I'm in love! I thought vervet babies were cute, but baboon babies give them a run for their money. Nah, I can't say I love one over the other. They are both adorable and so fun to watch!! Vervet monkeys however, stay cute as they get older.
I LOVE both Vervet Foundation and C.A.R.E, that said, I REALLY appreciate that Vervet doesn't "force" or "rush" their babies into the troops. I SO believe that the babies integrate well, when THEY are ready, as is evidenced by what Kyle has shown us across all these episodes! THANK YOU Kyle and Vervet team for allowing your babies to integrate when THEY are ready!!
Everyone is watching Area 51 raids and I'm like, hells yes, more baby BABOONS!!! Eliana is so beautiful. And I was really impressed at her love for ONIONS, of all things!! Keep up the great work, Kyle. We all appreciate it. 💜🐒💜
I think it is absolutely wonderful you posting regarding C.A.R.E. Thank you for helping us get to know more about the animals there and so many that help out!!!!!! God Bless all of you
Are they averse to using the term "kidnap" ? Kidnapping babies from mothers is extremely common among primates. In fact, it's so common that many species of monkey utilize the practice to teach teenager monkeys (monkeys on the verge of becoming fertile) how to handle & raise babies. It's also used as a form of babysitting; some mothers will allow their child to get kidnapped so they can have a break from their baby and catch up on grooming, foraging, mating, etc. You don't really see kidnapping (relatively speaking - it still happens but less frequently) among apes. Or Vervets
Higher ranking females will steal lower ranking babies if they have not had their baby first, they also have a creche whereby one mother will look after a few babies while the others take a break
The baby baboons are so cute! They tend to get not as cute, however, as they grow up. That is not to say that I don't like the adults because I do it's just they are not so 'cute' anymore!
I’ve loved this look into CARE. do you ever think about volunteering there and following a baby baboons day to day like you’ve done at the vervet monkey foundation?
Nah. I'm not really into the whole volunteering scene anymore. I enjoy my personal life too much. Plus baby season is coming up here soon and I'm gonna have my hands full!
@@VervetMonkey old comment i know but after reading about volunteering it really does take folks making a huge sacrifice and having the time and support to do so. For my family id love to take my kids, when they're both the appropriate ages, to spend a week volunteering somewhere. It could change their career influences, at the very least its a huge learning experience, that gives back to the animals. Thank you all for all that you do
Years ago, I saw a show on Animal Planet about a baboon rescue run by an older woman. The volunteers had the orphaned baboons 24/7 and even slept with them. Was that Rita by any chance? The show didn't go into the background of how the lady started her rescue program, but she was very protective of all her baboons.
Great video Kyle. Did you sneak that Vervet in??? LOL Oreo is growing into those ears and looking like he's going to be so happy with his mom. With those attempted flips or cartwheels, I think Oreo is going to be a lovable Goof!!! I can imagine the antics once the 3 orphans reunite in the troop! Will there be any future updates?
Probably will do one more once Oreo is out in the troop with his mom. Actually Oreo and Mandela are in different troops, not sure about Eliana just yet.
Have you noticed any distinct differences in how CARE prepares the baby Baboons for introduction to their adoptive moms compared to the methods you have used at the VMF? Have you seen any techniques you may try with the Vervets?
Eh, not really. To be honest, CARE took most of what they do from the VMF and then modified it for baboons. But the VMF has been perfecting their system for about 15 years. CARE has been doing it this way for about 5ish. But also Baboons are pretty different than Vervets in a lot of ways, so other than the format of the foster program itself there isn't much that can really be copied over.
@@VervetMonkey Hey Kyle. I know in the past you have expressed an interest in doing a documentary film about the Macaque Monkeys in Angkor Wat Temple Complex in Cambodia. Something very unusual just happened to one of the troops there. I don't know all the facts but I have read that apparently because some tourists had been bitten a government organization that is supposed to be there to protect the monkeys went in and took almost all the adult males and females from the " Mila " troop. However they did nit take the babies and the juveniles of which there are about 20 or so. So now there is a troop of just a few adults and huge amount of babies and juveniles. It is sad to see them all cooing to alert their moms who they will never see again. They do seem to be foraging and eating from what video I have seen. Some of the VO are giving them extra food to live on. Navy Flow and his wife Konthea have always been very kind to the monkeys there. Just thought you would like to see this. th-cam.com/video/dEnwE4-whhA/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/RAzlRY_pxc8/w-d-xo.html It's like the book " Lord of the Flies ". It will be interesting to see how this troop develops with so few adults. I hope they will not be killed off by larger troops nearby.
@@VervetMonkey Thsi follow up video of the orphan macaque babies and juveniles is interesting Kyle. There is one young adult female named Caca who has adopted two babies and one is also riding her back sometimes just like Mrs Gold at the VMF. th-cam.com/video/ULidePzz1-k/w-d-xo.html The juveniles are helping out trying to comfort the babies who are still cooing to call to their lost moms. They are hugging the babies and also taking turns carrying them. I hope they move to another location soon because the adults left in the troop are trying to carry them up the temple walls for safety. Sorry to say they are probably running away from all the VO trying to film them. On the positive side Navy Flow and his wife have been bringing the babies much needed extra fruit to eat. Tiny Baby Lizza is my favorite in this troop and she fell from high on the wall when Caca was carrying 2 babies but fortunately she fel on soft grass and was ok.
Is it cold in the place where Oreo and his foster mom is? The lady telling what happened at their foster intro is clutching the cuff of her sweatshirt in her hand. So I'm wondering if it's a cold time of the year at the time this video was made and how it impacts the baboons...who are adorable, of course.

Kyle, Does C.A.R.E have feeding cages for the babies once they are out in the troops, like Vervet does? If not, how do the babies get their milk for their first year?
No feeding cages. People just bring the bottle to the fence. Baboons are way way smarter than Vervets. So even the moms know its important to bring the babies over. You can see in the tour video I did on CARE that they had trouble getting a baby to come to the fence to drink so they made milk balls.
The young one was comfort sucking not suckling to eat. So bottle nipple just had to be available if she wanted to put it in her mouth. Think human baby and pacifier/ sucking thumb!
Does these moms get pregnant?, or are they fixed.? Have they lost a baby? Baboons and Vervet Monkeys seem more loving than the Maquaces = not spelled correct. There is a few that will take on an orphan, like one I am watching in the Wildlife Alliance forest she had a baby, and took in a baby 8 or 10 days older she has raised it with her baby.
