways, again, thank you oh so very much for bringing aliens back from the depths of my brain and into the spotlight, I'm already having a lot of fun writing this story. And if ya want, I can tell ya what I have in mind/have created so far for this my take on the story as a fun conversation. Have a nice day pupbenny. =)
Hey pup! i absolutely adore your content, i got a suggestion for you, can you make a in depth video of the 2005 tripods? if you already have, that fine too.
I can't say that I've ever seen or heard of these tripods before - still not sure what to think of them, but they're certainly an intriguing design 🤔 In any case, thanks for introducing them to me. 👍
I believe the mirror on the jointed rod was more akin to a periscope rather than the thing that fired the heat ray. According to the text, the heat ray was generated from the “humped shape.”
I've gotten really into your tripod videos. I've gotten a good idea of what I like in different versions. I'd like to design my own take on the tripod at some point. Maybe even a short video of my WOTW concept if I have the means to do it. Thanks for the series
Yeah they're very obscure. In fact, when I first saw them I thought 'ah, I must do a video on these ones.' but I didn't write down and forgot any details about them. A couple of months later, when I wanted to actually make the video, it took me quite a while to find them again lol.
You are correct. The Goble tri pods always remind me of kettle barbecues on crane booms with rods and pulleys holding a bucket with a camera lens stuck on the side.
The classics tripod will probably be relatively soon (well, within the next couple of months I think). Not sure about the 6 legged one though. Should get around to it eventually, but probably not for a while.
14:05 that's really really cool, now it's one of my favorite wotw arts too Suggestion: I remember somewhere in the old days an trailer of an 2D game of the war of the worlds, it seemed pretty good to me at the time. Maybe an video explaining what was it? Their tripods where inspired on the 1953 probes i recall
There are also the tripods in the comic The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen by writer Alan Moore and late artist Kevin O'Neill. They don't really appear much but I mention this because you said Tin Tin doesn't crossover but I think he is reverenced in League. Extremely tenuous link but I wanted to bring it up.
The "eyes" could be large sensors and the black dots can be some kind of maybe antenna of some kind The white part could be the array of different sensors and the black part can be a small form of antenna or targeting system like a laser projector of some kind
16:08 this drawing has me thinking more like a shark actually. Sharks, before they take a bite, have a sort of 'protection' membrane that goes over their eyes to protect them. I'm not sure that's what E. P. Jacobs took inspiration from, but it could be a similar idea. Either as what actually happens or purposely how it appears, the eyes of the Tripod go from a little goofy or disturbing, then go blank, dark, lifeless before it attacks. The machine goes from 'alive' to soulless and dead in a instant.
I like the hump try hump try rims you put in this video also when is a review of the 1953 the war of the worlds coming out anyway this was a great video I think the Edgar jacobs Martians are more consistent then other martians I really liked this video
For me, the most text accurate version of the Tripods, are from the Great Illustrated Classics. Not the one of the cover, but the illustrations within the book. They have no eyes, no lights, just saucer shapes, with legs and tentacles.
Thanks for this video. I've never heard of this before xd I highly recomend the LXG vol. 2 tripods. The story isn't that interesting, but is very important to the story of the legacy
Truly a very creepy squishy combination to thinking with all those Tin Clocking Tanks from Mars!!! Marvelous! Crazy how Each versión is Developted Conceptualization from such Historical Background Context! If you know what i mean! ☠️👽🛸
I would love a video about the tripods I call tv heads, I do not know much about them but the easiest way to see the ones I an talking about is to look up war of the worlds underfooked part 3, as they are featured in the thumbnail, I am pretty sure they are from a comic adaptation of the war of the worlds.
Oooh yes! I knew exactly what ones you meant as soon as you said 'tv heads' haha. They'll likely be coming relatively soon I think, I made the thumbnail for them a couple of weeks ago.
Takes me a long while to make videos, I was just showing the model I'm working on for that one. ;) Still haven't finished it yet, so it'll be a while more yet.
Yeah I will eventually. :) I've done a few videos about the 2005 film but not specifically a tripod video, I'm kind of saving that one for after I've gotten some of the more obscure tripods out there.
Ooohh iimagine if Jacobs and George Remi (Hergé) did a crossover of War of the Worlds and Tintin?? Probably be a bit too serious but Tintin did go to the Moon haha
I just thought you might want to know that your films never appear in my subscriptions but they do on the main page. It must be problem on TH-cams end.
Требую обзор на триножников из Voice of The Void. Настоятельно рекомендую провести в данной игре как можно больше времени, для того что бы ваше мнение было более точным. “Humptri Dumptri” Written by pubbenny Humptri Dumptri hit like a ram. Humptri Dumptri then went “Ka-Blam!” Humptri Dumptri saw a big ship. Humptri Dumptri exploded when hit. Humptri Dumptri lay in a pit. Humptri Dumptri twitched birds flit. After all man’s devices had failed to slay. Putrefactive bacteria won us the day!
These tripods remind me of a type of fruit juicer. Incidentally I've always perceived the parabolic mirror on the jointed rod, to be a kind of CCTV camera. The heat ray is fired from the fighting machine, which is the "humped shape" that rises from the pit after the hissing droning and the three puffs of green vapour. But that's just me. * Oh and the mirror continues to "wobble" on the rod once the humped shape sinks back into the pit. Well that's both my oars stuck in, I have to charge my telling bone!
