I love Acaster and I love House of Games but that week was hard to watch. It started on the first show when Sam said "I hoped you wouldnt get that one" and then when on a pairs set up with James she said "oh I forgot you were there".
You cannot be classed as an introvert if you regularly go on TV and stage doing jokes.

Sure you can, I work in sales where you have to cold call and be very chatty and do presentations to crowds but I'm an introvert and struggle socialising and shy outside of work. It's a performance we all do in our jobs just like James.

I can vividly picture James walking up to Ed and Nish with the broken trophy and then after James drunkenly explains Nish doing his brilliant scream laugh for the next 10 minutes. If I could have been there that day, I would give anything.
I feel so bad about that House of Games anecdote. I hope he gets to do a episode with other comedians, not some butthurt bores.
I wish there were more guys out there like Acaster. He seems so sweet, clever, introverted and amazingly weird. He deserves all the happiness in the world.

Another classic. Laughed like hell at his recounting of his appearance on House of Games... I remember watching it and thinking that something was definitely going on.
That was a great story and I saw it too, also thinking something was off. Anne Diamond has always been a bit full of herself IMO and this just highlighted it more.
Fun to hear the House of Games story. I remember watching it and thinking it so weird, that James obviously stopped playing in the fourth round.
Brilliant episode, best interview I've seen with James, he's generally 'always on', great to see him so laid back. One of my favourites!
This is a great interview. James looks to be in good spirits, and Rich is a better interviewer when he's not playing to a live audience at the same time.

2y later...: that is SO true about RH and the live audience. Loved Miles Jupp in his one, but RH was ... not so good.
Loved this! I was so sad for James that week on House of Games (I think the meanest lineup I've seen) as it brought back memories of school...the image of him smashing the trophy into lampposts was hilarious. 😂 I also enjoyed Richard giving us the entire recipe for Bella's Pudding whilst James sat politely. 😁
House of games story combined with all the classic scrapes just proves that world is a sitcom and James is the main character in it.
Well if that's the case, I'd like to speak to the producer about my role because I am not happy with it
This is a fantastic episode James seems far more comfortable with himself here and you can see he is realy at ease with Richard...very entertaining one of the best and I've seen the Brian Blessed one ...so

I was really disappointed with the Blessed episode. I wanted a conversation with Richard, not Brian just talking and talking and talking. His mannerisms and funny voice only go so far. A real let down. For me, anyways.
I came down here to say the same thing, I expected this to be much more like the Spicer pod. The exercising etc. must be doing the trick and it's great to see.

I would kill for a chance to be a fly on the wall when drunk James met up with Nish and Ed and for sure told them the story of Anne Diamond The Wanker.
Omg I feel so bad for him with the House of Games story, I wonder if Alex Horne knew about it before he went and did it because he was definitely holding back. Although you can tell a big part of it was Alex just feeling bad about being so much better than everyone else because he’s so nice :,)
I am just now finding the House of Games episodes with James and haerd about this podcast. I had already seen Alex's week, and even before this, I just kind of pictured Alex being more "embarrassed" about being far ahead and just kind of held back to prevent showing off. I would agree that it's possible Alex heard James' story, but I expect that was Alex's normal behavior to begin with.

@@MyChannel773 eh I don’t mind Rory in general I’d say there was more to it such as Anne complaining about all the other answers and sly remarks. He’s not the sharpest though.
@@TC-qw3lr that’s definitely fair - i watched the whole set of episodes a few years ago but when i tried to rewatch it recently i couldn’t get past the first (largely bc i found rory so irritating) so i’d totally forgotten how petty she gets later on

It was really obvious that James stopped trying on his House of Games week 😂 I don’t think he’s the only one either, a couple of other comedians definitely decided they didn’t want to win all 5 shows, such as Phill Jupitus.

Concerning HoG, I thought the producers asked him to pull back. Sad to hear the real story. I adore James. I’m getting to know Richard. He’s great.
I'd only recently seen that "week" of House of Games and how 'National Treasure Anne Diamond' had behaved on the show - it was nice to get some extra details filled-in after some brief mentions of it in the comments of episode 3 onwards

Really enjoyed that.
As a big fan of House of Games, I found that part of the conversation particularly interesting (and funny 😂). I've noticed on a few of the weeks that the male comedian who does well early on gets a harder time from the others than when other contestants dominate (such as Susan Calman). Most of it comes across as banter, and they seem to handle it fine, but I always thought James and Miles Jupp seemed to be the most surprised and affected by it and seemed to cut back on the right answers towards the end of the week, so it's no surprise to hear James confirm that regarding his week.
Very pathetic, and lack of self awareness, from Anne Diamond to petulantly tell James how unimportant it all was while, seemingly, taking the light hearted game far too seriously herself.

Always thought Rich and James have a really nice chemistry together. They seem to get on very well.
I could feel Acaster's pain through the screen on ROHOG. It was so cringe that I wanted to shake Osmand and be like "Are you oblivious?!", but Osmand seemed genuinely clueless, so I just watched in silence, shaking my head like a weirdo.
This has made my day. Nothing on the tele anymore. Thank you Richard. Save the arts 😊♥️

Weetabix is slightly modified version of Weet-Bix, which were created in Australia in the 1920s, and eventually brought to England by its Australian creator in 1932.
Kettering hasn't got much going for it, so we let them flex weetabix 😂

House of Games is indeed silly but it's still great for giving us a glimpse of a celebrity's general intelligence. I was surprised by Amol Rajan doing badly, I'd always thought he was an intelligent chap. Actually, now that I come to think of it there were quite a few journalists who were rather slow-witted.
Weakest link was good for that too. Someone was asked what is the name of the ancient hill citadel in Athens upon which sits the Parthenon? They answered "The apocalypse" :)
I wouldn't say it's about general intelligence, although there is obviously a degree of that. To me, it's more about lateral thinking, thinking outside the box and that sort of thing.
@@lwaves Mmm, yeah, I'd go along with that, but I think it's more logic than lateral thinking (as I understand that term). I reckon the people who do badly in House of Games also do badly in mathematics.

Re own brand Wheetabix - the same is true of essentially all own brand food stuffs. One of my former clients was a company involved in the packaging of own brands, and all were the originals just dispatched to this place to be packaged differently.

Love that the bible audiobook would be such a mess bc, arguably, most of it would be a booming ethereal godly voice narrating that bad boy and then a bunch of old timey men would jump in to talk about the random shit they tacked on out of nowhere at certain points and it would be very hard to listen to

James is very different when in character and he was for most of Taskmaster. Although the anger at Rhod Gilbert was definitely real. :-D
Personally, I love the man, whatever he does. One of the most gifted stand-ups of his generation, too. His Netflix shows are special. But I do appreciate his style may not be for everyone.
James definitely plays a character on tv and during his stand up and personally I love that character but he could seem a bit annoying I guess. I think everyone agrees he is lovely out of character though
