Cinderella is an underrated princess and it irks me when people misrepresent her thinking that she just sat around waiting for a prince to come and rescue her when she was one of the hardest working heroines and didn't go to the ball to meet a prince, but just to have a night out and wasn't even aware she danced with the prince until the next morning.

When Lady Tremain approached Cinderella in her pink dress, her look of fear and shrinking back has made people question if Cinderella was beaten as a child, especially since the narrator in the beginning admitted that she was abused before she became a maid in her own house.

I always loved Cinderella because I also grew up with a lot of abuse and bullying in my childhood and she proves that it does get better if you take a good approach in overcoming hardship. She represents how powerful you can be when you choose to remain kind and nurturing instead of turning bitter and resentful because of your misfortunes. It’s disappointing to me how her strength is often minimized today and her story is reduced to simply waiting for a Prince to save her. That she isn’t a “strong woman” because she’s gentle and doesn’t save herself when in fact she does. She paved the way for her happy ending with her kindness, patience, and work ethic. Her mice friends, the fairy godmother, and the Prince were all drawn to her because of her loving and positive energy. I always saw Cinderella’s story as a great example of how karma works, and a reminder to never lose faith no matter how hopeless things might seem. Even all these years later Cinderella remains one of Disney’s most powerful and beautiful stories 💙

The dress color for Cinderella is probably my favorite argument to have with my girlfriend. When we’re playing Kingdom Hearts, the character model uses the silver color, and it threw her off. And when I said it was the original color it turns into a whole thing. But yeah it’s silver. Also she’s originally a strawberry blonde, but the merch and parks make her yellow blonde.

Ben matched my thoughts exactly, wondering how "Octavius" gets shortened to "Gus." His thoughts led me to an idea that I then found had already been thought of on a Disney Wiki. In Roman times, Octavius Caesar took the name Augustus when he became Emperor. So that's a classical connection between the names!

We really need to consider the time period Cinderella lived in. People used to say all the time that she just waited for her knight in shinging armor to come get her, but as somebody who was a victim of domestic violence most of her life, it was even HARDER for her to leave back then, as resources were pretty much nonexistent. Not to the mention the Tremaines squandered the fortune that was rightfully hers, so she had no money whatsoever. They kept her isolated so she doesnt know anybody. And there were no shelters . So Cinderella being hopeful for a better future was really all she COULD do. Im glad people in general are being less critical of her.

I think the reason why Disney didn’t market Cinderella in her silver dress is because it’s similar to a wedding dress. The song the mice sing was originally going to be sung by Cinderella as she imagines herself multiplying to get all the chores done. Instead of So this is Love it was going to be Dancing on a cloud as Walt always wanted a scene where the princesses dance in the clouds but that eventually worked in sleeping beauty. The concept art for Dancing on a Cloud goes beautifully with the original demo recording

I think you're absolutely right that Lady Tremaine is one of the more upsetting Disney villains, like Frollo, because she operates on a relatable human level like someone we might know. I would also put Mother Gothel in this category; she knows how to work a specific spell, but she herself isn't magical -- she controls Rapunzel through all-too-real psychological abuse and manipulation.

I was a hater or a disliker of this movie for ages but as the years have gone by, I've noticed the bits of shade Cinderella gives the stepsisters and the look on Cinderella's face when she says "I have the other slipper" is made so much more effective since she's not a kick butt Cinderella all along. Also the sisters ripping up her dress is just as traumatizing to me as Triton destroying Ariel's treasure cave.

I’ve been waiting for this video!!! Cinderella 1950 is my 4th favourite Disney movie. I think people don’t appreciate it enough. To me Cinderella is stronger than people give her credit for. I mean she lost both parents at a young age and the narrator said she was straight up abused as well as being made a servant. Yet she keeps her kindness and will stand up for herself like when she said she had every right to go to the ball. And I think that’s why the dress ripping scene was so shocking. She made a deal and kept her end but the stepmother just could not see her be happy so literally ripped her dreams apart.
Also fun fact I believe it was Walt’s idea to have “a dream is a wish your heart makes” playing in the background as she’s crying in the garden. It was to symbolise how even though she’s telling herself not to believe but her heart is fighting back that the chorus gets louder eventually manifesting the fairy godmother. Reading that really makes that scene more powerful

Makes more sense than "Octavius" 😂
And speaking translation from the original fairy tale, Cinderella doesnt wear a "glass slipper" but a "fur slipper"
It's because "verre" (glass) and "vaire" (squirrel fur) are spelled almost the same, but the translation missed that so we got a glass slipper in the end😂

I have to say this because I LOVE Betty Lou Gerson: People loved her iconic voice (finishing school Transatlantic-infused with undertones of the deep South) and it was arguably her biggest asset to her success, but her first husband would tease her about her accent saying "either stay in Northeast America or go over to Great Britain, but don't stay in the middle with Dixie on your tail!"

Hi, First time viewer here! 👋🏽
    TRIGGER WARNING ⚠️
Just wanted to say @ 13:03 - everybody asks this question at one point or another, and I think it’s totally valid. I think we, in our day and age, are very lucky to live in a world where we think, “it’s possible to move out it’s possible to do something about your situation.” And that’s a really great thing, but I hope you’ll bear this in mind…
Cinderella‘s father left this mortal coil when Cinderella was (maybe) 10 years old, and left her in the hands of her only guardian who does not care about Cinderella‘s happiness or well-being. When we first hear Cinderella sing about a dream as a wish, she’s 19 that means for nine years, the cycle of ab*use was a regular part of Cinderella’s life. The stepmother has done exactly what ab*sers do: she mistreats, lies to, and manipulates Cinderella into believing she deserves this, this is her life, this is all her life will ever be- to serve the family. Not *her* family, THE family (meaning, not including Cinderella herself as a part of that family) the reason she doesn’t leave, is because that’s how domestic ab*se works. The victim believes there is nothing for them without the ab*ser. And that’s why the film presents the stepmother‘s room as a prison, it’s a prison in her mind made real (on the opposite side, the glass slipper (which could not exist in real life) is an object of her dreams made real).
Honestly, would love to discuss it further! Cheers ✌🏽

6:42 To answer your question here, the reason why Gus is short for Octavius is because it's an inside joke among the writers knowing about the following fact, which I could consider it as a "Believe It or Not" kind of fact:
Believe It or Not; In ancient Rome, a man named Gaius Julius Caesar Octavius had his family name changed to Augustus when he became the very 1st emperor of Rome from 27 BC until his death in 14 AD.

And Aurora's dress is sleeping beauty is darker blue - I don't care if the dress turned back to pink before the book closed, her dress was blue when she was put under the curse, it's officially blue.
The Disney Princess merchandise get Cinderella and Aurora's hair wrong as well as their dress colours - Cinderella has a darker shade of blonde than she does in the merchandise and Aurora has a lighter shade of blonde than she does in the merchandise.

The mice scenanigans actually further the plot : 1 ) Gus-gus is presented as the new comer that is also a bit cocky , trying to confront Lucifer when first seeing him . Him being oblivious to the danger leads Lucifer to chase him and trap him under a tea cup, said tea cup ends up in Anastasia's room leading to the infamous scene of the stepmother reprimanding Cinderella ( plus, Cinderella was running like crazy getting everything read while they yelled at her ,so how could she had paid attention to the mouse under the teacup . The cat and mouse scene leads directly to the confrontation scene , without one cannon exist the other ).
    2) Cinderella tries to make the dress but she's put to work , leading the mice to lament how overworked she is leading them to the conclusion that THEY'LL make the dress for her . Zack and Guss go to find accessories and we see Cinderella being overworked,we see how ungrateful the sisters are when they discard their own stuff which the mice try to collect for the dress while putting their lives on the line for the shake of Cinderella's happiness. When Cinderella informs the Stepmother that the carriage has arrived Lasy Tremaine says "But Cinderella, you're not ready child ?" ( I love that she calls her "child" as If to emply that she thinks her as part of the family ) and Cinderella with a Stoic face says she's not going and the stepmother feels like she won. Cinderella tries to gaslight herself into believing that she doesn't care but admits she does , then the mice come to her rescue revealing the dress. The stepmother gets shocked but keeps her cool, drawing attention to the stepsister's items present on the dress , leading them to attack " You little thief, they're MY BEADS ,GIVE THEM HERE ... " ,all the while the stepmother watches with satisfaction and technically being true to her word " find something suitable to wear ... Oh you DON'T have ... Pity,😏ah well ,I kept my part of the deal so I'm not at fault " leaves Cinderella in a devastated state ... 3 )
At the end the mice get her out of her bedroom ( side note : at the beggining of the movie as you mentioned Cinderella says to Bruno to get reed of those dreams, reflecting her mindset at the time of obey for the shake of survival, but at the end she's like
" screw that, tear dat pussy appart 😂😂😂😂 " showing how she takes advantage of the opportunities that come her way and doesn't back down. Also , love how the movie is about dream fulfillment and both Cinderella AND Bruno get their dreams come true, such a nice touch ) If you were to cut these scenes off the plot wouldn't work as well ,try it, watch the film but skip these scenes , there's a lack of information that messes up the plot ... I love how repetition is used , both the dress and shoes fitting scenes have similar pacing : Cinderella gets her hopes high ,The stepmother intervenes and temporarily thinks she won and has put Cinderella in a bad mindset .Then the mice come to her rescue and Cinderella seems to be winning, but at the last second the stepmother interferes turning things in her favour, and despite that Cinderella manages to triumph both times .
Very nice video, keep up the good work my friends ❤

14:02 I wonder sometimes if the kings mind isn't starting to go......would add to the urgency of his son needing to get married and have children of his own. Back in the day Disney wasn’t lazy. They’re lazy today with their remakes.
You have to remember back in the day people didn’t need to be constantly stimulated. You could have more basic moments and moments of quiet.

Regardless of the colour of her dress, can we just take a moment to appreciate not only the detail given to the hand drawing (yess, we all know that there is skill in computer animation as well because there are definitely weaker examples of it) of the dress, but also to the movement of the dress, it actually does look like fabric.
And I still say there's more detail to it than Belle's dress movement in beauty and the beast (please, no one try to skin me alive for saying that).

Probably the 2nd movie that saved Disney studios after Dumbo. After Fantasia and Pinocchio initially disappointed at the box office and Bambi being so expensive (and also disappointing at the box office) Disney wouldn't have survived the war without the success of Dumbo, pretty lucky it was released only about a month before Pearl Harbor. I guess the debate as to the 3rd one that saved Disney animation would either be 101 Dalmatians or The Great Mouse Detective. Probably the latter because Disney animation wasn't in as dire straits after Sleeping Beauty initially bombed than The Black Cauldron

To me, Cinderella is in the Worth Watching Tier, but it's the 1st good one since Fantasia, I know it might be an unpopular opinion, but I couldn't get into Dumbo or Bambi, which are movies I put in the Not Terrible, but Below Average Tier, but I've stated my opinion about the Package Film era, and those ones were in my Terrible Tier, except the Mr. Toad and Ichabod is in the Below Average one, but still bad.

I get the uncomfortableness with cinderella wanting to leave and they're chasing her down. But remember the king wanted the prince to propose that night. And if something goes wrong, he'd have duke's head. The duke feared for his life and thought the best thing to do was to bring her back. It makes sense story wise, but i can see why yall were a bit uncomfortable with it.
