    Hey Jocelyn, great tutorial. Loved it and learned a lot. For the waste with the Beadalon tool, don't take the metal off of the dowel. Slide the metal further away from waste down the dowel. Straighten your wire and wind around the beginning. No waste. Thanks again for sharing!

    When I make my own jump rings I wrap a price of masking tape around my players and mark it to keep them constant size and protect the wire from getting marred !

    i was taught to take a knitting needle, take the point of the wire with the point of the needle, put it in a vice and coil it around the knitting needle, take it off and saw it, get a lot of jump rings that way, just like the second method you show, with the exception of sawing it

    • @isjon777
      @isjon777 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      true, but your method is a good one no doubt, teaches you from the start how to bend and manipulate the silver wire

    Hello Jocelyn :-)
    I have enjoyed watching your videos while I was working on my polymer beads :-) I always need to watch and listen while I work and as I am still learning on wire work I just had to have a look :-)
    You do very beautiful work :-)
    I make my own jump rings as you say it's cheaper to do special with silver and gold :-/
    My Dad bought me a drill for Christmas so I could run them off faster and it works great. For my mandrils I use knitting needles as you can get them from 1mm right up to 20mm which gives me plenty to chose from :-) oh and they also come in ?.25, ?.50 and ?.75 on all needles :-)
    I have found the odd sizes hand at time when making chain mail :-) I just love making chain mail :-)
    I have found that you need to support all from 1mm up to 5-6mm so on the tool box Dad and I made for my wire/bead working o have placed a 6mm hole on the side and because the knitting needles have their heads with the sizes on that stops them from pulling out while turning with the drill.
    With using the drill I put the wire into the chuck once the needle has been tightened into it and when I finish I then take it all off the drill and out of the hole in the toolbox place the wire run back on to the needle and hand twist the 1/2 to 1 inch by hand so no waste as such :-)
    It does not work on the heavier gage wires though they are just to hard to do by hand :-)
    Well again thank you for the great videos :-) I have enjoyed and I have subscribed for the future :-) once I have been able to sit down and make some of the ones you have shown I will see if I can show you :-)
    Thanks have a great week end
    Kind Regards Angela

      Thank you so much! I usually just purchase my split rings if I need them - they require a more tough and springy type of wire which can be very difficult to work with.

    I love your videos, I have learned a lot however I am struggling with the kinds of wire to use for different things, ie., rings, earrings, pendants. Could you share with me your favorite and where you buy them, I feel lost in Michaels, Hobby Lobby and Amazon!!! Thank you!!!

    • @FantasiaElegance

      Thanks, Trina! I like raw dead soft copper for a good easy to work with budget wire. You can buy it in 4oz or 1lb spools from RioGrande for great prices, or from Copper Wire USA on Amazon in smaller amounts: amzn.to/39BHE1a
      Once you master the basics, you can upgrade to silver-filled then sterling silver! I buy all of mine from RioGrande.com
      I also have a few videos on selection wire which you may find helpful: th-cam.com/video/7kJehsjjTR8/w-d-xo.html and th-cam.com/video/xJXuC7mGlBQ/w-d-xo.html

    What kind of wire should pick half hard or hard ? Thanks

    • @FantasiaElegance
      @FantasiaElegance  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Gigi! I actually mostly use dead soft wire. It's easiest to work with, and you can always harden it by either hammering or work hardening. I mainly use half hard for things that need the extra strength, like ear wires, pendant frames, rings, prong settings, etc.

    One way to solve the problem of wasting wire with the Beadalon plastic mandrel is to just drill a new pilot hole closer to where the metal dowel screws in.

    What is the best size wire to use to make your jump rings

    • @FantasiaElegance
      @FantasiaElegance  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It depends what size jump ring you're making :) What I use most is 20 gauge for 2.5 up to 5mm inner diameter jump rings. But it also depends on how "chunky" you like your jump rings to look.

    How do you do that and not cut your fingers?

    • @FantasiaElegance
      @FantasiaElegance  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, maybe I've just gotten lucky, but honestly I feel like it would be really hard to cut myself, at least with the flush cutters I'm using. I think it has to do with how the cutting sides are angled away from the fingers, and they're not super sharp on the very tips. I've been making wire jewelry for over 10 years and haven't once cut myself with flush cutters... now I *have* impaled myself on wire a few times, haha
