      She has great knowledge but noones perfect i find Julia's american politics (internal) opinions quite shallow, also shes constantly scared about nuclear bombs not understanding the consequences it would bring for russia had they used one. Nuclear weapon is a threat not a weapon even in Putins hands. Regarding russia id also higly reccomend watching or reading Sasha Gessen's work shes also soviet born.

    Great interview! She clearly has impressive insight and the ability to articulate it.
    But, I question the possibility of this war dragging on for years. First, several experts state that Putin does not have enough reserves to even sustain a protracted war. Second, Ukraine is receiving weapons from literally DOZENS of countries. They collectively can sustain this, while Russia cannot. Furthermore, Russia's loss rate already demonstrates a rapid attrition which does not appear to be replenished.. Third, at some point the economic impact of sanctions, lost business, inflation, and extensive casualties, must reach a societal breaking point

    • @hans-martinadorf3834
      @hans-martinadorf3834 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I think you have listed all the reasons why the war has to drag on for quite some time. First, the Ukrainians have to be trained on more advanced weapons, which takes time. Second, a quick push-out of the Russian troops dramatically increases the risk that the Kremlin psychopath pushes the nuclear button. Third, the Russian army therefore needs to be worn out on the battle-field, which again takes some time. Fourth and finally, the sanctions have to have an effect, which takes even more time. The Ukrainian army needs to have the weapons to withstand the Russian army long enough, so that the wear and tear on the latter takes its toll and the Russian economy can no longer resupply the weapons lost by its army. The big Unknown in these calculations is China.

    • @gregparrott
      @gregparrott 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@hans-martinadorf3834 I agree, although the demographics suggest rate of attrition of Russia troops cannot be sustained for very long. Putin has said 9 May is an important date (historically, WWII victory day for the Soviet Union). Some analysts suggest he NEEDS to be able to declare some substantial victory by then. So, if he makes a major push in the next couple weeks and gets badly mauled again with little territorial gains, things could quickly come to a head. As best I understand it, China won't engage militarily, they would lose far more from the west than they'd gain from Russia, and financial sanctions would have a greater effect on China.

They interviewed their own camera man pretending he's just a regular guy on the street. Chris Cuomo tried to claim that only journalists are allowed to read Wikileaks so his viewers should not go there to read for themselves but instead just trust what Cuomo says. (In reality, journalists have no special privileges at all, anyone can call themselves journalists.) CNN has repeatedly "lost the satellite feed" when their guests start saying something that doesn't fit the channel's narrative. There are countless examples of dishonest behaviour at CNN.

    The current conflict can't and won't grind on for years as the Soviet war in Afghanistan did. Russia, in less than 3 weeks, has already lost many thousands of soldiers and well over 1,000 tanks, armored personnel carriers, etc. Over the course of the USSR's war in Afghanistan, 15,000 Soviet soldiers died, or roughly 1,500 a year. At the current rate of 3-5,000 Russian soldiers killed per month - a very conservative estimate - 36,000 - 60,000 Russian soldiers would die in a year of fighting. This obviously is not sustainable. This war has, at most, several months to run, particularly in light of the increasing US and other European aid for Ukraine. Additionally, by all accounts this is Putin's war and no one else's. We have seen from other TH-cam clips how various members of his own security council were shell-shocked at his decision to invade Ukraine. His own soldiers are without enthusiasm for this war. Once Putin is killed or otherwise out of office, the war will be over quite quickly. And even if he isn't deposed, Russia simply doesn't have enough troops to sustain the current rate of losses for an entire year. And that rate will only go up as more and more Javelin and Stinger missiles and other weapons are delivered to the Ukrainians.

    This comparison of what the USA went through on September 11 is not the same as what Ukraine is experiencing now. This is a false equivalency. The attacks on the US was not continuous and unrelenting. People still had a home to go to; there stil was a community living within a functioning society in a country that still retained sovereign integrity. None of this is what Ukraine currently has. None at all. If you must draw comparison then the situation in Ukraine is comparable to what happened to Poland on the 1st of September 1939. Ukraine is invaded in the same way as Poland was. That's the right comparison.
    But seeing that you are an American, and because of this, you cannot relate to any other country's situation in a detached empathetic manner. Consequently can only see global situations in a US centric manner, then the better comparison to make would be Pearl Harbour. This was an aggressive attack on sovereign nation by other country with aggressive intent.
    September 11 was just another terrorist attack much akin to what the UK went through because of the IRA.
    Stop co-opting disasters and making it your own with a false equivalency. Whether you can believe this or not, the invasion of Ukraine is not about you.

      It is a 9/11 like wake-up to reality moment for Western European countries already safe-ishly behind the fence of NATO. Like Germany.
      I think Ukraine and some other Ex-Warsaw Pact countries were never under any illusions of safety from Russian aggression.

    Russia can not turn this war into "29 year of Afghanistan", by a very simple reason: they run out of biomaterial order of magnitude faster then they did in Afghanistan. They already lost quarter to third of their army just in 3 weeks.

    I am not a journalist, but I always question someone's motivation and sources of information used in reporting evaluating "how deep and insightful" a journalist's work is. Deep-rooted conflict within Ukraine which have existed for years but was highlighted to the outside world only after the coup in 2014, in many aspects, is a cause of this war, not a blunt ambition of Putin to restore USSR.

    The 15-year law was voted by each and every one of the members of the Duma. The Russians are serfs in the service of an autocrat. Or put another way, serfs need an autocrat. The Mongolian heritage is sealed in the Russian mentality.

      Bro, look it up, the Mongolians weren't serfs, they were known historically as nomadic warriors. Even the Russian serfs rebelled periodically or went off to live in the woods. The slave mentality of way too many Russians comes from long term oppression, trauma, lack of unity among the oppressed and hopelessness, not anything ethnic.

    • @matthewhuszarik4173
      @matthewhuszarik4173 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The comparison isn’t better or worse. It is being shocked out of their complacency. 9/11 shocked the US from our illusion of invulnerability isolated by two oceans. Well the Russian invasion of Ukraine shocked Europeans from their illusion that Russia was so interwoven in their economies that she would never do anything like this. The problem is the world kept tolerating Putin’s aggression and he kept getting more and more aggressive. Ukraine and Western leaders have no on blame but Putin and the West for tolerated him. Putin and Russia should have been crushed economically the very first invasion in Chechnya. Everything subsequent was the direct result of Western weakness.
