  • Baboons love babies - you can see it in the way the mothers carry their newborns around like royalty. But the cold reality is that their rank at birth will always determine how well they're treated within the troop.

      Not all human societies have a caste system.
      Indians have a caste system. We, Sri Lankans, had caste systems a long time ago when we were ruled by the kings. But still, the Tamils in Sri Lanka have a caste system. Not among the ones in the city. But among the ones living in the North.

      Early hunter gatherer societies were actually egalitarian. Early agrarian settlements Such as Catalhayuk were as well. U saw this type of thing in Iroquois Indian societies as well
      So human societies were not always based on Social hierarchies.
      With the agricultural revolution there was a move towards social stratification.

    Macaques have some pretty vicious kidnappers. I've seen the kidnappers throwing around and dragging the baby so roughly. Then running away from mom to give back. The mom generally follows real close until either the kidnapper loses interest or they're caught slipping and mom scoops up real fast. It's hard to watch when the babies who are nursing all the time are held captive for hours not being able to feed. They get weak fast.

    It's interesting that the 8yr old son is allowed to stay with the troop at his age. I wonder how they avoid inbreeding? Macaque males are forced to leave their natal group when puberty hits around 4yrs old to avoid inbreeding; I would've thought baboons would have a similar practice.

    • @kiki29073
      @kiki29073 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well, he isn't fully grown. His canines aren't in so he probably isn't sexually mature yet. They grow and mature slower than macaques apparently. Male lacs are mature between 4-5. So, they leave or are forced to leave the troop when that starts. It may be the same with baboons but the males are with their maternal family longer because they mature at an older age.

    Interesting how millions of years of evolution created these instincts for survival.

    Baboon babies are the cutest monkeys out of all the monkey species in my opinion!

      👏🏼 Nobody can knock you for your opinion. I think baboon babies are cute but once they’re older you can forget about it lol I think stump tailed babies are the most unappealing monkeys I’ve ever seen. I’ve fallen in love with the pigtail babies here on TH-cam , i can’t get over their cuteness ❤

    You are trying to attach human feelings to emotionless animals. Stop it! They only stay near each other for safety, if they were on their own, they would be victims to other predators. They don't love their babies; they are simply trying to keep it alive because it ensures the continuation of the troop into the future. You need to stop trying to see human emotions in emotionless animals.
