  • In this video I go over things to look for when buying a 6.0 powerstroke! As you guys know here on the 6.0 Bros channel we are huge fans of the 6.0 powerstroke. We feature 2, 6.0 powerstroke builds and now for those of you out there that are looking into buying a 6.0 Powerstroke, we are going to answer the questions what to look for when buying a 6.0 Powerstroke, and is it worth buying a 6.0 powerstroke diesel? To answer the second question though lets start to look at all the things I check out when I look at a 6.0 Powerstroke for sale. This will be the first video in a series of videos talking about is it worth buying a 6.0 powerstroke and also provide information that will lead into monitoring the 6.0 powerstroke. There are lots of reasons of why choose a 6.0 Powerstroke. In this series we will go over some of the reasons to answer why choose a 6.0 powerstroke. We will also go over many of the problems with 6.0 powerstroke. The problems with the 6.0 powerstroke are what gave it a bad reputation. Many people purchased them with existing problems and didn't know it. I am hoping that by making this video you guys can avoid many of the infamous Ford 6.0 Powerstroke problems. This will also start to show why choose a 6.0 powerstroke.

He put a new ipr filtration system in it, a new wiring harness and a new computer as well as other things. Hes ask 7500 but i think i can offer him 4k for it cash. What are your thoughts on the matter, do you this is a good buy or a money pit? ... well, any more of a money pit than most big diesels tend to be as far as fuel and maintenance and so forth.

      Well at the time I just wanted a diesel but I would say some of the upgrades with the 6.0, the vgt turbo for quicker spool up, the transmission braking feature. Plus I do love the sound lol. The sound was just an added bonus. I couldn't find any 7.3s that were not disasters or way over priced, and I'm happy I couldn't because I love the 6.0 and it really has been a great platform

    Do you think the alternator should be “high output?” I know some claim the higher output alternator will save the FICM. Also, I have a dual alternator setup. I wonder if these alternators are the same as the regular setup or different part numbers? Didn’t know if this was a good reliability mod or not?

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally prefer a single alternator setup. I highly recommend a higher output than factory. The factory alternator on the 6.0 super duties was the same as a v6 mustang.

      @dr.ramramphd8463 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @six0bros  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would address the egr now just to be on the safe side. I'll outbto affiliate links to options for it. After that bullet proofing depending on what you do is roughly 4500 on the low end with literally just the bare minimum to about 7,000 for a really good job with like kill devil diesel heads and such. Also could consider a long block to just drop in at that price keep that in mind.

    What is the name of the PID I am looking for to see the HPOP Pressure?

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Icp psi or icp voltage. Injector control pressure sensor. So if you're running a tune you will want to read it in volts. There is a chart to convert it over to psi but any tuned 6.0 does not read icp psi correctly. Now if it is a non tuned truck psi reads correctly

    On the ipr is better to be in psi better for anyone to see issues

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think you're mixing up icp and ipr. So the ipr is only able to be measured in a %. Besaically it commands how much pressure the hpop is making. 85% being the max and 15% being the least. The icp is measure in volts or in psi. While the psi is easier to understand because you know you just need 500 psi to start the truck. However some many tunes "spoof" the icp psi reading to fool the system into making more psi. So in this scenario you need to read it in voltage and convert it over to psi. There are charts listed for this. I should do a video on this topic though

      @six0bros  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hey man great question! I believe there are lots of trucks in your price range, and the 6.0 can be a great engine. My only concern is while you're young is they can have issues at times and they lend themselves to being pricey to fix as opposed to a gas counter part. Now once you dont have to worry about school then all day the 6.0 is a great first diesel especially if you want to learn how to do stuff on your truck because the 6.0 is great to work on. If you're dead set on a diesel I still recommend the 6.0 but cation about head gasket failure, and some other things. That set this channel can teach you a lot on how to fix things yourself.

      @@joshmanis151 so what is the average price for replacing gaskets, doing studs and getting deleted? I'm looking for a diesel truck and the cummins trucks just seem to be overpriced for the miles and condition they're in. I've seen a few 6.0 for less than 15k that are in great shape and leaning towards one instead of a dodge.

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a good stud job you're looking around 4500 now that should also cover all the machine work and o ring the heads. One thing to consider would be upgraded heads from kill devil diesel. They run 2300 so it will up the cost of studing the 6.0 to about 6,000 but then you have a superior cylinder head that has pressed in valve seats o ring, all new parts and a new casting.

      I hear ya, but I got a lot of great life out of my truck before I had anything major, and honestly I could have spent far less and had the same reliability I do now. Sure you will need head gaskets at some point or a head may crack. When the time comes spend the money put kill devil diesel heads and arp studs in it and you're good to go.

      The main reason I only recommend the factory oil cooler has to do with most of the after market ones running a higher delta. Between coolant and oil temps.

      Depends on how much it is. If the body and frame are in good shape I wouldnt hesitate to buy a 350k mile truck for the right price. If you have diesel fuel in your coolant the head is fine it has a cracked injector cup which is replaceable without removing the cylinder head

    • @six0bros
      @six0bros  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually injector cups are normally a 7.3 thing. 6.0 injector cups are rare. I have heard of a few more than not it is a cracked cylinder head that will cause fuel in your coolant in the 6.0 powerstroke.

I know everyone is busy. You could have at least responded. The reason I was asking, if I can change a component then I’ll do it. Somethings are worth letting someone else do it. I valued your opinion.. why did you ask what my truck was doing, if you weren’t going to give your opinion.
