I highly recommend reading a paper from a Microsoft researcher titled "Why Do Nigerian Scammers Say They Are From Nigeria?" It goes pretty deep into explaining the science behind these kind of scams, right down to the typos, poor grammar, and obvious lies. They're trying to quickly weed out the savvy crowd and directly target only the extremely naive and gullible.

YT ads are set up in Google Ads platform so Google is the culprit.
I am an experienced digital marketer and lately Google are basically pushing us to spend as much budget on and campaigns as possible for our clients without thinking about the negative impact it could have.
Since COvvVID this has really ramped up as Google lost loads of money.
I'm totally not surprised by the Mr Beast ads. If Google really cared about blocking scam stuff they would have picked it up from the off believe me. Rather they will let it run for a bit without looking deeply into it so they get their share of client spending on and campaigns.

The weird thing about most of them Mrbeast promo channels is that in the channel description it says a different channel name in the link part, and its also usually a channel created in like 2010. Most likely meaning these promo things are random accounts that got hacked into these promos.

As I am an elder xellenial-type and, therefore, completely out of touch with current trends and celebrities, though, it did not occur to me that the fluffy gamer gentleman who was swearing the game was a real deal life changer and totally not a scam was supposed to be famous until you just mentioned it. I presumed generic local commercial actor. Learn something new every day, I guess. Great video. I'd still like to see Scott do a video about the Zoboomafoo episode, Snakebellies, specifically the subplot with implied nudity. It's not so much that that's weird as it is that they'd have a subplot about the character of Zoboomafoo wanting the Kratt Brothers to get naked against their will. That's the kind of innocent yet dirty nostalgic weirdness for which I come to this channel.

I am really looking for a game that's offered to me in a dark alleyway and when I play it it feels so good I will want to play it more and more. Then eventually it stops being fun, but not playing it just makes me feel physically sick and turns me into an emotional wreck, so I need to go looking for more anyways, loosing more and more of my life savings until eventually I can't afford it anymore so I have to borrow money from some sketchy, big, tall, burly dude who I can't pay back so he beats me up into pulp and I end up in a hospital with a broken leg, 4 broken ribs and a punctured lung.

Normalised fake content is just rampant these days too which contributes to this “don’t trust anything” guard we need to have up. For example: There’s a TikTokker with nearly 5 million followers called Eloise Fouladgar but most of her videos consist of a setup of a fake crazy situation (“my plane did an emergency landing after I found a suspicious package in the toilet”) but then her part 2’s just straight up never get made.
On a more serious note, she also has faked multiple stories about stalkers and situations where she’s in danger. For most people the videos are clearly fake, but for younger impressionable fans they get heavily invested in it whilst she’s shilling products to them on the side.
