Thanks now I know mine isn't the only crazy lorikeet. We have both rainbows and scaley breasted lorries bought from a breeder but it's the scaley that I found in the park without tail feathers that just loves to play wrestle with me. He has long since regrown his tail and flies perfectly but when we are outside he chooses not to. He'll fly inside the house whenever I walk away from him. I can't even make a cuppa or go to the toilet without him joining me. I love him to bits and he loves me too.
I'm wiping my eyes laughing - the music is perfect for silly bird wrestling! It could be a TV show, "Tonight on Silly Bird Wrestling!" You have a fabulous deck, too! I love these videos of yours - keep posting!
My lori loves to wrestle rolled up socks. She's a riot. She hisses at them like a cat and puffs up steping back and forth like she's challenging them to fight back.
+antstorm Lorikeets do fight for dominance, but this video is definitely NOT an example of fighting behavior. This is a mated pair at play who have been visiting me for some years. Note the way they move happily away in unison at the end of their tussle. True lorikeet fights are marked by ruffled plumage to make themselves appear bigger, a LOT of noise, and often a cloud of flying feathers!
I have a caique too, and I know exactly what you mean! Except mine is way more vicious than these cuties; mine hops around and plots attacks on your hands and feet when you're least expecting it! I love to watch birdies play with each other; it gives so much insight on the way my little caique plays.
@holmsatlarge Of all my feathered visitors, the lorys are my favorite. They are very social creatures, and seem to really enjoy interaction with people. Sometimes I get 40 or 50 all at once and the bickering. playing and screeching reminds me of a kids picnic. And I never cease to be amazed at their truly extraordinary coloring!
I remember the baby lorikeet I found with a broken wing. Took him in and cared for him. We became close companions, he loved to climb up on me and nibble on my ear lobe. He lived in a big cage up near where I found him on an apricot tree. I left the door open for him so he can climb around the tree but he was never able to fly. He'd jump from branch to branch eating the fruits. Then one day I went outside to play with him and I saw him cuddling up with a female parrot, more to come
mine does the exact same thing.. he chases toes and loves to lay on his back and get a belly rub. feisty little thing can sometimes attack strangers in the house and when he hates another bird, he hates em for life and will do anything to pluck their feathers. overall he's the best and most fun bird we have.. always entertaining himself and ppl around him with his crazy acts.
This vid was taken in Bayview, south end of Pittwater, Sydney. I reviewed the original vid carefully and I think what you are seeing is ruffled feathers where they are nipping each other in play. There is one lori who visits me with an odd deformity, it has one of its legs and claw in the middle of its back! It hops around and otherwise seems to function perfectly well.
@Beanick Watching your videos is a constant delight for me! I am a real bird lover and have been all my life. I was always trying to save sick baby birds when I was a little girl. I still love to watch them. I have a bird feeder in my front garden. Birds make the world a happier place!
Roger Miller perfect for this he had so much humour in his music. Have watched it so many times and grand kids think its hilarious even my budgie gets a kick out of it Excellent download.
Thankyou Chuckabutty for your nice comment. Isn't it wonderful that people get such joy from these creatures simply playing. But it is a kind of slapstick comedy which is pretty much universal humour which crosses cultures. I wonder if other lorikeets think it's funny watching their friends in these kinds of antics? Knowing these creatures for many years as I have, I bet they do!
Mine does this with my hand. Shame I should get another one. This one just arrived. Flew onto my head out of the trees and stayed. It has a ring on it's leg. I let it go everyday but it comes back after an hour or so. Pecking at the window. Extremely lovable, active and quite exausting. Speaks nonstop too. Will play with anything even my pen. lol
Here I am back again to comment on this clip which has been in my favourites box since first viewing it. Comments says it was a year ago that I commented but I know it is much much longer, for I have watched it so many times and shared with my grandkids and now my great grandkids. All my life I have loved the pleasure that birds can give with their antics and love for I have had budgies who were just as adorable and were such a part of the family. I have tapped a good few "thumbs up" to remind others again about the enjoyment that this clip brought them also. Heres hoping they come back to comment again. Hope your still around Nique, thanks again for sharing.
Many thanks for your kind and generous comments, they're much appreciated! I agree with everything you say about birds, and the lorikeets still come here in large numbers every day and are utterly delightful and engaging. I recently shot some video of cheeky corellas pulling the tails of lorikeets and kookaburras, I MUST get on with editing that and uploading to TH-cam, it's very funny. Lots of other avian visitors too: for the last few months we've had a pair of southern boobook owls roosting in the breezeway under our house during the day and they've just produced a gorgeous fluffy chick! I don't think the other birds are too thrilled though, particularly the mynas and the butcher birds who kick up a very noisy protest as soon as they find the owls each morning. Delighted to hear the grand and great grand kids enjoy!
Thanks to your previous post I now know what that song from Robin Hood is, the one thats been stuck in my head for years lol, nice clip too, but I was surprised to hear Whistle Stop
That was adorable....my Lori is a demanding bird...should I get him a friend?? He tends to run the entire household as well as the two cats...lol...sometimes he even sleeps in bed with me, but has also given me a black eye....I think he is spoiled...I cannot even eat spinach without him...he is my love though!!
@toxxicrose Glad you liked it! And yes you are right about the music, it was a Disney production from quite a few years ago, Roger Miller is the singer/whistler.
wOw, that is the best video ever!! very inspiring as i have a lorrikeet on youtube (swearing possessed lorrikeet), and recently got a new one, would love them to wrestle like this!!!
@GrowTheCaine - it's called "Whistle Stop" by Roger Miller and was used in Disneys Robin Hood. A high pitched version was also used in the internet phenomenon "Hamster Dance".
In fact I believe you can buy Rainbow Loris in the US from specialist pet stores but they are very exopensive, like upwards of $1,000, or so I've heard. They are also quite a bit of work to look after, their droppings are very wet and messy!
@LikeTheBang It's"Whistle Stop" by Roger Miller and was used in Disneys Robin Hood. A high pitched version was also used in the internet phenomenon "Hamster Dance".
Great Video! I have that song as ringtone on my phone... as soon as I heard the song I wanted to grab my phone! But the I realized that it was on my computer hihi!
he had found him self a partner, she even moved into the same cage with him on the apricot tree, till one time she decided to fly away, my little buddy tried to follow her, jumping from branch to branch. I never saw him after that.
@GardianAngel16 I love that question!! It's"Whistle Stop" by Roger Miller and was used in Disneys Robin Hood. A high pitched version was also used in the internet phenomenon "Hamster Dance". Hope you didn't go crazy just yet!!
@AnOrdinaryAmerican1 Very kind of you - appreciate the solid endorsement! Maybe you're thinking of 2 songs? Counting Flowers on the Wall by the Statler Brothers and Paycheck Woman by Cledus T. Judd? Maybe recorded by Roger Miller too, not sure! Thanks for the tip, they're great tracks!
@julia393n thanks for that, yes I feel very privileged to live amongst the birds in Bayview, which is on Sydneys northern beaches at the south end of Broken Bay and Pittwater.
i love this birds they r the most colorful creatures wish i had birds like this come n go i would be in heaven.i do have a white bellied caquie n a maximillion pionus. i did have a female eclectus who past away in november from a heartattack she was 8 yrs old had her when she was 4 months.still sad i miss her so much.do u know what kind of parrots this r that i mentioned?
@ElleEctro I agree, they are "love birds" after all! But when on their own they can often substitute for another lori by forming a close bond with a human which is why they're so popular as pets.
Thanks for the comment! You are right about the music - it's called "Whistle Stop" by Roger Miller and was used in Disneys Robin Hood. A high pitched version was also used in the internet phenomenon "Hamster Dance".
Omg , ............... I tell ya , your videos have made my day god , ive needed to see something like this for ages , so damn good , had me chuckeling along beautiful work mate
Just seeing them jump along is enough to make you laugh, how do you get so many wild ones at your house? I also have a pet lorrikeet, it's pretty awesome.
That's really interesting- because we'll do this with our own Amazon parrot, roll them over on their back and wrestle them with our hands. He loves it. Also, wherever you live, I want to move there, to see those astonishingly beautiful birds playing in MY backyard! :o
not related, well, not exactly... they are just good friends. But sometimes the bird on the left yells out "hey cuzzin!" to the other bird but then that one yells out "he aint heavy - he's my brutha!" so I dunno, you tell me....
They're not really my birds. They live in the wild and come and go as they please. But I'm very happy to have them visit of course!
I actually have a pet rainbow lorikeet they're so funny but also abit timid too he has runners Soo yeah

im freaking OUT over how cute this is. melted my heart
I love the way lorys hop! Mine does it too! They are so cute!

Lots of amazing wild birds here in Sydney Australia.
Cheekiest, funniest, smartest little characters they are. I have three as pets (one a recent rescue) and they keep me in stitches with their antics.
I'm wiping my eyes laughing - the music is perfect for silly bird wrestling! It could be a TV show, "Tonight on Silly Bird Wrestling!" You have a fabulous deck, too! I love these videos of yours - keep posting!
"Mom, those two packets of Skittles are fighting!"

Precious! They're playing like kittens... you are so lucky :) Wonderful vid!
Loris are so weird and I love them
Hello friend, I enjoyed seeing these beautiful birds, thank you for your video
Aww look at them! Wonderful birds. x
these guys wrestle in the pet store too and they are very friendly and curious! I hope to buy one someday!

Glad you enjoy having a lori! I'm no expert on domesticated birds but although I'm sure he'd enjoy a friend he might become less interested in you...

The background music to this video is so cute!
