Disney XD replaced Toon Disney, Disney Junior replaced Playhouse Disney, and The Hub Network (now known at Discovery Family) replaced Discovery Kids.), there were some artifacts around that time that still made it felt like the 2000s to some extent. I still used a PS2 during the early 2010s, while most other gamers would play on their Wii, Xbox 360, or PS3, which were still 2000s consoles. I also played DS games on my 3DS, as well as my sister's DSi. I would also play games online as well, as flash games still existed back then and were still fairly popular (Remember Super Brawl 2 or Club Penguin?), as well as a good amount of sites still using flash. Also flip-phones were fading out in favor for smartphones, which at the time had a skeuomorphic look to them. Netflix and Hulu were the only two in the streaming wars before others came along (as well as Amazon Instant Video). Everything overall just felt better back then.
If this video feels ancient, just remember that games like GTA 5, The Last of Us, and Skyrim all came out on this console.... you know... the games that have been re-released countless times since.
Now that infinite possibilities of technology have arrived, it seems like nobody is interested in using it. A bit like staring at the library and playing nothing.
Well they came out really late into the consoles life cycle, good attempt at trying to make kids feel old though, if I'm not mistaken the last of us came out in 2013?
I’ll never forget my first night with the ps3. My brother and I pulled an all nighter and tried Project 8, Def Jam icon, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Resistance: Fall of Man and fell in love. Felt like we were living in the future.
What was your favorite game(s)? I have so many ps3 games and have only played maybe 40/250+. Looking to play some fun solo games I might've missed on PS3
@@JihadMeAtHelllo damn mate idk. COD MW2 probably got the most play time out of me but I’ve never actually decided on a favorite. Dead Space 1 and Resistance 1 are definitely contenders but I also think of games like Skate 2, MGS4, Battlefield Bad Company and Resident Evil 5. That generation just felt like the future and every new game that came out impressed and grabbed me. It’s been so long that I honestly can’t think of many stand out titles right now. Just got home and checked my collection in the basement. Little big planet, Guitar Hero World Tour/rockband 1+2, fight night round 3, burnout paradise, rainbow six Vegas 1+2, Mortal Kombat 9, and obviously Skyrim and the last of us are probably all my top games that I’ve owned and played through. God damn what a generation that was
i was 15/16 at the time and it literally feels like just a few years ago, i still consider the game he played (resistance) to be current/new gen, and it is on my list of games to eventually finish. i feel like a huge boomer now. also crazy to think that GTA 5 originally released on this same console.
Sadly none of us here are getting any younger at this point. There’ll be moments in our life that we’ll never get back, but at least we can cherish the memories had in our lives.
That feels so nostalgic in some way, i remember so many memories i had with this. I first played it around 2012 i think, i was 6. Now 10 years later, it hits. Hardly
I still remember when I got my PS3 and man, those were the days. God of War 3, Resistance, Fallout 3, GTA4, Heavenly Sword, Mortal Kombat 9, Red Dead Redemption, Mirror's Edge and Assassin's Creed 1 and 2, just to name a few. I'm telling you, never have I ever had so much joy as during those days.
Adio footwear, and one of most refined and solid eras in video gaming. Just two small examples of how 2000s really was the peak of western culture. So many things from then have had a lasting impact, I think it'll always be 2006 in my mind. RIP the good ole days.
Thank you TH-cam for actually recommending something that I want to see even if it’s 16yr later. This is amazing and this is great intro for the time even today. This has so much nostalgia power I was just froze .
The fact that he booted up Resistance Fall of Man ❤️ That was the first game I played on PS3, Christmas Day '06, my dad tricked me into believing "Japan stopped shipping PS3's over buddy so nobody's going to able to get them!" I bought it hook line and sinker as a 7yo kid, so when I opened that up I shit myself harder than almost any other Christmas, then I opened up Resistance/Madden & NCAA '07/Uncharted/Godfather Don's Edition/COD 3 & COD 4 MW, it's mind boggling to look back and see how fan-fucking-tastic games were 😖
@gaelenski_ Literally every single game I listed came out that year 🗿 Edit: Other than COD 4 MW which came out in 2007, so I just simply confused when I got that game.
Ahhhh the memories of 2006, the days when Nintendo Wii, PS3, and Xbox 360 were out and played for the first time ever. I was in 4th grade when these consoles came out, while being 6 years old when the sixth generation came out. The 7th generation would most likely be the last generation that I ever bought consoles on, before I moved on to PC gaming in the 2010s up into today.
Everything from the Adio shoes to the of the year Jaguar, to the Flat screen with an Xbox 360, only to go on and buy a new release date ps3, this man was and probably still is living like a king
everything he had (besides the PS3) was reasonably priced at the time, not like now i forget the exact prices, but i was looking at that same jaguar for my first car around 06 and i remember 2-5 year old ones being very affordable. meanwhile today it seems like a used toyota that is not 25 years old will start at 20k, and i bet a 2-5 year old jaguar costs a fortune now.
If a game is in the drive it will automatically boot the game up when the power is turned on. To get to the XMB, all you need to do is hit the PS button in the middle of the controller and chose to end the game. If the drive is empty, the system goes to the XMB. When you insert a game disc, you need to highlight it and select it before the game will run.
I dont know if he is aware but this guy is so lucky he experienced something like this. The video reminds me of my poverty days back then. My family basically couldnt even afford ps1 let alone something like new coming out as ps3, I was always watching my friends playing on computers and consoles and envying them. Whenever a new console or a pc part came out, I wanted to buy them so much but never was able to do it. Now I can get whatever I want but now there is little excitement/fun compared to back then. 2000's definitely had a different aurora.
So beautiful! when i was a kid i dreamed with buy this model of ps3, finally with the pass of the years my parents gifted me the slim version. it was beautiful years of fun with friends, always grateful of my parents :')
Seeing this video filled me with so much nostalgia and I didn't even own a PS3 growing up (I had a 360). All my friends had one though and I remember having lots of fun playing Mod Nation Racers and LBP. :)

Back when new game consoles felt like a real upgrade and not just an SSD swap.
Best recommendation and 2006 upload, god I miss those times
Back in days ,when you could buy new PlayStation in the stores
nah you still couldnt get them for a long time after launch... the only reason they stagger the launches now is to build massive hype for higher sales
nobody fighting to get in the door
If this video feels ancient, just remember that games like GTA 5, The Last of Us, and Skyrim all came out on this console.... you know... the games that have been re-released countless times since.
i'd argue that is less emblematic of how it wasn't that long ago and more emblematic of the greed and laziness of the AAA games industry these days.
Also the fact that it was already several years old by the time all those came out
Now that infinite possibilities of technology have arrived, it seems like nobody is interested in using it. A bit like staring at the library and playing nothing.
gta 5 and skyrim came out like several years later and still played just fine
Well they came out really late into the consoles life cycle, good attempt at trying to make kids feel old though, if I'm not mistaken the last of us came out in 2013?
17 years? This hits hard.
It’s hard to imagine a glossy shiny ps3 nowadays to me. I can only imagine how many scratches that console will have had acquired by now
Damn man, nice setup.
Huh what
@@waterman.9056 lol it was a nice setup for the time
makes me miss the 2000s... lol
@@Agos226 same here man lol
Under a million views almost 18 years later?! This is an absolute gem this should have way more views!
I’ll never forget my first night with the ps3. My brother and I pulled an all nighter and tried Project 8, Def Jam icon, Ninja Gaiden Sigma and Resistance: Fall of Man and fell in love. Felt like we were living in the future.
Your first night with PS3?? Sounds SUS to me
@@zeddmikebro you're the kind of person to call every little thing sus
God damn what a generation that was
Mine was Red Dead Redemption. I pumped 100+ hours into that game.
It’s insane how time flies. I was 4 years old when this video came out and now I’m already in my 20s.
I was 2 months old lol
i was 15/16 at the time and it literally feels like just a few years ago, i still consider the game he played (resistance) to be current/new gen, and it is on my list of games to eventually finish.
i feel like a huge boomer now.
also crazy to think that GTA 5 originally released on this same console.
Sadly none of us here are getting any younger at this point. There’ll be moments in our life that we’ll never get back, but at least we can cherish the memories had in our lives.
I was 12, man... I wish I could go back and play Metal Gear Solid 4 and Little Big Planet for the first time again! 😢
@@crazedlunatic43 you are so cringe my guy.
That feels so nostalgic in some way, i remember so many memories i had with this. I first played it around 2012 i think, i was 6. Now 10 years later, it hits. Hardly
I was 14 in 2012 bro. 6 in 2004. I was playing game cube OG xbox for my 7th bday 2005. Which I still have
@@flint9889 ok?
I wish to feel this feeling again.
I'm telling you, never have I ever had so much joy as during those days.
yes god of war 3 blew my mind, i still think its the best one in the series.
What about Ratchet and Clank or Little Big Planet?
@@xboxed7202 Did not play Ratchet and Clank until much later, but Little Big Planet as well. My dude, you're so right, how could I forget about it?!
That sam raimi spiderman text 🔥
Imagine this guys still upload till nowdays maybe he will become one of the best content creator in this year.
His last upload was 13 years ago
TH-cam is a godam timetravel machine. I was only 2 years when this video came out but godam do I get nostalgia for stuff I never got to experience.
I was like 11 or 12 when TH-cam came out. It's crazy looking back. Went by fast
I’m very nostalgic for that times that I never lived
when were you born
@@joshcramer3578 probably 2010 xD
I was in high school In 06 you prolly young enough to be my kid😂😂
@@B1FFCO His profile says enough, bro has a teddy bear 😅😂
I was 4 in 06
Seeing a 16 year old recommended TH-cam video in the wild is rare. Needs to happen more often. This was awesome.
This is pure nostalgia, happened to me again recently with the ps5. Good times
The fact that he booted up Resistance Fall of Man ❤️ That was the first game I played on PS3, Christmas Day '06, my dad tricked me into believing "Japan stopped shipping PS3's over buddy so nobody's going to able to get them!" I bought it hook line and sinker as a 7yo kid, so when I opened that up I shit myself harder than almost any other Christmas, then I opened up Resistance/Madden & NCAA '07/Uncharted/Godfather Don's Edition/COD 3 & COD 4 MW, it's mind boggling to look back and see how fan-fucking-tastic games were 😖
Half those games weren’t even out Xmas 2006
@@gaelenski_ this is a psy op
@gaelenski_ Literally every single game I listed came out that year 🗿
Edit: Other than COD 4 MW which came out in 2007, so I just simply confused when I got that game.
@@CommanderLongJohn Might want to recheck ‘🗿’
@gaelenski_ There's nothing to check rtard lmao, every single game listed other than MW came out in 2006
Almost 20 years later and this makes me smile nostalgically.
Everything from the Adio shoes to the of the year Jaguar, to the Flat screen with an Xbox 360, only to go on and buy a new release date ps3, this man was and probably still is living like a king
everything he had (besides the PS3) was reasonably priced at the time, not like now
i forget the exact prices, but i was looking at that same jaguar for my first car around 06 and i remember 2-5 year old ones being very affordable.
meanwhile today it seems like a used toyota that is not 25 years old will start at 20k, and i bet a 2-5 year old jaguar costs a fortune now.
Something so nostalgic and meta about hearing the FF1 nes overworld theme being used in a 2006 PS3 launch video. It’s like two layers of classic!
Whew! That's good. You had me worried there for a sec. ;-)
Are you still alive
@@sva9629 wow 😂🤣
That’s a massive tv for 2006
Guy should have gone and bought a flat screen and a PS5. Gosh I tell yeah, buying all that old junk🙄
Glad I found this gem, really does give back the nostalgia
Little did he know that he would be getting the best games of that generation: GTA 5, The Last of Us, Far Cry 3, etc
And even backwards compatibility.
*getting the YLoD
@@Alexander-477 Still beats the RROD due to higher fail rate, but that's still a good point.
@@Abel-Alvareznot true as it was fixed and only affected basically the first gen release
TLOU is trash, Far Cry 3 is multiplat, and GTA5 without mods is meh
If a game is in the drive it will automatically boot the game up when the power is turned on. To get to the XMB, all you need to do is hit the PS button in the middle of the controller and chose to end the game. If the drive is empty, the system goes to the XMB. When you insert a game disc, you need to highlight it and select it before the game will run.
Thanks for the info!

Thanks for the info bro, can't wait for mw2 to come out
@Clan McCloud
pro tip you can turn off disc auto start in the system settings!
Remember when Resistance had the most badass graphics I've seen in a game.
Amazing tv for 2006!
The final decade to be broadcast in SD
17 years later we have the ps5 slim now
The memories!
2006 was one heck of a year
Thanks, Raiden. I'm happy with it. :-)
Good for you buddy
We are not very happy with the ps5 pro 😮💨
The best era for PlayStation
I loved the OG PS3. Had the Spider-Man font “PlayStation 3” was my favorite part of the aesthetic
I miss the Resistance games
My overriding memory of the first day of using my PS3 is how insanely long it took to update and then set up PSN. Even by the PS5, I was still half-expecting to be waiting all day to actually be able to use the thing.
Damn bro you had a very impressive multimedia set up.
the ps3 is the future
Bro this is from 2006
Holy cow we’re old
Ahhh the good old days😭 my first PlayStation game was Mirrors Edge that game changed my life forever
I’m glad the algorithm brought me here

PlayStation 3 is going to be 20 years old in 3 years which is going to make it a retro console.
