  • In this video I introduce my channel and then talk about 2 super-compact, super-lightweight carbon fiber travel tripods:
    Rollei Compact Traveler No.1
    Benro Slim FSL09CN00
    I will tell you what I like, what I don't like, and whether I will keep one of those or none of them and why

    I think Rollei must have updated this. The centre column on mine does go down, so no height issue for me. Great review video.

    They recently updated the rollei carbon and on the one i got it's possible to drop (and reverse) the center collumn. You see the difference as there's less orange on the current model and the padding o nthe legs is different

    Thank you so much for this video , you saved my time and money. Im looking a tripod for a hiking, cycling . I have Manfrotto 055 pro old one. It's good but big ang heavy. I could accept something little heavier to getting better stability, but less then my Manfrotto. Something between 1.2 -1.5 kg any recommendation ? Regards

    I don't know if this is a new version - but the model I bought of exactly the same name DOES have central column lowering down www.amazon.es/gp/product/B01AWCQPYK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Hi there - I have the exact same tripod (compact traveler no1) but in aluminum and can confirm that the center column does indeed drop. I did struggle at first but later got the hang of it (twist) and then thereafter it was much easier to drop. Pls double check and let me know as I’m about to upgrade my tripod for the carbon fiber.

    • @LucaPetraliaPhotography
      @LucaPetraliaPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I already returned it. Based on my experience there's no way of dropping the center column. I tried hard and despite my efforts I couldn't find a way. There is no twisting mechanism to turn

      What seems affordable in the short term can be a waste of money Luca in the long term if it won't do the job. I'm a former news agency photographer who has lugged travel tripods around more countries than I care to remember, and I can assure you I know what I'm talking about.

    • @LucaPetraliaPhotography
      @LucaPetraliaPhotography  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't arguing with you, I believe what you say. However not everyone is willing to invest that amount of money in the tripod. I'm not necessarily talking about professionals, but enthusiast may find the gitzo prices too high for their pockets

      I appreciate Luca that around £600 seems like a lot of money for a hobbyist, but if you consider how much we pay for our cameras and lenses, and that this is a capital piece of equipment that will last a lifetime (although you may upgrade your cameras and lenses)
      I learned many years ago that there's a big difference between the best value for money and the best.

    Tripod reviews are really interesting (at least for me). It seems to be very personal what one reviewer likes another dislikes (and vice versa). There is an other model of the Benro slim carbon TSL08CN00 (which has only 4 leg segments compared to the 5 on the 09 model). However with the ballhead there is a disagreement. One reviewer said it's fine for small and mirrorless cameras other like you really hate this ballhead! I guess you could replace the ballhead wiht another one. But then you'll lose some of the weight advantage of this light weight travel tripod.
    As others have already mentioned Rollei seemed to have changed its compact traveler No.1 ...
    I'm still looking for a light weight travel tripod. (I have the Rollei C5i but this is not nearly as light weight as the compact traveler No.1 or the Benro slim carbon. Interesting for me looks the Rollei CT-5C for it's versatility but it's even heavier than the C5i ...
    For more stability I also own the Rollei Rock Solid Beta Mark II which made an excellent impression on me. However with about 2.2 kg it's no longer light weight! :(
    For wildlife I have the Rollei Rock Solid Alpha XL Mark II in mind with a Benro GH2 gimbal which seems to be an amazing combination.
