Garvey... We lived at Doger Statium , and Steve was my secret fantasy... " never told my husband" ! Now , my two boys and my husband will be voting for the great #6 ... Garvey!
I cringe every time I see someone else wearing Number 6 for the Dodgers. If the Dodgers can retire Fernando Valenzuela's Number 34, and he will never get to Cooperstown, why can't they also retire Steve Garvey's Number 6?
By all means he deserves to have his number retired. As a Dodger fan for over sixty years, I have to say that they are one of the best organizations in MLB, but sometimes you wonder why they do some of the things they do, and why they don't do some of the things they should do.
@@glennstevens4259 Steve Garvey has spent the first 14 years of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the fact that he has been in San Diego for only 5 years yet the Padres have retired Steve Garvey's Number 6 by all means should be a direct slap in the face not only to the Dodger Organization, but to all of Los Angeles. 1974 was all Steve Garvey when the Dodgers went to the World Series! Like I said, if the Dodgers can retire Fernando Valenzuela's Number 34, make an exception for Steve Garvey!
@@williamkirby8092 Oh, what you’re saying is that the reason why Fernando Valenzuela’s Number 34 is somewhere on Dodger Stadium is because he had enough Financial Backing to have it put there. Am I correct? You think someone like Steve Garvey can’t get that much Financial Backing? That’s why we don’t Number 6 at Dodger Stadium?
Garvey was my fave player as a kid... That said, I feel the main reason he isn't in the HOF is, quite frankly, players, coaches, and writers just flat out don't like the guy. He comes off as a self absorbed douche who is his own biggest fan. You can debate his batting stats, and look at his deficiencies on defense...but despite that, he still retired w THE highest all-time fielding percentage for 1B, and he NEVER recorded more than 9 errors in any season he played 1B (including 0 errors in 1984 season). That, w his postseason/ASG numbers, 200-hit seasons,...and of course his 1207 consecutive games streak... definitely should be HOF 👍⚾
@@tsiqueido That and his numbers did suffer as a Padre. He had a legendary playoff against the Cubs that should get him some consideration, but his Padre numbers were mediocre. Met him with my brother about 8 years. Super gracious, as you would imagine.
@dennis3178 He was an S.O.B.! He was so STUCK on HIMSELF! He reminds me of the 'Jack Parkman' character in the movie "Major League 2." Where it was all about HIM! HE ... not any other player, was the MAIN ATTRACTION. VERY self-centered.
@dennis3178 Garvey and Don Sutton once got into a slug-fest in the Dodger locker room. It took Rick Monday, Reggie Smith and Davey Lopes TWENTY minutes to pull the two apart. Sutton called Garvey out on all his B.S., and Garvey DIDN'T like it.
When you think about all the players that have been held out of the MLB Hall Of Fame because of cheating, lying, gambling, etc. and then you see a ball player like Steve Garvey also never being voted into the Hall, it really makes you wonder why. In my opinion, Garvey did enough on the field to be voted in. When you couple that with his off the field lifetime accomplishments, he is very deserving of being a MLB Hall Of Famer. Very belatedly they finally did the right thing and included the great Gil Hodges in the Hall. It is now Steve Garvey's time!
Why? Hmm.....Where to start: Most of the players he played with despised him for his constant image grooming. He only was concerned with himself and his image. When he left the Dodgers he took out a full page ad in the LA Times dripping with every tear jerking homily you could image..telling the world what a great guy he was. Next: He could NOT keep his dick under control and had at LEAST 2 bastard kids with 2 different "ho bags that sued him. He started the "Garvey Marketing Group" after he retired, in La Jolla with one objective: to market himself! He's a total ass hole, always was!

I hated Garvey and the Dodgers back then as a Reds fan. But, Garvey had a HOF career. Statistics are OK, but Garvey had great moments in the biggest games. He was a 10 Time All Star, MVP a Champion and was the best player on the those Dodgers teams.
@@RansomHollywoodI have to agree. Garvey was my hero growing up too. No doubt that from 74-84, Garvey was as popular as Rose, Schmidt, Jackson, or Rice. Was a perennial all-star and was a stud when he started. He excelled in the postseason and was a gold glove caliber 1st baseman. Six straight 200 hit seasons is something Rose never accomplished. But, if you look at his stats, they’re not even close to HOF numbers. Garvey did play in an era where offensive stats were pretty low. 35-40 HR’s would often lead the league. Also, his years as a Padre were pretty sub-par. Strange about that Dodgers team from the 70-80’s. With the exception of Don Sutton, not one Hall of Famer. Lots of all-stars like Smith, Baker, Cey, Lopes, and Tommy John, but no Hall of Famers. Very weird.
@joeydbball1729 VERY WELL put. Just because Garvey was the MOST POPULAR Dodger in the 70's, nearly EVERYONE is crying that he should be in the HALL. POPULARITY DOESN'T get you there! Career STATS-DOES! Garvey was BETTER than MOST players of his ERA, but that alone, DOESN'T make him an MLB GREAT!
@joeydbball1729 It's weird though, how Garvey's GREATEST seasons occurred whenever the post-season came around, because that's when he was at his best.
@joeydbball1729 STATS from the average player THAN, were pretty low. I remember when Garvey hit 24 HR's in a season, and he was the talk of Los Angeles for an entire MONTH.
The Dodgers will only retire #6 if Garvey makes the HOF. As it is, they’ve already retired 12 different numbers, and therefore they really can’t add to that by retiring numbers of “very good” players too
I remember him as a great player and person. So I he got my vote for California Senator.
Steve Garvey for U.S. Senate in 2024!
Garvey for President!
Garvey had a HOF career. If you just look at gross just numbers, maybe not. But dude was in 10 All Star Games & was clutch as hell in the playoffs.

Steve Garvey running for the Senate.
Lol
He was born to play for the Dodgers. Should be in the Hall.
NO WAY! NOT ONE of his stats support that. He was a many time ALL Star, ONLY because he was better than MOST of the MEDIOCRE players ... THAN!
