I have the similar experience like him. Last summer vacation I went cleaning the beach at 4 a.m. Even though I was tired at first, I felt refreshed after cleaning the beach. It's a memorable experience.

I have never in my 28 years of living thrown anything on the ground, it's just something unimaginable for me to do. And I am not bragging, I'm just thinking that this is one of the main basics which parents are aught to to teach their children. So if this is missing in parenting culture in some countries than motivating and educating kids is really the most efficient solution to the problem and to that what is causing it. Fellow parents, please engage your kids in anything even cleaning your apartment or house and talk to them about the nature and environment. This is really enough to form a clear and conscious mindset which then will be passed on by them to their children and so on.
Me too, I remember throwing a trash on the street ONCE when I was a kid, just because I was 8 years old and I wanted to do something, idk, rebellious. I felt shit after this xD and never did it again.
Yeah me neither that's why it's so discouraging to find out that there are still places where they take all the garbage people carefully threw into trash bin and dump it into ocean.
But it's not just throwing trash that's at fault here. If course it's there and I'm not denying the fact but a lot of times trash ends up on beaches from the ocean and trash ending up in the ocean is because many governments around the world dump their trash in the oceans which not only completely devastate marine life but also makes its way to beaches much like what happened here. That coupled with the culture of throwing trash around compounded into what we saw on this beach. Hope all people and subsequently, the governments as well recognise this issue and bring reforms in waste management. Fingers crossed.
I get you and I dont throw anything either but it is not just about what you throw but the garbage we produce that end up in the oceans and even if you recycle it is rare for it to actually get recycles.

There’s a lot of missing the point here. Whilst what he has done is amazing and I commend him for leading the initiative. We don’t need more people to pick up the plastic....We need to stop generating the plastic. All of that plastic is now somewhere else more convenient but it is still there. Until we stop making the problem worse the issue remains

@@sharvey6146 I NEVER buy plastic bottles. All my life (42 years now) I have been buying glass bottles and carried them happily over many steps. A year ago I decided that even that is a waste and just drink the water from the faucet. But regarding milk and other food: Yes, we buy only glass unless it is sold out. And of course I never use anything "to go". Should be named cofffee "to pollute" instead.
They've not missed the point. These initiatives are very important, because plastic production is not just going to stop from one day to the next. While we gear down plastic production and consumption, we need these cleaning initiatives. As we have plainly seen our global governments dont give a hoot about Earth or cleaning up their mess.
Sadly this pandemic has given mass polluters an excuse to increase their plastic productions because they claim we need more single use items due to hygiene. It had taken decades for the plastic reduction legislations and implementations to take effect, and with one global campaign, it stopped, and we are set back very far. The thing is that we can use non plastic single use uts too. It most certainly does not have to be plastic.
I think you're missing the point as well. Plastic is just part of the problem. Litter is part of the problem.
Solving that problem is a society issue. We live in a society in many countries where littering isn't considered bad. Take Japan, a country where they use a ridiculous amount of packaging. But it isn't much of a problem because littering is considered bad by their society. They also use recycling and are quite strict in ensuring everyone complies.

Sylvain C downcycling is not the same as recycling my friend. Plastic will always ultimately be trash.
Glass and metal can be completely recycled and reused, wood is bio degradable and is a regrowing good.
Plastic is only the answer to what we need to stop using period.

I respect this man immensely for his commitment, but this trash is either going into landfill or being burned. That way it's either moving the problem out of sight or releasing an unimaginable pollutant influx into the atmosphere... This problem needs to be tackled at the source, not just at the consequence.
You got to start somewhere and that's exactly what this guy did. Now like you said it's time to tackle the next problem and that's what these types of people end up creating 👌
@@branpod not at all what I'm saying, I'm highlighting that this is simply either moving the problem or contributing to another. This work is highly commendable but my point is that this sort of thing should never have to happen in the first place, because once it does happen it is much harder to deal with responsibly and in a manner that is beneficial rather than superficial.

However, where was all the trash dumped ? did any get recycled, or just thrown in a pit so toxins can build up underground and get in the watertable ?
That's the problem we have, needing to find sustainable ways to recycle plastics, and force everyone to use only plastics that can be reused.
There is a different, much detailed documentary on his work on cleaning of Versova beach (here is one link but most of the spoken part is in Hindi -- th-cam.com/video/t0ka45g4Fyc/w-d-xo.html).
In that it was explained how the dump was processed after removal from beach. Most goes for recycling - but unfortunately a significant chunk still needs to be destroyed/burnt etc because that plastic/dump is not-recyclable or toxic now.
I know that is not the best solution - but it is still better than letting it rot next to marine life.

I think that one of the most sustainable ways to deal with trash is an incinerator that converts the heat into thermal energy. What are y’all’s thoughts? I think that this would be great for third world countries like India, Indonesia to use this method because of all the trash they produce and it would be a very good way to get people cheap electricity.

The first and foremost thing to be done is stop making and using plastics that are completely unnecessary, like 'Disposable' plastic bags and cutlery and random everyday items that are made for 'convenience'
