You should really check out KD Lang’s duet with Roy Orbison, where they sing his classic song “Crying”. Their voices together are incredible.
She also did Crying at the tribute to Roy at the Universal Ampitheatre 2/4/90, it really shows how strong her voice is.

One of the purest voices, her version of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” is magic. I prefer her with less production and backup singing for this reason.

The Italian sound you’re referring to is coming from the accordion dominating the melody. She is a Canadian born Country and Pop labeled singer/songwriter. This was her biggest commercial hit during the MTV/VH1 era programs on TV.

There's another song she does, Miss Chatelaine, that's also piercingly beautiful. It's not as well known as her most famous songs, but it should be.

I saw KD Lang at a winter carnival in our town over 35 years ago, Spirit of the West opened for her. I bought both of their homemade cassettes after the show and nearly wore them out.
KD has one of the purest voices you’ll ever hear. She can sing ANYTHING and it sounds good.

One of my brothers and I watched kdLang perform in San Antonio, Texas. Four months later, my brother passed away. Cherished memories of kdLang and times spent with my brother. 🙏🏼💕🙏🏼

So glad you got to KD Lang finally. She is amazing. You really should check out Hallelujah…even Leonard Cohen said hers was the best cover he’d heard and how he’d always envisioned it. I think the best version is the one at the Juno Awards in Winnipeg. Not the Olympics version that most will cite. Just my 2 cents. She practically acts it out. It’s phenomenal. I watch it at least once a month, lol.

Nice catch on the Accordion music that is often in Italian music, but in this case it is a type accordion that was known as a "Squeezebox" but is called a Tarrentela Neopolatana (or something like that, I probably spelled it wrong). Think how a Violin is called a Fiddle in folk and country music. It also made it into allot of late 80's to early 90's slower more haunting or emotional songs, but this was one of the first to use it in a huge hit.
BTW she is Canadian and was a huge hit and was one of the first Country Music Artists to come out of the closet publicly and probably lost millions doing so, but supposedly did not regret it.

I remember when she hit the scene along the same time Lyle Lovett did. They both defied being labeled. Their musical range included a very wide range of music genres. I don't think the music industry knew quite what to do with either of them.

KD Lang is from Alberta Canada and is a Canadian treasure. Her career is prolific. She was one of the first people to come out as a lesbian and this song was about her bravery and her constant craving.... to be herself and to be authentic - thank you for reviewing this one. I'm an Albertan girl living in a Southern California world and this song from the 1980's brought back so many beautiful emotions and feelings.

One of the finest voices in music. Her entire catalog is an evolution in style and skill as she shifts genres throughout from cowpunk to pop to straight up jazz and more. I've seen her live a half dozen times throughout her career and she just keeps getting impossibly better. You'd enjoy exploring her music.

KD Lang has probably not had as big of a career as she could have, if she wasn't true to herself. She publicly acknowledged being gay in the early '90s, when no one was doing that. I think it really hurt her in the United States.

I have every one of her albums. Her voice is incredible and her choice of songs is so fulfilling to the ear. One of the best musicians of our time. I have many favorites but the top two for me are “Love Is Everything” and her song “Surrender” for the James Bond film “Tomorrow Never Dies.”
