    Hey! Thanks for your video covering the SFC30-7CV-S. I've been eyeballing this mower since it was announced and the addition of casters on the front convinced me it was time. Just placed an order today. Delivery is in about 3-4 weeks to save on freight. Super excited for this overkill mower. For those curious, it sounded like the peddler my peddler gets his peddles from has lots of both models available right now. Also, actually just saw a used 2021 model without casters show up at one of the local dealers so anyone in that market should really start looking close at their dealer's used inventory.

    We have one with 135hrs on it and we’ve gone through 3 burned clutches and it’s in the shop getting the 4th clutch put in. Our dealer said they’re having to replace all the clutches with belt/pulley systems since the clutches don’t work. I don’t think it’s too heavy and it’s a cool mower (can’t cut lower than like 2”s on the original models bc the axle) but it’s been in the shop repeatedly over the same thing so I wouldn’t buy one until they fix that issue!

      For a weekly mowed lawn, the HP is good for this machine. If the area is overgrown, this machine would have no problems taking care of it. There are other videos of this machine going through tall and thick grass with ease. It all depends on what type of areas you mow.

    Nice machine overall. It sounds like the Honda the engine is based off of, but in seriousness I like Kohler's Command series engines. They tend to be more reliable than Briggs in general, that includes Vanguard. It's a huge improvement over Toro's offerings for sure. That being said, I don't need a walk behind 30 when I have my Honda HRC216HXC and my 20 plus year old Kohler Command powered Cub Series 2000 machine.

    Hi Matthew. I just watched your video on the Scag. I’m looking at this exact one on Tuesday July 5th and I wanted to ask you if you think it would be good to buy if I’m mowing my personal yard that has a decent hill in the back. I mow the hill now side to side with a hrz Honda self propelled and it does fine. I’m just looking to upgrade to something that produces a quality cut and will last me. I’ve never really been around scags so I didn’t know. The dealer said it would do fine as long as I lock the castor wheels in on the front. I just didn’t know about the weight weather I would basically wear myself out trying to battle it or would it just cruise along like the Honda does? Love to hear what you think. I could always send you a couple pics of the hill to see what you think.

    • @matthewsmowing
      @matthewsmowing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will say this, if you have to keep your push mower steady, the SFC will probably be a bit of weight to try and keep straight going side to side on a hill. I’ve taken it on some ditch lines and it did ok, but it was harder to keep it from going down to the bottom.

    Thanks for the video! I just recently purchased one of these, and I have to be honest, i'm kinda dissapointed in the mulching performance of this machine! • @matthewsmowing

      I’ve used it for mulching and it didn’t seem to do well either. I just recently found out there is a baffle in the front that is installed for better bagging purposes. It can be removed for better side discharge and mulching capabilities. I haven’t tried it yet, but that may fix the issue.

    • @matthewsmowing

    @ryansellscars9773 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you had a chance to use it yet? Comparing this to the Wright 36 velke and the Ferris. I like the size of this and the Ferris FW15 over the Wright. How is this on small hills and overall maneuvering? There is a LOT I like about this mower. The one thing holding me back is how small the drive wheels are and no reverse.

    • @matthewsmowing
      @matthewsmowing  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve had a chance to use it and it’s been great. All depends on what kind of terrain you have. I’ve taken it on small hills and it did fine. The drive tires have been fine, no slipping. Reverse is a personal preference really. I just rotate it on the back wheels like a push mower. It’s pretty well balanced.

    I just picked one up last week and I have to say, that bagger is a real PITA!!! You have to remove it from in between the handle, then grass dumps out of it if its fairly full while you're trying to pull out the bag to empty it. Also, when engaging the blades, the motor bogs down pretty good before the blades get up to speed, then all is well. I wish I demoed this machine before buying it. Lastly, the bagger already has a tear in it and I only have 2 hours on it. Ugh!

    • @matthewsmowing
      @matthewsmowing  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Most bagging units that I’ve used will spill out a little when you remove the bag, it’s just the way they’re set up. When engaging the blades, you should ease into it. Since it is tension actuated, it can be too much load on it if you engage fast. Not sure if the bag can be warrantied, but that shouldn’t have happened unless it was rubbing or picked up a hard piece of debris.

    • @tonymcfee
      @tonymcfee ปีที่แล้ว

      @@matthewsmowing When engaging the blades, I do ease into it and it still seems like the engine strains before the blades are up to speed. I have a 20 inch mower where the bag rests on top of the push handle instead of under it like the Scag and it doesn’t dump grass when removing it to empty. It’s a much different design than the Scag, but it’s something I’m going to have to get used to. Overall I like the mower. It’s quality built. The bag, I’m going to try and get another one under warranty. The rip looks like it was from the outside as you can see the frayed material, but then again you never know.

      I have the fw 15 and accelerator catcher. I like the fact 99% of all plastic bags fit completely over the accelerator. Almost zero loss when emptying the catcher. Catcher fits perfectly under the qwik chute, no tools swap between the two instantly. Gxv has 30% more power than Kohler. Power reverse puts the ferris in a class of its own.. Absolutely no muscling just steer and go. Y turns are effortless. Too bad inflation has put most everything out of reach.

    Nice video man. Have you had a chance to use her in the field yet? I’m in the market for a 30 inch mower to start my business and be my main machine. I’ve been back and forth between this, the toro/exmark, and even stepping up to the Ferris fw15 since it has a reverse. The main complaint I’ve heard about the sfc is that it’s heavy and will beat you up after a days work. Do the caster wheels remedy this problem, and are they worth the added weight and length over the non caster model? I’m in a metro area and will be targeting smaller city/ suburban customers mostly under a quarter acre, but would like the ability to take on slightly larger properties while I grow into a stand on. Thanks!

    • @matthewsmowing
      @matthewsmowing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had the chance to use it. It’s been great for me on the yards I’ve tried it on. It does have some weight to it, but I’ve had no issues maneuvering it and pulling it backward. The caster wheels definitely help with maneuvering in tighter areas. It’s all about the areas that you’ll be using the machine on. I’ve had no issues on flat areas and hills alike. If you have a lot of hills, I would suggest the SFC or the FW15 for the higher HP and the bigger transmission over the Toro and Exmark.

      I work for a pretty big lawn mowing company and I can tell you the Lexmark 30' mowers are garbage, my boss bought three brand new one's and that all had to go back to the dealer because the motors started falling off, completely lost a few engine bolts. We dissembled the breaks because they are dangerous, when you squeeze the handle they tend to pop wheelies and jerk out of your hand, this has happened several times and the break locks the throttle control on causing the mower to just take off on its own. On mine it went over a curb and out across a very busy street, we hit cars fences and houses because of this flaw. We mow a lot of hills bowels and swells at first its fine but after a while the wheel drivers hive out the gears are not strong enough for constant use on slopes, we now have seven new ones and that are almost never at the shop at the same time because some are always in the repair shop getting fixed for something. I almost have my boss talked into getting the Toro 30" every single person I have talked that ive seen with them say they love them they are half the price and half the weight of the Lexmark 30" So whay can Toro make a good Toro mower and a lousy Lexmark is beyond me. But now my boss has discovered the new scag 30 " mower so I think he is going to get some. And the Lexmark navi. Well that's another nightmare, sold that piece of junk.

    • @matthewsmowing
      @matthewsmowing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For me, it’ll be a learning curve to not push the handle bars down to turn and just let the machine do the work. The only thing I can see is still on turns. When you release the drive handle, the transmission isn’t easy to push. It may make for harder turns and may end up having to turn the machine the “old fashioned” way. Time will tell, but overall the machine is a lot smoother to operate and the weight isn’t as noticeable with the casters.

    • @matthewsmowing
      @matthewsmowing  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The SFC 30 was actually made more to compete with the likes of the Toro Turfmaster and the Ferris FW15. The Timemaster is more of high level homeowner to entry level commercial. From the construction of the deck, the transmission and even the blades, that’s the reason the Scag is at the price point that it is. Being in the class that it is, it needs to have competitive features for that $2,500 - $3,500 price range class. I believe it is totally worth it for the price, because of the build quality alone.

    • @firstname6208
      @firstname6208 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not really a comparison, the only thing similar is the price. FW15, bigger tires in the rear with air. Bigger engine (honda 390), hydro trans power variable speed forward and reverse, wider 32" cut, and as with the scag single point height adjustment, both are similar weight. The only drawback of the fw15 is the gas tank could be bigger. But it fit in a certain size box and thats that. Wish it had an oil filter, an engine that size should have an oil filter.

      It all depends on what your properties are. It’s another option to help get the job completed. The engine has nothing to do with the Toro being that way. It was made for homeowner use and has the features to show that. The smaller discharge opening of the Toro takes longer for the grass to exit. Where as with the SFC, the discharge opening is much more open which allows the grass to exit quicker after being cut.
