We bought a cottage in Ireland and found out we had tertiary right to dig turf on the nearby bog it was a great family outing to foot up the turf so it could dry and very satisfying when the trailer loads of turf arrived knowing we would be warm and toastie over winter. Nothing else in the world smells like a turf fire we do miss it
Cutting and saving turf is part of our cultural and heritage .This is an other freedom they will try and take from us . There is counties in Ireland that if you want to build a new house , you can't have a chimney or stove , utter madness .
@@martymartin2894 The bogs will be left to go wild, better for the Environment and a cleaner way to live. Once it's cut away it will take thousands of years to grow back.
Digging out large chunks of bog with industrial-sized machines was never part of our culture and heritage. Hand-cutting with a sleán was respectful of the bog.
It's all mining rights taken on thd sly through signature if single farm payment ho D.A.F.M....an indrodndent agency nit tge original department responsible fur truth in national land registry..at parish level the local roman gibshite xnd his privy council 😊
How many times do you handle it? 3 times; once to foot it; 2nd time to load it; third time to put it into the cooker/ stove, you also get the body's central heating up to working temperature with the exercise.
We turn it once after 15 days from cutting, put it in heaps after another 15 days ,load it and take it home after another 10 days, never fails, mix it with the previous years turf and she'll burn good😅😅
Brilliant.
Long may it continue
That was a really good video, and shows a great Irish tradition which I appreciate, best wishes to you from England.

@@SeanMcEvoy-h2p yep and worth every second we still have a couple of statues made from really hard black turf

You would handle it several times. When its back in the shed it still needs a full year to dry before burning it.

Nice video and International. Is it a 454?
Jaysus, that’s hardship. Who’d be bothered in 2024?
Real Men of course . Work means nothing to them. 💪💪🚜
Anyone who wants a little energy independence! Anyone who doesn't mind a bit of work, and of course anyone that wants to annoy Eamonn Ryan 😂
