That's like the worst of both worlds though. You get none of the performance and all the drawbacks. Also I feel like docking the Deck is a pure downgrade (but I play mainly PC games, not console ports) just because you're letting go of a best controller known to mankind.

For new dock users, set resolution to 1080 in display settings,( has to be docked) and set every game you're gonna play to fsr(I prefer fsr 3, mess with it to your liking. also don't do this if the game has fsr built in, also also nearest is best for pixelated games) and don't worry about changing it back when you undock it. In hand held mode fsr doesn't activate if a game is hitting 720p or above, it defaults to linear when it can't use fsr. But docked and set to 1080p it will use fsr at 720p to reach 1080, so tweak in game for games to run best in hand held mode and just let fsr handle tv upscaling, unless you want to tinker for that resolution too.

I actually didn't dock my deck for several months and thought it was a silly thing since I also have a desktop gaming pc. But then started playing with it docked and for some reason something changed for me. I really do use it like a console, I'm more likely to watch intros and cutscenes and pay attention to dialogue; I've started playing other games that I wouldn't have before; and I've even added shortcuts to streaming services so that it even now completely replaces my firetv stick.
I can't explain why this changed things for me, but it has.

  • @makbar59

Another really big option to consider within the same frame as the mini dock are just type C hubs. I imagine most if not all work with the deck and they have become super cheap while offering the same options as the official dock. If you want to prop your steamdeck up, then you should look into a case with an inbuilt kick stand. The total is going to come closer to a dock but you'll be getting added on the go functionality.

Thanks for featuring us Kevin! You look so cool wearing the XR Glasses over the beanie. 😎 We strive to deliver the best XR gaming experience - that's why we worked with HARMAN on the audio system and put a lot of effort on the ergonomic design and making the display the best it can be (including accurate color calibration, brightness, and a pixel-free PPD). We made the Mobile Dock with the Switch in mind so that users can have an even better experience on this already-portable console - and it's literally just plug and play. 🤩 So glad you're liking VITURE One!

I almost exclusively use my Steam Deck docked and I love it. I've been playing Elden Ring on it lately and it's beautiful. I'm sure that it can get loads better, but as someone without other consoles or gaming PCs, it's great.

How's the jsaux one holding up? On Amazon if you switch the reviews to recent like half the people are saying there's is not working after a few months anymore. I was going to pick one up because they're so cheap but if it's just going to fry on me after a couple months I might go with the official dock. But I would love that display port to run on a spare monitor I have so I have a backup PC but ultimately I'll probably just end up using it on a TV. But if anybody else bought the jsaux one lets me know how it's holding up!

    • @sarcasticmcspastic8073
      @sarcasticmcspastic8073 ปีที่แล้ว +4

I know its a bit late but I have an answer:
The deck has some pretty advanced battery protection systems, and one of them is the fact that when above %90 charge, all power from chargers or docks is just pushed directly to the console itself
No battery passthrough, and no wear. Valve made this thing so if you wanted you could leave it plugged in %100 of the time

does anyone know if you can safely (and effectively) use a nintendo usb charger with a Jsaux dock on your steam deck? I accidentally collected 2 nintendo chargers and it would be nice to just leave one plugged in near my TV next for both of the switch and a jsaux dock to swap back and forth. I'm less concerned about how effective it is because even if the power draw in docked is more like the switch, i assume it would drain very slowwwwly when actually firing on all cylinders. But it's my understanding that when you dock the deck, it uses the same power, unlike the switch

  • @WyvernDotRed

As nice as a dock is, I have a simple dongle that works great, personally I use it with Steam Link instead.
This as my WiFi is stable enough for it and the streamed image is surprisingly clean and low latency.
So I tend to play on the TV or even my desktop with the Deck connected over WiFi, if needed with a long charger too.
Advantage being bumping the connector not causing issues and not being tethered to the screen and if on battery not at all.
And it lets me use whichever headphones/speaker and I think microphone I want to use, which is usually the remote output but internal input.

Not that the actual dock expérience is bad, but you can saw than it's not optimise, like a Nintendo Switch.
One idea than can be good is to have 2 dock set up, one for TV user like a Switch and a other for Monitor user, to be more like a tradition PC. Steam Deck can do that, but imo it's not optmise.

I’ve been using the JSAUX Dock since $90 was a hard price to swallow. It’s fine if you’re okay with sharing your charger with it, however it has an annoying problem where sound frequently crackles/cuts out for 1-2 seconds.
It doesn’t have a consistent pattern of how frequently it happens, but whenever I’ve been playing a game for maybe an hour or two, this will happen at least 3-4 times. And I should also note that I’ve tried this with multiple monitors, speakers, and HDMI cables, and I’m convinced it’s the dock that causes these audio crackles.

Don't be foolish and get that Jsaux dock. The extra charger you get with the official Steam Deck Dock for $20 more is totally worth it. You can have one charger on the dock always connected and keep the other in your storage case for when on-the-go. I feel like the only reason Keven is pushing the Jsaux one is because he has affiliate links for Amazon and not Valve/Steam.

6:09 The cheaper option would be an android phone with good gyroscopics, a good phone VR headset, and something like RiftCat connected to your pc. You will get the same experience even with Steam Deck. Sad thing is it's like a poor connection at times like you're cloud gaming even with a USB connection. I've beaten a few games with this, but that one little flaw can ruin it's reliability as very good as the software and app is. It's way easier than spending hundreds of dollars though if you have the income to throw at it I say get the glasses. It's a very comfortable experience, especially lying down.

I find docks to be useless. Why? Because I'm using DeckMate attachment and it makes it so deck doesn't fit into the Dock that's otherwise profiled to exactly match Deck's bottom surface. The good part is, every dock is just a bog standard USB-C hub.
