IMO, this shrimp is the ultimate predator. It can hide in its hole all day, doesn't have to reveal itself to feed, and by the time prey realize there's an animal there, it's too late. Not to mention this thing is lightning quick... I think I want one 🤔

I assume this is because if they chose to stab, that could actually be very dangerous for them to do and possibly even harm them, whereas clubbing won't necessarily "stick" or get stuck in per say.
@aHumanBeing- Most of the "silver" colored fish are wild caught and all of the colored fish are or were sick, however the Stomatopods have a very unique and very amazing digestive system, they can consume lethal poisons not just sick animals...such as the blue ringed octopus, which any stomatopod large enough will consume whole and not be afflicted by the lethal poison it possess.
I knew right away that a few of them looked sick. A couple of those fish are pretty expensive so I figured they were sick. People getting upset at nature it's ridiculous. Now if someone is throwing cats to an alligator that would be sick. Thanks for the video.

Fish store owners need to be careful when housing Mantis Shrimp, the smasher type. I ordered one via a local aquarium chain a while back. Now, this store has an interconnected filtration system, meaning every tank technically has a connection via the filtration system. Well, the day I was supposed to pick up my shrimp they discovered it was no longer in the tank. Somehow it had found a way to get into the filter and vanished. Well, I had to go back a few days later after an exhaustive search revealed nothing save the fact that their fish inventory began to vanish and the sounds of "clack clack clack" could be heard now and then. They ordered me a new one, and wisely had it set up in a separate unit.

It's about diversity, I try to offer my inhabitants what they might get in their native habitats. Everything slightly larger than the mantis itself & all things smaller are on the menu but it's typically what I find for them in habitats that are where the actual mantis itself is found as well.

It does color morph :) the second one anyway right before it gets pulled into the burrow flashes red meaning its angry/excited (obviously the former).

Seems kinda wrong with how sustainability is going for wild populations of some of these fish to just use them as food. I'm all for feeding live, I have a peacock mantis myself, but wouldnt many of those fish be put to better use actually living in an aquarium?

Those wild caught are in excess of supply and currently litter our plates for lunch & dinner, they are not 'ornamental aquarium fish' and those that actually are, have been given a good chance prior to their "fate" because each one was suffering from some form of marine related disease that would of slowly killed them anyway, the giant spearer just ends it quicker.
