    I met Steve Garvey circa 1978 at the San Diego zoo. He was with his wife, Cindy and their daughter. I had my Dodger cap on and he noticed it, and said “I like that cap”! My mom adored him. (I was a fan of Steve Yeager, to be honest) but he and his family waited until a zoo employee could find a mechanical pencil so that he could sign my little sisters autograph book. I became an incredible Steve Garvey fan from then on. I was 12 years old. The joy he brought to my mother was something to see.
    Sadly, my mom, little sister, as well as my little brother who was there, ( he never even remembered the zoo)? And my dad are all gone. But that memory, as well as thousands of other Dodger memories will be with me forever. Go Dodgers!

      the fact that Todd Helton is in the HOF but Garvey isn't, just proves how biased and unfair the election committee is. no oversight, just personnel feelings based on loosely interpreted criteria

    Two overdue honors for "Popeye Arms" Steve Garvey:
    1. Dodgers retire his number 6.
    2. Induction into the Baseball Hall Of Fame.
    FYI: Steve beat Cancer!

    • @bakerman10
      @bakerman10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The Dodgers have a policy to only retire players who are in the HOF. THey made the first exception with Junior Gilliam and just announced the second with Fernando. Garvey next?

    For those who don't know: Steve Garvey played in 11 playoff series in his career, and was the LEADER IN HITS AMONG BOTH TEAMS IN THOSE 11 SERIES 7 TIMES. Show me anyone else who's done that. Absolute clutch playoff performer. He had SIX 200-hit seasons! The only First Baseman with more than that is Lou Gehrig!
    Garvey batted in 1036 teammates in his career;; Mike Schmidt batted in 1047 teammates during his career. Garvey was great! Let's admit it, and put him in the Hall!

    My favorite player of all time, when he left for the Padres I was 12 years old and heartbroken... because I knew I had to go with him as well. I still rooted for LAD but not against SG. Bring from Philadelphia my favorite team is America Team the Dallas Cowboys and with his red, white and blue wristbands which I had to wear as well...I felt like he was an extension. Also if Dodgers fans do not know...my favorite coach in baseball was LaSorda and he was a huge fellow Cowboys fan. He took the Dodgers on an annual trip to the Cowboys training camp site in Thousand Oaks.The DALLAS COWBOYS WEEKLY NEWSPAPER covered the visit every year. The Cowboys and Dodgers to me were perfect together..Rams never mattered..I stopped watching baseball but I still love Garevey, a true American hero...WHY IS HE NOT IN THR HALLOT FAME??????

    Senator Steve Garvey ... in Nov of 2024 Garvey in the 70's ... I was there, in the 70, Dodger stadium. Lived in LA , married had two boys ... It was magic! And the dodger line up was mind boggling . One of the best times of my life, a girl from Arkansas moved to NYC and married, came to LA and my boys loved base ball... We lived at Dodger stadium. The rest is history. Steve Garvey , you are the best Garvey is running for US Ca Senator 2024... Its magic again... and you sir have my vote for Senator in Nov 2024 . Let this bad boy have the torch for Ca... Its not over till its over... Orange County Ca resident !

    Steve was a part of a vastly underrated infield that were together for nearly ten years. I'll throw it back to something Davey Lopes said years back- "when you talk of one of us, you talk of us all." Him, Garvey, Cey & Russell were the modern-day version of Tinker to Evers to Chance, although, a bit better, as all had different styles of hitting. All of them deserved The Hall as A Combination. One wasn't better than the other, as they will never be duplicated. ⚾⚾

      @republicanred4863 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good Lord. "WAR" barely existed during Garvey's career, friend. You obviously never saw him play. The man could hit homeruns, start a rally with a bunt hit, was a gold glove fielder and was always clutch. WAR, smh.

    • @bconni2
      @bconni2 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      i can believe it. the election committee are composed of mostly East coast writers who have a personnel bias. if Garvey and Hodges were a Yankee or Red Sox, they would have been elected in decades ago.

    Steve Garvey's HOF snub is one of the cruelest in history. he was easily the best first baseman in baseball for about a 10 year period. there must be something more to the story we're not aware of, like the East coast baseball writers have some sort of a personnel vendetta against him. because if you look at his career numbers on offense and defense and the post season, he's clearly a hall of famer.

  • @larry930legend

    Great tribute although I'd rather see vintage videos of Steve Garvey and not cartoon cutouts. Hmm June 6 1968 was Robert F Kennedy death which took place in Los Angeles. I too believe Steve ought to be in the Hall.
