- As we continue our Black History Month content, our focus turns to Reggie Jackson. Reggie had a knack for clutch home runs and that showed in the most important moments. Jackson had 10 career World Series homers including a 3-homer game in 1977 that gave him the nickname of Mr. October. Take a look back at all 10 of them here!

Say man. Given you brought up Koufax I'd like to ask ya opinion on something. Say Koufax never retires early and somehow manages to pitch into the A's vs Dodgers 1974 ws match up. Do ya think Koufax would've stood a chance against Jackson?
@@JamesDeanRivera It's a great question one in which theory would have been if Koufax was healthy. His pitched incredibly well with a painful arthritic elbow his last several years....now let's say he was healthy and hung around and had that juice against Reggie. I think it would have been epic and I think he would have gotten Reggie but......I wouldn't have been surprised if Reggie got him as well...leaving Lasorda counting even more Reggies rather than sheep. Great question and ohhh would have been great!

Reggie would watch them & admire his taters, but he actually got around the bases pretty quickly.
He was Mr. October before he got to New York. Period. Three titles in Oakland, two in The Bronx.
He missed the 1972 World Series against the Reds because of a knee injury in the ALCS against the Tigers
But nothing like this or when he dusted Welch to puncutate Game 6 the next year.

Damn, you know a player was great when he has a whole 10 minute highlight of just World Series home runs. Reggie was one of the greatest playoff performers of all time.

Reggie was the Dodger destroyer! All of his homeruns were against the Dodgers, except one homerun against the Mets. Wild...Was like one long series against the Dodgers. He went 3-1 against them. Probably the only reason he didn't go 4-0 was they sat him for most of the 81' series...which was strange considering his success against the Dodgers.
He also hit multiple HR's in ALCS series' against the Orioles, Royals, and Brewers. Dude was just an absolute beast in the post season.

Loved everyone those Home Runs. What happens if Reggie played for Dodgers. 50 Homer's a season. He could hit Dodger Stadium like it was nothing.
I was thinking the same thing. He loved hitting home runs in Dodger Stadium. It was like homefield advantage for him.
But was it because of the stadium or being in the clutch situation that made the difference. If he was just playing regular season games there as opposed to the World Series maybe he doesn't hit any better than he does in any other ballpark.

The home runs off Tommy John and Bob Welch either hit the back of the bullpen, the divider, or cleared the enclosure altogether. I could never find verification of the measurements. At that point, only Wilver Stargell had ever hit a home run completely out of Dodger Stadium ⚾
I grew up a Dodger fan, and I absolutely hated him. Now that I'm older, I know what greatness I was able to witness, whether I liked it or not. My hat is off to you, the real Mr. October!

Boy this era brings back a lot of memories. I remember the Yankees coming to play the Royals in the '77 ALCS. I was 7 years old and at game 3; my first MLB game. Best memory was some guy yelling at Amos Otis throughout the entire game..."C'mon Amos! BEEEEEEEEE Famous!"

His team was one strike away from giving him the opportunity to hit some home runs in the 1986 World Series; but it was a home run by Dave Henderson that crushed the hearts of the crestfallen Angels.
I remember that like it was yesterday or 6 minutes ago. I was pulling for that special veteran bunch of Angels to finally get to the World Series at last. I wanted so much to see that 40 yrs young Mr. October in the World Series one more time. It would have been great That would have been something - that 86' Angels squad against the young 86 Mets team.

When the Angels had the Red Sox one out from elimination, I just had this strange premonition that the Red Sox were not done.
Henderson was at the plate and I thought he might hit a double to, at least, tie the game; but he knocked it out of the yard to silence the Disneyland faithful.
I know that, to this day, Bobby Grich still gets choked up about the game and, especially, about Donnie Moore.

I don't know if any of the videos are still available, but there was a list of 20-25 greatest baseball games and, of course, game 5 of the '86 ALCS was one of them.
Bob Costas was on the panel and both Bobby Grich and Dave Henderson were guests providing their commentary and perspectives.
Costas notes after the Red Sox' second out in the top of the ninth of that game, 'So now Mauch HAS to pull Witt...' because Gedman was coming up and he was the hot batter for Boston in that game.
Henderson's HR gave the Red Sox the lead.
Angels rallied and tied it.
It was Henderson's Sacrifice Fly in the 11th that
gave Boston the lead and the win.

Mr. October was a Dodger killer !!!!!!! Reggie loved Dodger stadium !!!!!!!!! Just imagine if Reggie would have taken that offer from the Dodgers for more money, then the Yankees offered in 1976. The DH rule had a lot to do with Jackson staying in the American league. Reggie Jackson was the MLB of the 1970's !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just remarkable how he always shined during the biggest games. Incredible how Mr. October won over America with his World Series excellence !!!!!!!!!!!!

He almost went to the Dodgers but Mr. Gene Autry, the "signing cowboy", and owner of the at that time California Angels swept Reggie off his feet and he preferred the American League to the National League due to the designated hitter.

It's a shame he got hurt in Game 1 of the 1981 ALCS and missed part of the series. The Yankees would have swept those L.A. clowns if he had been healthy. Also wish he California had not choked in the 1982 and 1986 ALCS.
Pathetic camera work in the 1970s too.
I counted 3 lousy camera angles on 3 of the homeruns. I always hated ABC Sports baseball coverage. The homerun in 1974, the 2nd homerun in Game 6 of 1977, and the homerun off of Tommy John in the 78 series. All garbage angles. Notice also that the cameraman couldn't even find the ball when it reached the seats. The camera is going all over the place trying to find the ball as it lands in the seats.
Just noticed that the home run off Bob Welch was lost in the evening dew, as well. Either that clout, or the bomb off John could have cleared the back of the bullpen wall for all anyone knows.
