Nice idea leave apple in a ring shape. Try using Gala, or Fuji apples they are very sweet so the low suger batter would pair good. I use them for Dutch apple pies OMG REALLY SWEET AND RICH WITH homemade Carmel drizzled onto a slice with vinnila ice cream... yum. I have that same apple core peel tool, it saves a ton of time and they dont cost a lot of money.

In the Netherlands we eat these on New years eve, try dipping the apples in cinnamon sugar before dipping them into the batter. And after baking dust them with powderd suger, that's how we in the Netherlands eat them, yummi
Hi Natasha, I’m so thrilled I came across this recipe. My mom used to make similar to this recipe but I lost it. I remember hers she put in sour cream in her batter. I’d like to make these ahead before I have company, could I make two days before and store them? Or weeks before and freeze them? How would you store them. Thanks love your recipes reminds me of when I was young girl. Lots of memories thank you.
I haven’t tested this as a make-ahead batter, but I think it would work to cover and refrigerate ahead of time. It may not be quite as fluffy since you might lose the puffiness of the egg white.

I wouldn't call these fritters. I would call these apple doughnuts. When I think of fritters,, I think of something that is lumpy and quite rustic in nature. But, on another note, these videos are so much fun to watch!

Speaking of kids grabbing when you're not looking looking, my son was about 2 years old when I was shucking oysters (our family loves oysters on the half shell). Occasionally I'd see a hand come over the kitchen counter and a shell would disappear. I'd look down to see a big smile and jaws chewing away.

I love that they are not gigantic. Because these are dangerous! My dad used to make cinnamon-sugar donuts. They were so delicious but since we are all older, he stopped making them. They are definitely a treat.
