Can You Beat Doom (2016) With Only A Pistol? (in text form)

After waking up chained to a table, the first "bonk" isn’t with a Pistol. Unfortunate. You know what, it’s a glorified cutscene, it doesn’t count. I got up, grabbed the Pistol, and began my campaign of carnage. You can skip the first Glory "bonk" by "bonk"ing the Possessed before the popup appears. I’m just gonna say it now, the Pistol sucks. Like, it’s the worst thing ever. But, we do have a few things working in our favor. The big one is that the Pistol has unlimited ammo and because of how weapons in Doom work, reloading is a non-issue. The second is that you can charge up the Pistol to fire a more accurate and more damaging shot. The downside is that it takes a bit to charge up and there’s a cool-down period.
Those of you with any Doom experience under your helmet may be thinking that I’m finding things a little difficult early on because I’m not playing the way you’re supposed to. You should almost always be moving and jumping around to avoid enemies. Doom is a fast paced game, it took me a little while to get a handle on how the game plays.
Despite being locked away in a cursed sarcophagus waiting for my knight in shining armor to rescue me while all "heck" broke loose, literally, it falls on me to find out why "feather-boys"s have invaded Mars and how to stop them. My first stop was the Resource Ops building, and wouldn’t you know it, there were "feather-boys"s in my way. Early on, I wasn’t too sure which was more effective, spamming normal pistol shots or waiting for the charged shots. I mostly just spammed the trigger to slowly whittle away at an enemy’s health. Even with the Pistol though, the Possessed aren’t much of a threat. They’re mostly just enemies that you can easily "bonk" to give you a sense of power.
After finding the blue key card, I got access to grenades that I can’t use. Earlier I said that I wasn’t going to use melee attacks because it’s not the Pistol. You may think that that mindset would also apply to explosive barrels, but I decided that it didn’t. The way I see it is that a barrel is a part of the environment. It’s like a "feather-boys" falling off a cliff and dying. If you disagree, feel free to Dislike the video. It won’t hurt my feelings.
I pushed onward, got a Shotgun upgrade that means nothing to me, started to get more of a handle on this “shooting while moving” thing, entered the Resource Ops building, and beat the first level. So far this hasn’t been too bad. Don’t worry, things will go downhill soon enough.
The 2nd mission is a continuation of the first in that I’m still tracking down the source of the "feather-boys" invasion. This mission, level, whatever, introduces you to challenges, things you can do in the mission to get more Weapon Upgrade Points. Some can be done with the Pistol, but most can’t, so I didn’t really pay much attention too them. Olivia Pierce revealed herself as the big bad of the game by sharing her evil plan.

Man I can't even imagine how scared the demon leadership must have been when the Doom Slayer got the BFG...then went back to using a security guard's peashooter. They tried so hard to stop him getting it, but the clearly taunting message he sent was far more chilling than any superweapon.

@@BobTheReaper enemies are designed in a way to have quickly recognizable attacks so that you can react to them. They attack in patterns. It wouldn't be impossible

Can you beat Prey (2017) with only the wrench?
Quick clarification:
The wrench is the only thing you are allowed to directly damage enemies with. Npcs/turrets are fine if you don't place them.
Also, all tools/powers are allowed as long as they don't deal damage. (Stunning/knocking out is ok)
I've done it. Not that hard. I'll be honest, that was my 2nd playthrough. When I was still shit at the game. I imagine if I retried it now be even easier
I actually tried this but also on the hardest difficulty and with no power ups (neuromods) but I did set up turrets. You can get pretty far relying on stealth but I gave up when you have to kill the technopath to progress as it seems impossible on the hardest difficulty. If you play it on the easiest you can just breeze through the game as you don't have to kill almost any enemy.

I remember watching an Ultra-Nightmare "pistol-only" playthru close after the launch of DOOM 2016. The only other weapon the guy used was the Gauss Cannon and he only used it for fast movement, not attacks. He used the heavy kickback to avoid the Cyberdemon's lasers and such.

Yup an easy way to get rid of them is to let them do their charge attack at a wall use the stun mod on the plasma rifle to freeze them in place and super shotgun their tail

I used the suppressed revolver with the stock attachment for over half of the game, it's really good against humans but i eventually swapped it for the automatic shotgun when more mutants started appearing

@Devin Dalton ammo per stage, so I would save my shotgun ammo, and plasma ammo, and all that in case there was an enemy at the end of the level that needed more firepower

It's interesting to me which monsters are players' most hated. Mittens despises cacodemons, but I personally don't find them to be that bad. Meanwhile, the sight of a hell knight in an arena makes me panic, while Mittens seems to be fine with them. Difference in fighting style, I guess

yes. All of the weapons in Combat Evolved are really good even on legendary.

@@vanconojl It's definitely no Shotgun, but it's alright for dealing with Flood at least. And yes, I've beaten the first Halo on legendary before, lol. You can get by with any weapon in a pinch on Legendary if you really have to.

To be fair, this game is basically a remake of the original DOOM, so it makes sense that the final boss is mostly the same. It's a great fight, though it's true that it isn't super hard. I think it's challenging enough

The reason that enemies kill themselves is a feature to fight glitches. It is entirely possible for an enemy to spawn outside the map, since some of them spawn relative to you. If an enemy can't move, get to you or make an attack within a specific amount of time, it'll kill itself because the game will assume that it was spawned outside the map.

Honestly Doom 2016 had somewhat of a deep and interesting story
doom had a story, however it just wasnt in your face about it, it was there if you wanted to read however if you just wanted to kill stuf it said go ahead why slow you down?
Yeah it had a really in depth story with the codexes and whatnot

One of my favorite details in this game is that if you shoot a cacodemon enough in the eye it will fire randomly and blowup
