People forget that he won a World Series with the Blue Jays in 1992.

I saw him play many times in the late ‘80s live at Yankees stadium. I loved him so much. He used to hit frozen rope line drives … and he had a rocket arm. It was so incredible to watch him live. He and don Mattingly unbelievable
Absolutely phenomenal athlete.
Dave Winfield was such a good athlete that he was drafted by the Vikings even though he didn’t play college football. In addition, he was drafted by the Padres in MLB, the Hawks in the NBA, and the Utah Stars of the ABA. Had he played pro basketball he would have been a star. Maybe not a HOF, but definitely a great player.

Enjoyed watching Dave play for the Yanks from 1981-1988. Tremendous guy and player.

I have most of his best baseball cards from the 70s thru the 90s. Very undervalued
Dave Winfield is extremely underrated & there aren't many Outfielders whom i would take over him; if i made a Dream 9 Team, Winfield would be my 5th Outfielder behind Aaron, Mays, Mantle, & Ken Griffey Jr.
We went to a late season Angel game when they were well out of it. We snuck down about 5 rows from the third base dugout around the 2nd inning.Dave was starting to wind down his career but still in good shape. They put him in to pinch hit later in the game. He proceeded to make a mess of the box and settled in. Dude was so big he took up the entire box. He launched the highest shot I ever saw in person into the left field stands and brought everyone who was left in the house to their feet. Totally awesome, glad we stayed.
Captain Dave Winfield was a Padre for 8 years. He would've had better numbers but at that time, Jack Murphy Stadium had ridiculous high walls, which prevented his HR numbers to be greater.
He still ended up with 154 career homeruns as a Padre, to go with a .284 career BA as a Friar.
Winfield's career reminds me a lot of Stanton and Judge; one of the most physically intimidating players of his time. Amd who knows how many homers he could've hit in his prime in a more hitter friendly park?
Also he was so dominant in college that he was an All-American and College World Series MVP... as a pitcher!
Winfield was a better overall hitter and player than Stanton or Judge. He hit for better average and didn't strike out anywhere near as much. He stole a fair amount of bases in his prime. Plus he won 7 gold glove awards.

He was definitely ahead of his time, you rarely see guys of this size, especially as all Americans in three major sports, deciding to choose baseball now, you folks kind of understand the world Aaron Judge comes from

during his prime years, he was an absolute MONSTER...he did everthing well. And I'll capsulize his greatness like this: we know what he did with the bat and he won 7 or 8 GGs. But in a career that lasted 21 seasons, for a guy who was 6'6, 230-240 lbs...Dave stole 209 bags in 15 yrs, during his best years...he averaged 15 bags up to that point. Pretty damn impressive, for a dude THAT BIG if you ask me. Yea, he was a monster...and such a VICIOUS swing.. Kinda like Garry Sheffield's swing without the 'bat wiggle'.

Winfield made so many catches at Yankee stadium where he would kick in the wall to climb it and make the catch. It was a regular occurrence and the one in this video isn't even one of the better ones. Come on, MLB, you can do better. I watched so many Yankees games on free TV back then and I can't believe you only have one Yankees outfield highlight? Really?
Thank you. It seems like this the only one they have. I remember one of him diving into a crowd to bring a home run back. Best catch I ever seen.😮

Fun fact: Winfield holds the record for doubles in All-Star competition with 7. No one else has more than 3.

@@guitarlover80 - Brett was the greatest player of his generation. I feared no player as much as I feared him. If I had to choose one player to be at bat for my team in a clutch situation, it would be Brett.
Best player for the decade of the 1980s was Ricky Henderson hands down.

Daves cycle looks a bit strange on that triple,McCrae had that ball,then bounces off the wall and decides lets makes sure Dave gets this triple,stumbles over nothing,cuz he was ok off the wall and if u look that stumble ABSOLUTELY pushed it over,cuz it would have at least been close at 3rd,Dave wasn't RICKEY HENDERSON,just sayin I lived SPORTS growin up,outside playin wall ball practicing grounders,wiffle ball,basketball out of whatever I had,u name it and I started watching these gms a little closer and I just felt like there is something wrong with all the DRAMA in sports at EXACTLY the right time and I'm not sayin there cant be some drama but then around early 00's more and more and more to the point u turn on a game and u are ABSOLUTELY going to get a heartpounding finish!!They disguised a lot better most of the time in the 80's and much of the 90's but not today,look at the 80's NFL and it was lopsided losses that entire DECADE,all NFC dominance now today miraculously the UD finds a way to win at least half the time,its nothing new anymore,so yea these major sports and the big NCAA schools are 100% SCRIPTED and what pushes it over is the TECHNOLOGY today and if u think its not out there just look up MAGNETIC Football and gloves set and BASKETBALL and board sets for PRIVATE use and even on the commercials it says they work so good they are not allowed in highschool or college sports,but says NOTHING about the PRO'S!!🤔🤔that says a lot!!thats where u get these stupifyin one handed grabs TODAY and these crazy 3 pt shots from every angle and DISTANCE from the floor like their reg jumpers and if you've ever played basketball u know damn well how much harder it gets without heaving it from ur chest like they USED to do,now its back and forth from half court,stupidest crap I've ever seen,most of these guys are sleek not muscular,umm..CURRY,clear my throat...and its not a real big deal if the fact that these games and athletes are AIMED directly at the kids and thought of as heroes and really their just ATHLETIC ACTORS,think of how these guys jump into FN movies,with supposedely NOT A DAYS experience!!its the same exact thing with RAPPERS,I can name a top 10 list of best RAP actors who supposedely came from the streets but they apparently can jump right into a STARRING role in a major movie,EMINEM..clears throat!!I still have a deep seeded love for the gms I grew up on but its almost impossible to watch the newer stuff,BTW yes I've seen same kinda stuff from my ERA too,BIRD vs MAGIC,JORDAN era,SOX vs METS WS in 86 GIANTS SB win in 91,etc....they just did a better job keeping it under wraps AND technology was nowhere near as good,I mean I can tell u this for SURE I never saw in my life an NFL KICKER clang the uprights 4X in 1 game!!!😂😂😂,that used to be somethin that happened once in awhile,not EVERY game!!
