I was just thinking that, if they've already got a diver filming this then what's the point of spy crab? Most of the footage was from the other normal camera.
I think the operator of the spy crab will be cautious of being too close as to not have the mantis crab kill itself by striking the metal, indestructible spy.

The only category of animals that consistently outdoes us in those metrics are birds of prey. Pretty much the only aspect that we outright do poorly in is night vision, and that's a direct consequence of specialising for the aforementioned colour perception. Regarding the Mantis Shrimp specifically, it's worth noting that they can't actually perceive the colours that we see all that well.
We literally have the most sophisticated eyes in the animal kingdom. We strike a pretty good balance in most categories except for infrared and ultraviolet. Even color, we do better than most.@misstinwhistle1

These spy videos are some of the most entertaining pieces of media I’ve seen. The thought of the person controlling the robot gets to feel like what it is to be a crab or whatever animal they’re trying to mimic😂
Great footage. New tech is always improving the quality of footage of wildlife and I'm often surprised and impressed with what we get to see these days!
As a diver, who observes a lot of sea life in its natural habitat, I doubt any of these creatures mistakes the robot for an actual crab. As is pointed out, the visual capabilities of these shrimp is beyond ours, not to mention other senses that would likely identify that thing to them as just more plastic that humans have left in the sea. The shrimp is a crab eater, after all, but certainly made no attempt to eat the robot, lol.
