    It says on Audio-Technica's website that these are not plastic but magnesium alloy (it looks and feels very much like plastic - only a bit cooler to the touch but not much cooler like, e.g., Aluminium alloys) Magnesium usually replaces plastic and Aluminium in some high-end consumer electronic devices (laptops, photo cameras, etc) being very strong and light-weight (as light as hard plastic, but stronger) at the same time.

    Ive had the ad700x, the ad900x, and the ad1000x. The 700 is great for its crisp highs in its price range, the 900 adds more bass but you loose some of the highs. As a gamer i can only recommend the ad700x. The AD1000x is better in every way but also cost twice as much as the ad700x.

    • @SneakyBinHidden

      I agree about the price of the 700x Nothing, Absolutely nothing can even compete to the AD700x in price and how great they are in pinpointing footsteps and enemy’s, but for me the 1000x are a Huge Improvement and for me it was worth the upgrade.

    Hey Zeos, love your content. Thanks for all the effort.
    Need an advice on the AD Lineup from Audio Technica.
    Wich one of the following three, strictly for their imaging quality? Nothing else considerd but the price (because prices for this line is fucked, over here in Germany).
    500x = 125€
    700x = 170€ (refurbished)
    900x = 230€ (refurbished)
    Again. Music, comfort whatever does not matter.
    Do the higher Models a better job at imaging footsteps and other noises in game?
    Thank you in advance.

    ATH-AD1000X or HD 650??

    • @dnd6379
      @dnd6379 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Tested both, own 650. I didn't own 1000x just tested them in a store with a few flac and mp3 files. The 1000x have way bigger soundstage and are more chill in a sense that it is not in your face. Meanwhile 650 can sound wide not as 1000x ofcourse but pretty wide (good enough for games) and very close/intimate. I tried testing 1000x with some aggressive songs (electronic, rock) but couldn't get it to sound the way I wanted it to, it was still quite chill sounding (not cold, relaxed), it sounded warm but at the same time didn't sound colored. Being that chill also means that you can listen it at good volumes for long. Sometimes I have to turn down my 650 because the mids or highs get too much but it's mostly do to recording quality of many songs or youtube videos. I would say 1000x are on ears not over since pretty much the whole headphone touches the ears (R70X are even smaller). The only problem in Europe here is that the price of all AT open backs is double.... so 1000x are 575€ = 653$ and 2000x are 200 bucks more (prices from Amazon Germany) and 1000x in my country are over 600€. It would be good if you could test them, so you can see how those wing style headband works for you (A2000Z) wings were more comfortable for me by quite a bit, at least the minutes I played with them.

      For me, who prefers airy sounds and a wide sound stage, hands down 1000x. The hd6-- line always sounds great to me but all of them are too mid focused and close for my tastes.
      Both are good. It comes down to taste though luckily in this case they are massively different so choosing is not about better Vs worse it's about what you like.

    I guess i'm weird, I think this series of headphones are amazing strait out of the box, I never felt the need to change the pads on mine at all. I do however hate the non removable wires, and shocked that AT would make them fixed on these upper end models. Is Best in Verse still doing wires? i'd like to order a set for my hd600's.
    I'll eventually end up with these 1000x or 2000's... but I know i cant go wrong with either, and if i can get the 1k's for a good price i'll do it :)

    Hey great reviews I’m fairly new to understanding all this type of info, but you pretty much make it in lay mans terms thanks. I did have one question though. Most of my recordings are downloads from TH-cam on my iPod and they are older type music like Matt monro, Jack Jones, Frank Sinatra, Perry Commo. Very acoustic treble filled songs, so from your reviews I’m really excited to try to save and get the 2000x. My question is bc some of those recordings are old and rare, they may not be the best quality but not scratching or anything when you listen to it but some may not be studio quality. Will that effect the way I hear it through these amazing headphones? In other words do the songs have to be in great quality for it to come out that way through the headphones? Thank you for your help, Zack.

      Hey, I actually bought both from Amazon Prime, and ended up returning both of them. The bass on the 400s was anemic, and the 1000x highs are too piercing for my ears. I have a rather large head, and the 1000x was extremely tight around my jawline.
      If I only had a choice between the 400s and the 1000x, I would have chosen the 1000x. The vocals were phenomenal on the 1000x, which makes listening to lounge music very pleasing.
      Instead, I bought the 400i. I highly recommend this headphone, as the planar bass is awesome and vocals are very clear. I bought it for $460 back in the summer, and it is only $250 on Amazon Prime now!

      yes that he 400i deal is amazing get those if you can get them at that price the new black revision also had some wire and driver improvements. But if the 400i are at 460 dollar get the 400s and hm5 angled pleather pads. I had the 400s before swapping out to 400i and the 400s with stock pads were bass lacking, but the hm5 they are like a warmer 400i with a tad bit less detail.

      @icecreamgee 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      My friend has the akg k7xx and he bought the ad1000x. When I heard the two the akg was the clear winner (though they were bass heavy). The soundstage was more "present" on the akgs and they were brighter than the ATs. I wanted to know how the 9500s would compare on the scale between the three and ofcourse as id imagine the AKGs were the winner but the 9500s came second. Between the two the philips definitely sounded closest to the AKGs but presented significant harmonic distortion against the AKG. Even with that in mind I felt like the 9500s sounded better than the ATs. The ATs felt like there was more to be desired from...it's always hard to explain.
      Anyways, that was my perception on the matter.

    PSA to those who are comfortable modding headphones, you can buy the ATH-AD2000/2000X drivers directly from Audio Technica for fairly cheap. $138.20 for two 2000X drivers, and $90 for two 2000 drivers. In Japan ATM and I fund a pair of ATH AD1000. I tried them out and I was shocked about the clarity, soundstage and highs... They put my AKG 712 Pro into shame for clarity... I compared them to the 1000x and they sounded exactly the same just double wire for the newer Xs. I paid only 90USD second hand for them so I cannot complain. They were 2004 model but like new... A nice bargain. Would you say they differ much from the 1000x?

    Why wouldn't you want some bass in a pair of headphones? I got the 1000x for gaming and I was little underwhelmed coming from a Sennheiser Game One which from what I read, uses the same 50 ohm driver as the HD598 and HD558. The Game Ones sound fuller I think. I would be interested in hearing your take on the Game One headset, pretty superior to the Game Zero in my opinion and also a quick comparison between the 1000x and Game One. I really wanted to like these better than the Game One, but I don't know if I could, they sound clear but maybe I just have to switch back and forth more and see for sure. I'm not an audiophile either(if that wasn't obvious already), but I try to be. The 1000s seem really open if thats a description, I could hear what you were saying about the differences in distance between left and right with the millimeters and such, I could also say that they have sort of an FM-ish sound to it, thinner maybe? like the music sounds like it is coming out of speakers but with the Game Ones it sounds like a more pure form of the music as if I'm in the song and cannot hear a "speaker sound", but they're(Game Ones) more closed in/stereo/left/right too but still with gaming seems to be great for me when pin pointing gun shots without seeing them in all directions not just the basic 4 NESW.

    The ebay pads arrived yesterday, and while it's WAY easier for me to get a proper fit now, the sound suffers in a negative way.
    Basically the upper mids get boosted, while the lower mids take a step back. On a lot of songs (except songs that are vocal forward) the vocals just seem recessed...
    Which is a pity, because I can get an easy fit so fast with the new pads.
    But the sound of the first pads was definitely superior.

      A lot of people consider the 700x (the only one he didn't review) to be one of the best headphones for gaming due to the incredible highs, treble, and soundstage for positional awareness; Even prefering it over the 900x. So if he says 2000x has ''The best highs in a headphone'' i think that's a good estimation that it's superb for gaming.

    Have you heard of the Ossic X (formerly Sony VR apparently) headphones currently doing a kickstarter campaign? As far as i can tell their only unique feature is IR tracking and cup separation calibration. Do you have any info on them? I'm sort of considering pledging, but it kind of just seems like a gimmick unless you have a VR headset to use it with, which might allow it to really shine in coordination.

    • @mancue
      @mancue 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony Vazquez That's a hard one. I would probably get the 600's, since you don't have a super flat pair, But if it isn't the 600, then I would go for the 1000x. By the way, nice collection!

    • @JBKeyz88
      @JBKeyz88 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fabrizio Ariel Mancuello Rios I was thinking of the 600 but I've seen reviews that the 650 is similar to the DT 880, so I would assume the 600 is as close. I think the 1000x would be my best bet from this review as it has more highs and clarity with the least amount of bass. I also own the DT 1350s and Sennheiser Momentums. Those are my favorite portables.

    • @mancue
      @mancue 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Anthony Vazquez I own both 650's and AD1000X, and they are really good(I have not heard the DT880's yet though). I've heard HD 600's and they are a little less rolled off at the high end and a little less warm at the low end than the 650's(therefore, the 650's are more pleasent), which makes them really flat. They are also narrower. The 1000x's are totally different. Both of them would be an amazing purchase. I would not be able to decide. Flip a coin I guess.

    Thanks. Your review helped me to decide between the 900x and 1000x for mixing. I got the 1000x. I’ll say how later.
    I’ve been using the m50x even for mixing and like the sound but wanted an open back to help with imaging and clarity.
    The reason I like the m50x is the mid dip. May sound odd but I get to mix with more exciting bass and highs but the end result is balanced. I used to use AKG 240s but the mid is so present I’d back them off and my final mix had a mid dip. It doesn’t matter what you use to mix; it only matters that you know how they sound. I got used to the 240s but mixing wasn’t as sexy as using the ATs.
    Anyway, here’s something to listen for that may help people: punch and attack. I use Bright Idea by Orson to check headphones. The 900x was similarly clear and airy but they didn’t respond to the drum hits as well as the 1000x which are way more responsive. You can hear the sharp attack of the drum hit and the clamping of the compressor (that the mixing engineer used). The 900x sounds like there’s thin cloths veiled over the drum heads. It’s a clarity you don’t notice listening to the frequencies; you only notice it listening to the percussive attacks of the notes. Maybe that’ll give an extra dimension to people when comparing listening devices.

    Every Amazon review says it lacks low end, to the point of not having one according to some...

      It is less then what a neutral set would have. Doesn't matter. you get these for vocals and strings.

      +Nathan Scott Well good headphones for music SHOULD be good headphones for TV/movies. So your choices are limitless.

    How do these compare with the t50rp mk3s w/ mods since they only really differ by $80?

      +Christian Piscos Better highs here. More open and wider sounding. Not as much bass by lots.

      When it comes to open headphones, should I get the AD1000X or the HD 650?
