      When done diy the rocketeer swap is comparable to the K24 swap in cost. One of the main reasons why the turnkey option costs so much is because it includes a fully rebuilt engine and labor costs too of course.

    To say that the 13Bs are misunderstood would be an understatement. They can be reliable if you know how to build and take care of them. I've had them for decades. A rotary Miata would likely be the best balanced too, so long as you're able to mount the engine low and super close to the firewall as most of its weight are in the 3 iron plates. Add an appropriately sized single turbo to something like a properly kitted 13B-REW and you've got a pretty monstrously fast machine that is also super nimble and fun to drive.

    • @xenokyomi
      @xenokyomi ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Better yet, perhaps a MSP REN Hybrid and keep it NA? You could possibly push more power from that than the stock REW since the REN had far higher compression and lighter rotors. Hybrid to ditch those tiny side exhaust ports, and the NA rotaries tend to be a little more reliable, least from what I know. Though Rx8s are cheap, so even a base MSP would be good. 240 ish HP is perfect for a Miata. Though then you're dealing with the MSP REN lol.

    • @3toedSloth75
      @3toedSloth75 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @XenoKyomi things have changed with moden ECUs and tuning knowledge. Mostly rotaries are sensitive to detonation. So a more conservative approach to ignition timing improves reliability. Not a lot of power to be had in advancing further anyway.
      People are finding ways to reliably boost higher compression rotors too. Boosted renesis even. Though you can get more from a properly built REW.

      im no dorito fans but the sad part is that most sporty rotary's were owned by people that didnt care about maintenance and mazda saw it and was like''hey, lets make the parts pirce go up so we can make money'' and boom, people now think they're unreliable

    It was out of the Mustang, 5 liter. Smaller and lighter than the LS, and fit without major cutting.

      While the SR20 swap is unique, for the cost/hassle/power ratio I think you're better off just going turbo on the BP.

  • @Drunken_Hamster
    @Drunken_Hamster 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    K swap is overrated. Mazda's own Duratec 2.5 is the ideal 4-cyl swap. Specifically, if you take the 2.3 crank and rods and put them in there with the 2.5 block, pistons, and head. The Duratec 2.3 and 2.5 are literally the Mazda K24, and they're also the precursor/cousin to the 2.3 Ecoboost and a variant of the Mazdaspeed 3 engine, the latter of which has been built to 800whp and the former to 600whp stock block. I've also seen dyno graphs of all motor Duratec 2.5-ish builds putting down 270+ whp, just like high-end all-motor K24s can.
    The best V6 swaps IMO (IDK about fitment or conversion kit availability though) would be Honda J35 and Toyota 2GR-FXE. Both can be built to 400hp/300tq, the latter can get closer a little more simply since it's already high compression, you just need to do to it what you'd do to a 2AR-FSE/FXE, which is to replace the exhaust cam with another intake cam, and advance the intake cam one tooth. in the 2AR (a 2.5 4-cyl) the immediately changes it from a fake Atkinson cycle hybrid engine into a 240whp performance engine. Scale that up roughly 50% for the extra cylinders and proportional displacement in the V6 and you're talking 340+whp EZ.
    The next best V6 swap is the 4.3L LV3 from the 2014+ Chevy lineup. Based on the gen 5 LS (called LT) platform V8s, it has as much power stock as an 07-13 5.3L LS engine. Off-the-shelf cams can get you to 375 crank hp, and if you research/learn from David Vizard, you should be able to relatively easily get around to 400whp out of that, too, obviously with more torque than the 3.5L V6s from Toyota and Honda. Another reason this is on the list is that it'll be physically smaller than the SOHC and DOHC V6's respectively, and probably lighter too, since it's 3/4 of an all-aluminum LS engine.
    Plus if there are already swap kits for LS engines, I'm pretty sure those will be adaptable to the LV3. If you need more than 400whp out of it, just boost it or add nitrous, there's plenty of room for it to grow, and even more in the engine bay with 2 fewer cylinders than "normal."

    I heard people mentioning the Jaguar V6, which I heard is an excellent swap. You’d be surprised to know that hot rodders in England are now putting Mercedes, BMW and Jaguar engines in their Ford Pops, Cortinas, Chevy pick ups and Deuces. Especially since the Rover V8 has gone to the scrapyard of history. Talking about the Mazda swaps, you forgot to mention the Villiers V10.

    I think a good swap would be a 3800 series 2, you can buy them cheap, and you can buy the already supercharged, they are impossible to kill, and if you get the supercharged one, all you gotta do is pully swap, cam, and injector swap, + a tune, you’ll be running like 350 hp and 9s (if your tires stick)

I beat a 392 scat by pure luck. In a miata ( which i now own a 97 montego bay blue ) it would rip. I promise 225 from a 24 would rip. put the timing up on the vtec ( close to 50 deg ). Kick it in at 4.2k and I promise a vette wouldnt beat that miata

    • @daryljoseph
      @daryljoseph หลายเดือนก่อน

      I was looking for this comment. I would use the b204 cause the Miata is small and light and with the shorter stroke you can rev it to 9000rpm all day, but for more low to mid torque in a heavier car I'd use the b234. Just know they dont want to/won't rev past 7,400 rpm safely, at least not for long. I would use a b204 with a b205/b235 head with 268 cams myself cause those heads flow much better, so a b204/205 hybrid. It's probably best to install knock sensors and coil packs instead of the D.I.C. so you can run a stand alone E.C.U. Alot of Saab guys say the D.I.C. holds these engines back but for me it's just cause they're expensive and they don't make them well anymore. Old junkyard D.I.C.'s last longer than the new ones they're making in my experience.

    The Ls swapped Miata can be a good bit less than 20k if you play your cards right. Like getting the monster Miata swap kit and using a Holley terminator for the computer but we’re it gets real expensive is the drive train because stock Miata stuff won’t hold up but if you get a good price t56 and Ford 8.8 rear end you can do it for around 13k.

    • @CashedOutCars
      @CashedOutCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It certainly can be done cheaper, that kit appears to be quite DIY oriented though. That’s the way I’d do it myself, but most people would pay extra for a more bolt in kit. That said, theres only so much about LS / big V8 swaps that are direct bolt ins with the extensive list of modifications. Have you built one?

    Great content, but in my opinion, for most people these swaps are pretty expensive $$$. Depending on what someone would use a swap for (performance, reliability, drifting/motorsports) it can go a lot of ways. For "cheap" and reliable 200-ish HP numbers you'll be looking at almost exclusively 4 cylinder engines. Engines such as VW 2.0 TDI, Mazda MZR, Mitsubishi 4B11T, Ford Ecoboost engine are just some of the other options.

    Also the "reliability" argument is just kinda dumb. 100K miles before a rebuild, and rebuilds costing a grand. Have you ever driven a car 100K miles? I usually trade or sell em by then. OK here is something I have done in the past and does not cost much ...get a bare front cut with trans tunnel
    with engine cross member and steering rack and column of whatever car you are wanting to swap an engine into and a dummy engine and trans of your choice. At this stage it will owe you very little, weld on some legs with sniffle castors ( braked ones) to put the unit high enough off the ground so you can comfortably use a creeper to get under it and wallaa you can go ahead and build a full engine swap practice on your favorite car. Now you might say that's an awful lot of mucking around? However it's not . Because! No1 you are still driving your car, no2 you have not devalued it by doing a half arsed conversion!! No3 a front cut with engine takes up a lot less room in your garage or workshop then a whole car AND you can put it aside whenever you want and still have a car to drive ! No4 if you cut bits out for access on a dummy run it doesn't ruin your end product, no5 an engine swap takes way more time then anyone anticipates, no6 when the swap is done on the dummy you can even do the wiring practice up to this stage you have learned a heap of things about yourself,( patience, swearing, when not to swear, you need more tools, you need to take time to learn how to use those tools, more patience, more tools, measure twice cut once, or twice, ask other knowledgeable people questions when required, internet answers are to be taken with a pinch of salt!!! ( no internet in my time, I am 70) my experience covers 53 years as a mechanic a dozens of engine swaps , the most interesting ones a 1963 vw microbus with ls6 454v8 and a Datsun 240z powered by nissan vh45de v8 ( this one used the front cut method discussed here. ) it saved many hours of worry about cutting into a good car . And when you finally decide to go ahead and fit it into your car it can be done over a long weekend roll in roll out, quality job, remember a good swap looks like it came from the factory that way, I love sleepers!!!!!
