I looked up the total cost of this in 2024 -- you're looking to spend around the $300 mark, for me it's $319 because I chose a 55" desk over 47" for the shorter desk top. So much better than the desks I was seeing on Amazon, which were built cheaply. Thank you so much for the video!
The prices for all the pieces are now $398 where I am. The prices for the Lagkapten and other components basically doubled, but this is still worth it IMO. Going to pick up the stuff for this ASAP!!!
I've been to Ikea twice this week pulling my hair trying to build the best desk. YOU HAVE DONE IT. Thanks a million! Going back to grab all this stuff.
THANK YOU! So many people showcase their gaming setups, but then mention everything but the freaking desk!!! And it's this desk!!! 😂 I've looked every where for links and names! You're a lifesaver!
thank you so much for that 5 second clip where you show how you got them held together I am trying to build this set up in black and I couldn't decide how to hold them together because I don't want a leg in the way
I already had a 5ft butcher block table top from Ikea from awhile ago with the two Alex drawers and I just added a 8ft Vrena table top from Ikea as well to make a L-shaped desk. I did the same thing with the legs as well. Very stable and sooooo much space. just added the different desk tops.
Man the prices really went up in the last year. The alex drawers are 120 now (though i think white is still a bit cheaper) and the legs are around twice the price. Im doing the same thing but using butcher block from lowes instead of their counter tops
The butcher blocks are VERY heavy. I have had my countertop from IKEA for 3+ YEARS ($169 VRENA Countertop, oak/veneer, 74x1 1/8 ", I paid $109 at the time) no issues, no chips, easy to clean ink and I have even spilled resin and was able to remove it with no damage. If you don't mind the weight the butcher block is beautiful!
This is the best setup I’ve seen, all the corner desk I was looking at that look exactly the same and are smaller were like 600+ this is amazing 😭😭❤️❤️
I’m getting ready to build my IKEA hack gaming desk for my new home. I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford the wood countertops, but otherwise, I’m following your design. Thanks for the in-depth look.
I have a very similar setup with two 47" lagkapten tops except instead of two alex drawers I only have one on my main desk, the off desk has 4 legs and the main desk only has one leg in the back opposite of the alex to keep that middle corner open for my knees. Under the desks I put two flat metal brackets that keep the desks together and to add a bit of stability to that floating corner. Whole thing cost $170 in 2024.
245 isn’t bad. If the Alex drawers was included that’s great minus 80x2 til you ready. Even if 245 doesn’t include the Alex drawers it shouldn’t take that long to save 245 and you can order piece by piece. Or can make things cheaper shopping eBay marketplace and used furniture stores. I love this setup 💯
Thanks! I don't have enough money to buy this yet but I am currently saving up for my "Dream" Setup but was looking for an L shaped desk to fill space! when I buy a setup
Hey I’d like to recreate this desk but I’m curious are the table tops just laid onto the legs and drawers, like without the support of nails to keep them in place?
Around the 3:50 mark he starts explaining what he uses for the legs underneath the tabletop. I was about to ask too, but the timing was weirdly accurate and got right onto the topic the second I thought about lol. As for the drawers, I feel like you would be fine with laying the tabletop on top of both drawers. If you want to be safe, you could put something in between the table top and the drawer to avoid movement. Like small bits of rubber padding.
Late reply, but the legs are screwed into the tabletop. There are some premade holes but I ended up having to drill my own holes to put the legs where I wanted them. The drawers can be built with either a flat top or a top with screw holes in it, those holes line up with holes in the tabletop so you can screw them together.
I like the Alex drawers I think I just am going to get a hard wood top part to make my L desk. thanks for your video!!! I will update a video on my channel and mention your channel! thanks man!!!!!!!!!!!
you said your main desk side was more shallow and deeper than the other one? but when you showed the pics from Ikea, it showed they were both 23 inches deep with is the same size of the Alex drawers. I'm confused. or are they both 23 inches in diameter and one is just longer?
This is great and am now considering this my new planned office/gaming room. An with that I need to know where you got the SCAR with the lights on it on the wall?!
Similar to what mine is about to look. I too have a similar desk with drawers on the side, so all I have to do now Is buy another one but turn it with the drawers facing outwards and make this L shape so I can finally have a separate desk for gaming and for work Looking forward. Shits about to be insane 🤗
sucks that they dont have the deeper tabletop options now. all of their desks, at least in the budget range, only have a depth of like, 24 inches max which isn't a whole lot. my current desk is 26 and i can't imagine having any less real estate than i do now. this video isn't even that old and all these items are like twice as much now :') love inflation
I have a desk called MICKE, sold at IKEA as well. The desk is finished on the back so you have to saw a hole for a clamp to fit in it. The desk you showed here, did you need to anything to clamp the stand on it or did you just clamp it straight onto the desk. ~Thanks!
@@benyben3736 its cardboard recycled wood with a honeycomb pattern on the inside. Not real wood, just look at any affordable ikea countertop and go to materials. Name will be there I cant remember the name off the top of my head.
From what I have seen in other videos there are just tiny rubber squares, but I'm sure no doubt you could get risers to evaluate the desk a little. This tabletop seems to be made of honeycomb cardboard which is reinforced where the legs and / or drawers screw in with particleboard.
I've been looking into building an L desk made of the Linnmon & Lagkapten tabletops and know that they have a fiberwood frame and cardboard honeycomb material in the middle but I was wondering if anyone knew where I could find any sort of layout or image to see what the EXACT frame made of the fiberwood looks like? Like a diagram or manual showing if its either a rectangular fiberwood frame running along all sides or if it's just the shorter sides of the tabletop that are fiberwood, etc
Bro I just got a free table top with two Alex drawers. The lady threw it in. It’s this exact material you are describing. I mounted a heavy duty Vesa mount with an m7 monitor! I’ll post a video. @@Im0rtalChe3ri0s what is the dimensions? I’m just curious because I want my desk to give me a lot of room to use my pc and have space in between my monitors and pc.
I bought two Alex drawers used for $75 and got a 31 inch top with it. But I feel like that’s too much. I feel like the 23 would be more than enough room for both sides for me to make an l desk. 55 inch on one side and 47 or a 55 and a 39. Hmmmm. Ideas.
Hmmm I just finished building an L desk with one 31 inch deep and another 23 deep at first i thought the same thing but i changed my mind once i set my monitor up for there is sooooo much space, if you’ll be using a monitor and peripherals the extra width takes some getting used to but is great, hope this helped
