If you're not worried about scraping it with your naked skin or cleaning it, by all means, incorporate this simple application into your home, condo, work office, etc.
It is also used as a basecoat in many schools, police stations, and hospitals.
We apply first a basecoat of usually one inch, applying this same Structo-Lite, then usually a lime finish coat.
Why is it used in many government buildings?
Excellenta question; it's as sound and fireproof as you will find with interior use for a lightweight plaster, as it's volcanic ash.
Remember, look for a born-on date; it's best if it is used within the first 6 months of being made, or the set time can be compromised.

It's tough to find videos about plastering on TH-cam. Lots of stuff regarding drywall and mudding but using veneer plaster is another story. Here in the NE plaster is used often with drywall relegated to the less expensive homes. I've done some plastering in the past and always used a hawk and trowel but recently I watched a video of a guy in Europe apply it with a roller (something he had never tried before) and damn if it didn't work. Walls (in my area) are typically plastered smooth while the ceilings are usually left with a slight texture. Textured anything is a simple apply and walk away where doing smooth finishes is a lot more work. Have you ever tried to apply veneer plaster with a roller? When I finished my basement, I applied plaster with a trowel but left a slightly textured finish and after I painted it, I really liked it. Not good if you are planning to put up wallpaper but looked great with paint.

Another great one my friend. Can you tell me if the joints need taped if using Structolite over drywall? And if you were planning ahead would you use green/blue board instead of white or doesn’t it matter?
I actually like this alot. Especially from a non skilled point of view. My first houses that I built way back in the mid 70’s were all Structolite base with lime finish and the texture you get from plaster cannot be duplicated with any joint compound.
This makes plastered walls a whole new ballgame for me should I decide to build another. Would love to see more vids like this where this has been simplified to a game changer type of design.

In the video I point to a recently applied ceiling in the restaurant, The applicators felt no rain would reach upwards, so they didn't apply a bonding agent, they also didn't expect a hurricane where the rains are blown upwards. I really like Structo-lite. I do historic lime plaster restoration in pre-Civil War homes in New York State. But whenever it comes to overhead plastering on wood lath, I switch to light weight Structo lite. Also if a relatively small area needs to dry fast, I use it. It looks very much like lime sand plaster when done as well complete with blemishes and tone. The fact that you can float/slurry the surface and then finish trowel extra smooth is nice too. I once worked for an architect who promised me Structo lite for the ceiling, and he delivered "Not Exactly Structo Lite" brand. Disappointing.....

    Kirk,
I have a sun room, a lanai, and it’s enclosed--not exposed to rain. It has an exterior grade skip trowel finish as does the rest of the exterior of the house.
    Question:
For the lanai, please tell me what I can do to make this flat
    What can I use?
    Please let me know.
    Spencer

I’ve repaired different depths in sheet rock many times. On the hollow area, apply a bonding agent such as plaster-Weld and add more plaster. I’d recommend 20-minute joint compound to make both surfaces flush. It’s really easy, in fact I have videos showing how to.

    Kirk,
Have you ever used Xypex in the cement mix? It's supposed to react with moisture to continuously fill out cracks in cement. One version comes as an additive to mix in.
Curious if that could be used in a cementitious stucco or that Ekoplast 50.

It doesn't matter what color the sheetrock or drywall is as long as it's prepared properly with an interior bonding agent painted on to the board such as Quikrete or Plaster-weld. Yes there are some boards that don't need bonding agents but that's another story.👨🏻‍🔬

Excellent question its volcanic ash, it's impervious to the elements like moisture, but still should not be applied outside where it can get rained on.Structo-Lite® Basecoat Plaster is USG's lightest and most highly insulated basecoat plaster and is ideal for locations where an aggregate is unavailable.
