@@DJRitty yeah kayfabe back then was really a thing, wrestlers had to maintain character on all public appearances and never could be seen with their main opponent.

THIS IS why he did such a great job in Rocky III! Because he truly was tough...but truly knew how to turn on a mean character that was hard to tell when he was acting due to his truly tough nature. But he was very loveable! He rules the 80's!!!
My favorite thing about watching the man in interviews as himself is every single time an interviewer asked him a question he starts off by saying “I’m so glad you brought that up”. Massive respect to this man.
You really never knew what was going to happen. Big stars did not want to go on his show back then because Dave did not play along. So he had to fill a lot of time on air. That is how Stupid Pet Tricks, etc. came about. Look at how many times he had the Amazing Kreskin on from '82 to '85...lol

I think so, if you look at his close up at the end, you can see an intense look of focus and concentration on his face like he's trying to stay in a moody state of mind but there's a very very slight hint of a smile wanting to get out and a facade.
I think the effects of his diet and the fears of getting hurt or embarrassed facing actual wrestlers made him a bit testier than usual. Glad Dave didn't get pasted.
Mr.T really was tired and annoyed but of course he was staying in character because he didn't want people calling wrestling and all the work and training involved as fake. So he had to keep up the annoyed attitude, which he only partly was. I think he liked Dave but couldn't of course let Dave step on his credibility either. An entertaining interview.
They played their parts perfectly! some of the timing was classic comedy!!......very funny......!! do you fish?...and the bad man look? well scripted!!...LOL
Mr T was brilliant! That guy was extremely smart to come up with all that and to keep it marketable in diff entertainment avenues for so long! People don’t get that!🥇🌅
How can God Make such a tough looking guy who does not like to be tough, make him funny and have such a great sense of humor with such wisdom,, I so love Mr.T your humble but take a complement. I love it when Gods plan comes together. Your Superman to me.
I like how honest he is. He didn`t understand the word Dave said and didn`t try to reply in a way that would make him look stupid like how Jennifer Garner looked as she tried to correct Conan
Mr. T looks like he wants to kill that heckler at no charge. Mr. T isn't what I'd call a villain in most roles, but I think he'd kick Darth Vader's ass! The force is with him.
MrT.is such a great guy and he's nothing like the characters he portrays. He's totally messing around here. He's a soft spoken man who is also very religious. But he keeps his religion to himself and has never tried to impose his beliefs on anyone. At the time that this interview was taking place Wrestling was a huge thing. And this bout was a major event in that world. There was all kinds of daily hype that went on and that's what Dave was talking about at the beginning of the interview
Fact: Mr T was not really putting on a fascade; he was known to be a tough guy in real life. He grew up in one of Chicago’s most notorious Robert Taylor Homes housing projects; a neighborhood where even the police were too afraid to go. He was in the us army as a military cop, he chopped down an entire forest with an axe by himself, he was the most notorious bouncer in the Chicago night club scene, and he really did hurt ppl. He win two tough man contests (which were televised). He was so good as a bouncer he went on to become a highly sought after personal bodyguard. And he was so good at that he was hired exclusively by A list celebrities. And THEN he starred in Rocky 3 after all that.
Correction: Actually, that IS Mr T being himself. But as I previously wrote, Letterman-- knowing the fringe behaviour Mr T would bring to the interview-- welcomed it, otherwise he wouldn't have asked him back.
Those are the eyes of a guy who wishes he was born into the upper classes with the opportunity to attend upper class universities and learn so he can make a difference in peoples lives... a true saint
Mr T was legit scared. I heard a Hulk Hogan interview with Hulk saying that T was scared of preforming in front of all those people live at Wrestlemania. T. almost no-showed the event. I believe in this interview he was out of his comfort zone.
I'm far from convinced that Mr T was acting in character, rather than simply being genuinely annoyed and hostile. He was a guest pastor at the church I go to, honest to God, I think it was father's day 2013 or something. I could not believe it!
Definitely acting in character. He did that the first interview, also. Except at the end of the first one he gave a big smile and bowed to the audience.
@@TheMichiganFisherman I didn't know that (he bowed to audience with smile). I assumed that since he only had those 2 appearances on Letterman, that Mr T didn't like Dave and it wasn't just for show.
