Paul Ferris is a Scottish author and former organised crime figure. Ferris was an enforcer for Glasgow 'Godfather' Arthur Thompson in the early 1980s. Known for his ruthlessness and extreme violence, he rose to a prominent position in the city's criminal underworld.
He served a prison sentence for weapons possession in 1984 and believed he had been betrayed by the Thompsons. In 1991 Thompson's son, Arthur Jr, was shot dead. Ferris was charged with his murder and subsequently found not guilty after what was the longest criminal trial in Scottish history at that time. He was imprisoned again from 1998 to 2002 for trading in firearms and possessing explosives.

Great podcast James, I have a lot of respect for Paul Ferris ,he is a very educated man ,and projects himself very well, and fair play to him ,he should be a psychologist ,he could redirect the thoughts and attitudes of our current youth ,based upon his own learned experiences ,I grew up up in the same environment as he did and chose a different path ,but what an ambassador this man is ,good on you 👍👍👍

Agree, there’s no ego or narcissism. It’s about the interviewee not him trying to be clever.
He’s a great listener, he behaves like a counsellor to the point it makes me think he’s studied counselling skill classes because he uses all active listening techniques counselors use - paraphrases, reflects, clarifies, summarises, sharing, positive encouragers etc. He’s a natural. Very professional - f words aside 🙂.

What an inspiring, well spoken , well educated guy. I’m all for about being in the present and not the past as everyone can change, however every character needs “shaping” through their childhood, adolescent years, teens and throughout life.

@@adriantroy9294a few fancy words there 😂 but makes you wonder, like the bullying over time lit a fire in paul that he might not have ever been able to get access to without the torment.
That it basically took paul from being a reserved , good lad into a very vengeful person towards people who were bad to him.
But then who knows how things could have developed. Gang and knife culture is mega in Glasgow and paul may have still went down that route of criminality even if the bullies did not exist, however that resilient character might not have been as prominent.
They school years are crucial for your character building ( as you know).
A think as paul says he became fear resistant. Once he knew the damage was a kicking or punched a few times and that your not made of glass it certainly changes the way you feel , the fear you have dissappear's and a toughened version of yourself emerges.
As paul says on a tv documentary scalping one of his bullies was nothing more than a self satisfaction.
Really good listen tho. A do like Paul's take on allot of things.

I met ferris a a few years ago, about the time his film was being made.
He spoke in a soft manner and was very polite. He never acted hard or moved about as to say "Im a Gangster" If you did not know his history you would never know what he once was, unless you looked into eyes, they told a story of their own. He was severely bullied as a child which explains how he became so relentless. Their was nothing false about him I respected him for that.

What you should do, is watch this with the subtitles, they are auto generated, and it cannot handle a Glesga accent, it's an absolute riot. The subs have absolutely no fuckin' relevance to what's being said.

Special human being is Paul and James knows the love I've got for him and his work💙 note to the bullies out there whether it's children or adults. The bullied individuals WILL get even at some stage and it could be as bad as a stabbing or even worse a shooting this is how tortured the victims are mentally

I believe Paul Ferris for the life experiences he has, he should have a platform for the people whos lifes are being overwhelmed by someone or something and even those who are at the other end of the stick that are causing alarm in peoples lifes, make them see a new point of view or something....Btw the 'Yardie' Paul spoke about i hope he didnt get any abuse for the colour of his skin or the fact he's only 3feet! Wtf, all the comments about Tommy Robinson, i think Paul ferris is articulate and has a lot of good points, at school there's always a finding out where you stand, who is a fighter and who's not, then you get the guys who gets battered most days who turns out to be a hardy guy later on in life.
