Than k you for all the hard work you do to help fight plastic pollution. There are so many countries that don't have a waste disposal system set up or recycling services. Bringing this matter to their attention surely will help. The companies that produce this plastic need to step up and help fix this problem too.

    • @4Ocean
      @4Ocean  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

The best way to create change is through individual action to reduce your use of single use plastics, raising awareness within your social circle and voting with your wallet to opt for sustainable alternatives at every opportunity. We all have the ability to shift the production habits of big brands by showing them there is demand for sustainable products.

@@4Ocean You advocate for the reduction of single use plastic, but 99% of ALL products come to shelves in PLASTIC. Where do you propose people buy their products that do not come in plastic. Meat...all wrapped in plastic, cleaning supplies, bottled water, soft drinks....plastic bottles, condiments like ketchup, mustard, mayo....all come in plastic bottles. It appears that CORPORATIONS that manufacture and prepare their products should be your target for lobbying different means of bottling and wrapping their products. When meat was wrapped in paper, condiments, soft drinks, and canned food came in glass bottles, and paper bags were used in grocery stores, the environment was much cleaner. Trees are a sustainable source.

On the other hand, it's production companies packaging choices to the public; passing on responsibility.
1st World countries predominantly have gov provided sanitation.
I have an organic and recycle bin, but my government still sends it all to the same processing.
Underdeveloped governments also put responsibility on the consumer. Poor consumers have less ability to manage what it takes for proper composting as they often work all day for a few dollars.
It's just good to keep both sides of the coin in mind.

How can the local people be responsible if there is no official garbage disposal system? I saw that in rural areas in Cambodia where there simply is no garbage trucks etc. People are forced to eather live in their trash, throw it into the water or burn it (mostly they do the latter).

Start small on inclusion to events, just twice a year (with suggestions to reduce waste planned), then grow to 4 times, then monthly. Use event for dialogue to occur/first hand account to form/follow-up on past actions.

@4Ocean I enjoy supporting your organization, I know it's difficult, and I know sometimes I don't do enough on my part, but I will endeavor to always keep trying to improve in my efforts. As others have stated, I think in extreme cases, as you hilighted in Javi, maybe you should have a machine built that actually digs the waste onto a conveyor that separates the trash from the earth/sand, and makes it easier to handle bagging the plastics and garbage at a quicker pace than doing it ALL by hand. Just a thought.

Thank you to every one that does this job. Incredible work ethic with a positive attitude.
Curious, if 4Oceans work or show the work done to the local governments?
P.S. Dear 4Oceans management, as a bottom of the totem pole worker, to watch you working with individual teams, side by side, learning to speak local dialect (even if wrong country), is so heart-filling! I've worked for ppl that I wish knew or remembered what the job was like. Good job and thank you!

Thanks for your efforts to remove such crazy amounts of plastic in Java. Such a shame that humans have caused this plastic crisis for all of our ecosystems. 4 Oceans should consider replacing their plastic snap back hats and plastic polyester clothing and swag with more sustainable compostable options such as organic cotton and or hemp clothing and hats with soy based imprinting. Please represent your cause on all levels. Please look up zero waste living and the impact of polyester clothing if you are concerned about plastic pollution. We can all make a difference choosing more sustainable and zero waste options in all areas of our lives. Our future depends on us waking up to this crisis.

The best way to create change is through individual action to reduce your use of single use plastics, raising awareness within your social circle and voting with your wallet to opt for sustainable alternatives at every opportunity. We all have the ability to shift the production habits of big brands by showing them there is demand for sustainable products.

In Poland we also have local problems with garbage in rivers, I try to do something about it but unfortunately the authorities do not respond to letters. I clean up in my area myself but unfortunately it is not enough. I am losing faith because what can you do yourself when others treat it as stupidity.

It’s amazing when surfing in Indonesia about how much plastic crap is in the sea or on the beaches. At times it gets swept up into a pile but usually not higher than the high tide line so usually within a day it’s washed back out again.

When my daughter was around 2 we watched a lot of fishy documentaries. I think I told her the plastic kills the fish that's why you don't leave anything. Sometimes she would see a bag and start running saying the dishes are going to die. I always had to get them. She did it anytime she was outside. We like animal docs . That's how taught her.
