    Rich has found the mother of all stones and is banging on about that as usual (don’t worry he will syphon this off into a podcast you don’t have to listen to soon). His guest is RHLSTP super fan and fly in the ointment Joe Lycett.
    They discuss the beauty of being allowed to be silly in a serious world, whether Tom Daley should be sponsored to go to Pride, the Daily Express making mountains out of molehills, how a TV chef did not appreciate a joke about chicken jerk and how envy can eat you up and how age can soften its grip. We also learn about Joe’s new projects, including the Great British Sewing Bee, and hear from Esme, one of the judges of that show, who is in our front row and is rather well refreshed after a day out with Joe.

    This is so much like watching a young man visit his elderly father in a retirement home and having a nice long heart-to-heart chat while he still has the chance, pretty heartwarming stuff really.

    Bless him - Buddhist doesn't teach 'nothingness'...that would be pointless! Buddhist explains the 'lack of' inherently existent things. Meaning, things do exist BUT not in the way that they appear (as fixed, solid, unchanging and depending on nothing for their existence) Things exist in dependance upon the mind that imputes them...(Which is just intellectual until you get actual experience of the meaning of that in your heart, in meditation!)

    • @charliepotter100
      @charliepotter100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I don't think there's any need to be so patronising. He said that Buddhists believe that there's no self - which as far as I understand is true. He did say it as if that was the same as the idea of the existence of nothingness, which is obviously a confused conflation, but the difficulty of the metaphysics of nothingness is a perfectly legitimate and interesting question in itself (Nicholas Waghorn's book on that is really interesting). I think given how difficult these questions are to state accurately, and that it was a pretty off the cuff remark, it's a bit silly to pick him up on it.

      @@jopar3292 NO. I am sorry, I over-reacted. I spend way too much time being bored on the internet. There's just something about that phrase 'bless him' that triggers me. • @jopar3292
      @jopar3292 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@charliepotter100 :D - Now I read it back - I can see what you mean! The internet is a great place to overreact too!. Im always doing it - What personally triggers me is Americans always pronouncing their letter O's as A !? Like StOlingrad (: - Its difficult to talk about Buddhist beliefs because they are like a big puzzle - One piece depends upon and is linked to other pieces. Getting one piece out of context just makes it all the more confusing and unbelievable. Anyway - Buddha's teachings on the mind are mind blowing (pun intended) For example the Buddhist definition of mind .... "Mind is a formless continuum, clear like space but that functions, & has the power to know or perceive things" !! Mind itself is Not a process of a physical cause and so at the time of death, when the link between the body of this life and the mind ends, the conciousnouss leaves the physical body and shortly enters another body . Karma or cause & effect (in English) is also very interesting - The motivation & intention of ones actions of body, speech or mind leave imprints or seed like impressions on the concioussnouss. Later when certain causes and conditions come together these seeds ripen as experiences - negative actions leading to suffering results and wholesome actions leading to pleasant or fortunate results. Whether someone believes in karma or not Im sure you can appreciate that that belief and the meaning of what mind is, forms the basis of a potentially very wholesome and good hearted life. Anyway, again, sorry, its hard to write about such things without sounding a bit preachy or know-it-all? I very much agree with you - there are so many interesting topics out there. An open mind and heart can appreciate and take in so much. That old adage is so true - The more I know, the more I realise I don't know !! :) And to be honest, I find its not difficult to know many things but to actually put them into practice...whole different ball game. Still, its a good life trying to

    I love Joe Lycett but this was borderline unwatchable with that annoying woman in the audience.

    Knees & elbows ARE flawed. First of all, there's nothing "funny" about hitting your funny bone. Furthermore, our knees and elbows only bend the one way, and what even is the good of THAT I ask you Evolution ~ ?

    I really like Joe's work, but his phoney accent, and the fact that he mocks his fellow Brummies because they are not pretentious enough to affect RP, is wearing thin. We get it Joe... you are better than us, you snob. At least when Stewart Lee does it it is done with some affection.

    that James Acaster he's something funny...huh? what? joe lycett, there's a 'J' in the first name and a 'C' in the last name, they're both very unusual, and their last names are too. What? Sorry. funny really is a skill but you can't get good unless you practice. TY for your Thyme
