Can You Beat The Pitt Without Taking Any Damage? (in text form)
I hate doing this but I’m going to start with some information. First thing, I wanted to do this in Leaf Green because it’s the best game in the series, Fire Red is obviously the worst, but Gamechamp3000 did this in Pokemon Red, that generation’s already been done. So I picked Emerald. Next bit of important information, I like Pokemon, the games are fun, but I’m an idiot. I don’t know anything about Special Attacks vs Physical Attacks, or the IQ points or whatever the profanity of a Pokemon. Third, I did this in an emulator and allowed myself to speed up the game. All this does is save time, it has no impact on whether the challenge can actually be done or not. Fifth and last point, I’m a coward. Gamechamp did this the way a man would do it, any damage means you start the run over. Smallant1 gave himself some leeway, allowing himself to save after every gym, but that was it. I’m sure you’ve figured this out by now, that I am about the furthest thing from a man that there is. As long as you’re not in a battle or talking to someone, you can save the game at any point, and I 100% used that to my advantage as often as possible.
With all that boring nonsense out of the way, the challenge can begin. I named myself, and this is gonna blow your mind, Paul. I’ve always wondered why my parent organism stored me in the back of that truck during the move, seems kinda dangerous. The neighbor’s daughter left one of her balls on the floor, very unsanitary, and I had to choose my monster. I went with Torchic because everyone knows the fire fighting type is the best type in the game, just like the stealth archer in Skyrim. Nobody’s tired of it. And I took damage for the first time. When that happens, within the emulator itself, I press the reset button to virtually reset the Gameboy Advance, load the only save file, and try again. The Bidoof is only a level 2, but that’s still high enough that 1-shot kills are impossible. I don’t know what the percentages are, I didn’t care to check. I’ll break down a door with an axe before I check to see if the door is unlocked.
To get through this, the stars must align for me to be able to land 2-3 hits on the Zigzagoon without it damaging me. That means it either uses growl or its attack just misses. Once it ended, I named my Pokemon Dinkster because I’d need all the help from God I could get, and went to meet May in Route 103. So, the thing about this run is that it’s almost a 1-Hit KO only run. You can’t take damage if the enemy doesn’t get a chance to attack you back. And to achieve that 1-Hit Knock Out, you’re pretty much required to be a significant level above whatever you’re facing. Super Effective Moves help and are useful, but they’re not always an option.
To that end, my primary objective early on was to push the Dinkster beyond his digital and mortal limits. My Torchic would need to be a much higher level if I ever wanted a chance at beating this game. At first, I was only going to use the fast-forward to speed through the game reset, but it became clear that my sanity would not remain intact doing it this way. I compromised with the voices in my head and allowed me to speed up the game when leveling for experience.

that what made the run more funnier, Shedinja runs are easy to pull that is if you know what you are doing
Honestly I don’t blame him for not doing a Shedinja run. Sure it’s reliable but Shedinja has awful stats and you have to double check *every* Pokémon's matchup.
I mean, I don't care either way, the video was still entertaining but I really was expecting a Shedinja as part of the team just because.
That’s fair enough. It makes sense for it to be included in a no damage run. Just wanted to say how it’s a boring method.

Coming here to watch this after hearing the news. I'd only found Paul's channel recently, around halfway through last year. In the time since I've watched every one of his videos, some of them multiple times, and I'm back here for this one because it's easily my favorite.
We're all gonna miss you Paul. Nobody on TH-cam shares your same style of monotone delivery complimented by perfect comedic timing. Nobody does challenge runs like you did. And for me personally, there were very few other channels out there that made me laugh as hard as yours have. I hope that you can find peace now, because you deserve it to the fullest extent.

The Walrein in the elite 4 is weak to flying types too. That's why Sky Uppercut was super effective. Everyone knows Ice and Rock are weak to flying.

@Lord Fadora It's not possible to complete Yesman's quest if you have to kill him every time you see him. He turns into the unkillable computer screen but first he's in a robot body, and if you must kill everyone immediately, without speaking to them, then you can't complete the quest where he becomes the computer. So the challenge is impossible
Exantius E Yea but you can just work with Mr. House. Yes-Man’s quest is optional. You don’t actually see Mr. House’s vulnerable form when you first see him, so in terms of technicalities, House is not killable unless you go out of your way to kill him. So yes, I’d believe it’s completable in this state

Setting up is the worst strat in a no damage run cuz the other pokrmon has a high chance to just attack and you would have to do the battle again and again
@@hexar260 exactly: sand attack is basically just giving them opportunities to not hit you: better to try to instakill them and not even risk a hit
if you can't get hit EVER then it's not worthwhile to dick around with accuracy - avoid damage at all costs is the priority which in a more action game would be 'kill them before they even SEE you' not 'try to rely on this potential evasion skill'
double team is better because it's your pokemon - imagine needing to hit 6 different pokemon with like 3 sand attacks to feel 'comfortable' enough to actually start attacking (and likely getting hit)
or maybe using sleep skill knocking foe 1 out for a few turns double team up and then foe two your evasion is still high then foe 3 same heightened evasion - still WAY better to just try to wipe them in one turn but a hell of a lot more feasible
to top all of that off: skipping out on moves like that equals more attacks - even swapping out a ally for something that's super effective against their first mon could be a game over: a status move that can guarantee not getting hit (basically just 100% sleep moves or protect afaik) i could see using: almost everything else you'd want to be a powerful as fuck attack in order to try your best to one shot whatever's in front of you

and that's practically every run - really love lanturn love aggron and camerupt i usually like grass starters because they're usually more gimped for options whereas there's plenty of good fire and water mons
the only question is usually what's gonna be the extras - going nuzlocke forces you to use pokemon sorta out of your comfort zone usually and have more varied teams than like the top 10% of mons in a given game

I love the fact that you're playing Pokemon, because it's one of my favourite games ever. So, I should tell you some things:
When Gym leaders tell you that you can control a Pokemon level 30 or 50, or whatever, is for Pokemon that you traded. Pokemon you caught will always listen to you, no matter the level.
Also, Marshtomp is Water/Ground, which means that Electric type moves will not even do damage.
Hopefully that helps, and maybe you can play these games again!

Protip: Did you know Dark is weak to Fighting? It's because justice and stuff defeating evil and shit. Also, Sand Attack and Flash make enemies miss you a lot; moves that affect accuracy/evasion can be handy for this run, along with Paralysis, Confusion, and Sleep.
Also, can you beat Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl at the same time?
