  • This plastic valve cover has some of the PCV valve built in. Today we take that valve cover apart, look at the pathways of the PCV and oil separator. We also test using a smoke machine to diagnose the failure. This is also a great excuse to play around with my smoke machine LOL VAPE BRO!

    This was a quick video to learn a little more about the BPY valve cover, and to test out a smoke machine. I hope you dig it, and learned something too. I know I did. :)

      My 98 Jetta has a separate pcv valve from the cover and is much easier to replace. Did VW ever explain the purpose of integrating the pcv valve with a plastic valve cover, other than to sell us more parts?

    Cool video. We will be seeing more valve cover problems as this engine ages. The evolution of vag's turbo four pcv system is interesting. I get why they did this design and now the pcv/oil separator is easy to maintain. Parts are relatively expensive but it is a simpler design.

    Hi Charles I have replace 2 valve covers on b7 Audi with the 2.0 L Turbo engine the engine was sucking oil from the valve cover and most of the oil was trapped into the intercooler system and it did increased the oil consumption but did not affect the engine much and no check engine.

    I love my Toyota PCV system. It's just a cast aluminum valve cover with the PCV valve being just a glorified check valve and a piece of rubber tubing that feeds back into the intake manifold.

    I had delamination on my bpy which caused the p0455 code to pop my cel it was very confusing trying to find the fault changed my gas cap n80 smoke tested it wasn't until a friend told me the cover could be at fault and it was the plastic actually was raised near the valve intake ports

    I dont have any fault codes, but suspect a valve cover issue, my car smokes when driving, (not all the time) only when cars under load,
    If im on full boost, there isnt any smoke, but ad soon as i let off the gas, a big plume of smoke appears ( covers the whole street) do you have any info on this?

    I saw the lines you mention, that conects rear and front with the pcv system, now, if we install the pcv delete, the plate really stop the air flow on the line that connects to the turbo hose, it supposed to be a suction function i tried to re create that suction on my cover but it doesn’t work with the pcv delete, is it ok??? Or whats wrong, ??? I supose when the pcv valve is the original way, it will suction on the diaphragm on the pcv right? I hope you understand what i’m trying to sag

      If you're going back far enough for metal valve covers then the gaskets were probably cork or paper and useless.

    I have a 2007 Volkswagen GTI and I was wondering how tight should I make the head bolts I keep seeing online that there’s lots of different foot-pounds to put it to and I’m not sure which one is correct because I don’t want to snap off one of those bolts inside the block and have to chase it down and get it out of there so could you please let me know what foot pound torque spec I should give it to

    hello i have a mk5 gti, and it run very bad at idle, when i remove the pipe from pcv to the intake manifold, and i block the hole in the intake, the car runs very smooth at idle. do you think my pcv is bad or the valve cover? i bought a new pcv and the car runs still bad. Does pcv delete will solve my problem?

    Just curious anyone on here or humblemechanic know wat exactly is the difference between smoke pro total tech vs the new readysmoke both by redline ? Is it just cost difference? Is the smoke pro more longer lasting? If anyone knows the main difference other than size n price difference more like tech specifications etc... redline doesn’t have anything on their website explaining difference other than price

    • @HumbleMechanic
      @HumbleMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. I’d recommend giving them a buzz. They are super awesome folks and would be happy to help you out.
      I do know they have a low pressure model and higher pressure one for boost leaks

      @redlinedetection 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Not sure if you've had your question answered already, but if not: the Total Tech is built to be a lifetime tool, perfect for a harsh shop environment, and it's field serviceable. It comes with a 2-year warranty and our Easy Intake block off bladder. The ReadySmoke is a more affordable option and is more compact, ideal for an individual technician who wants their own personal machine, and it comes with a 1-year warranty. Let us know if you have any other questions!

    I have an after market catch can (about to get rid of it, only causes issues) i went to clean it out the other day and after i got a knocking noise coming out of the cold air intake filter. Weird thing is that it will go away if I pinched off either of the catch can hoses. so is it possible the valve cover has an internal failure causing this?
    Already ordered a PCV delete plate because trying to find where all the pcv hoses go and everything to go back to stock seems like a headache i do not feel like dealing with when i have other issues to address and am soon about to just tear the whole car down and clean up for track use

    FSI valve cover fails causing Oil to leak though and oil consumption issue. VC fails around 15k, and fails due high boost. Oil consumption issue (1 qt/500 miles) can be resolved by changing valve cover. Vw needs to recall.

    So I'm blowing tons of smoke under load with a small rattle I was thinking it's this valve cover cause I swapped the pcv and hoses but that rattle made me think the turbo is a possibility but it only under load when in gear pull up not if I rev in neutral or in between gears

    • @HumbleMechanic
      @HumbleMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s possible. Turbo failure is not crazy common but happens. Any check engine light?

    Any recommendations for a smoke machine that is not $700? Seems like its either a paint can with tubes or big money. Thanks

    • @HumbleMechanic
      @HumbleMechanic  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this one here is not really a DIYer tool, it’s a piece of diagnostic equipment.
      I’d probably just make my own if I wanted something more affordable.

    • @phiksit
      @phiksit 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this case you could probably just blow some low pressure air through it and check for leaks with soap suds.
