There is no conventional set of namecalling in Turkish culture. Like most things in Turkish culture, it's a bit of a mish mash of various neigbouring cultures with the nomadic core of Turkic tribes in the centre. Nomadjc Turks usually tended to name people with basic strenghth inspiring names, mainly animals or names from nature. Giray, ögeday, Altay, Gökay, Alp and such.(Usually, turkic originated names are easy to pronounce and simple) Especially in men, Moon is a very common theme. Then comes the Persian and Arabic names. Persians are usually Firuze, Firuz, Cemil, Cemile, and arabic ones are common enough, most of them are bastardised versions of the oriignal name. Mehmet instead of Mohammed for example. A lot of military titles both turkic and iranian. Serdar, Tolga, Fatih etc. And in younger generations, the infamous era of "Elit kesimin çocuklara koyduğu sikimsonik isimler" where there are a lot of weird names came out. Su(water), toprak, berk(old but newly popular), Berkecan, Sudenaz and such. I usually like Turkish names and the old Ottoman and Seljuk names of mixed Iranian and Turkish. Like Mihrimah(girl name, means Sun and Moon), Neslihan(Girl name, means Royal Blooded), Mahpeyker(Girl name, means She who is of Moon) Geez we like Moon and Sky in Turkish culture.
Yes i looked it up. I didnt know this flower is called snowdrop in english. I love this flower. It always brings joy in spring. Its the first flower. We Turks were once shamanist like Amerindians. This is the reason why we have names with meaning
Ehehe my brother's name is İlkay :) FirstMoon, because he was born in 1 of January :D mine is Gamze, it means dimple on his or her cheek when someone smiles.
These names come from ancient Turkic Shamanic culture
Tıpkı Amerikan yerlileri gibi.
@@valkyr52 evet doğru , Avrupalılara tuhaf gelir mesela bu tür isimler
Yağmur is unisex actaully, for example, Yağmur is the name of the guitarist guy of the Turkish Rock group “maNga”
Cansu is a nature-themed name too and lovely :)

The reason of the name Deniz became popular at these years is Deniz Gezmiş. He got love from all kinda people at these years.
Also Volkan (Volcano) and Yaprak (Leaf) are nature themed names and they're fairly common.
_I love you so much Chelsea_ ❤️😘

lmao thanks
thanks for this video! I really REALLY love the name Ilkay. It sounds so beautiful.
Like Mihrimah(girl name, means Sun and Moon), Neslihan(Girl name, means Royal Blooded), Mahpeyker(Girl name, means She who is of Moon)
Geez we like Moon and Sky in Turkish culture.
My name is Koray and it mean ember-moon :D
Also there are other nature names: Toprak(Earth) Su(water) Alev(fire)
Kardelen ❤ it is another one. Snowdrop
What is a snowdrop? Snowflake?
@@RosequartzDivination Snowdrop is a flower.
@@RosequartzDivination You can look it up on Google.. :) and let me know your opinions :))) it is my name :)
Yes i looked it up. I didnt know this flower is called snowdrop in english. I love this flower. It always brings joy in spring. Its the first flower. In my country its called "little bell" and in croatian language "hanging old woman". Wich makes me realise that in Balkan we give flowers names from other things. We kinda do the opposite of Turks.
All names are good without last
Tuba is a girl name ( a tree is in paradise)
Defne is a kind of trees .
Çağla too.
Duman is the band's name. I don't think that is for humans
It's a common name for grey cats.
It actually is also a name pof human beings 😂

My name is hazan and it means autmn.. ıts not very common actually and people mostly use sonbahar instead of hazan to say autumn in daily conversations... but in poetries and songs and other stuff Hazan is more used bc it has more romantic or emotional vibes ( i guess)
. (Sorry for my bad eng btw)
yalnız duman ismi insanlar için de kullanılıyor. benim dayımın adı duman ve yani o zamanlar duman diye müzik grubu falan yoktu
Duman !!! common, It suits for dogs or cats :)
Erkekler için "Ateş" ismi de kullanılıyor.
Benim iki kızım var biri Deniz ,diğeri Doğa. Yegenlerimin isimleri de biri hariç hep doğa temalı. Rüzgar, Ada, Eylül, Ege. Ailecek Doğa severiz😀
Rüzgar is my favorite name. I hate to correct you, but you pronounce it a little bit wrong where it matters the most, the second syllable . It sounds great and it's meaning is also beautiful.
Hey you missed my name 😞: “Yıldız”
I guess Yıldız ⭐️is a name given more than Güneş 🌞 ... maybe 🤔
My name is Doğa, it means Nature itself and I'm from Izmir💜💜
Chelsea ilkay is unisex we used o girl and boys names

Aysima- Moonface (aura)
Simay sparkling moon
Aylin
Tulay - The light around the moon
Tulin -
Also
Toprak- soil earth
Damla - Drop
Cinar - oak
Nefes - breath
Hope you find the perfect one for your babyboy or -girl

Damla = Drop -Girl
Ateş=Fire - Boy
Berrak =Cristal clear -Girl
Yaprak=Leaf -Girl
Sema=Sky -Girl
Doruk=Climax ,peak - male
Çağlayan=Falls - male
And hundreds of names with "gün" ( sun) and "ay" (moon)..
Rüzgar and Doğa are also unisex names by the way. They don't belong to a certain gender
Ufuk = Horizon (boy name)
Ufuk means actually 'horizon' and for english speakers it goes to ' a very wrong ' direction

Hi; I see your struggle with “ğ” consonant, I’d want to give you a fonetic tip about “ğ”. There is a rule called diphtongue which means the sound isn’t pronounced. “Ğ” sound is included in this rule. Simply pronounciation of the words are like this: Doğa > do:a, ağaç > a:aç, yağmur > ya:mur
