❤❤❤ This song! Who’s watching in 2023? Beautiful song and lyrics! Great job J D ‼️‼️‼️
Still 2024 and I Will keep on listening when I pass 😊
Still listening. Legenderay
Listen Kids! real singer, real musicians, great song,
not todays crap!
JD was an integral part of the southern California music scene with Eagles, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, Bonnie Raitt...what a great time in music!
His harmony with Linda in "Prisoner of Disguise" gets me every time.
His and James "Her town too"
And Faithless Love
And Joni Mitchell
Don’t forget Bob Segar
If you are here it's because have great taste ✌️❤️
Most singers are afraid to go for the high note live. He didn’t hesitate. Awesome voice and song.
Well Yeah
JD was the songwriter of songwriters.... NEVER given enough credit for his contributions and talent... a Titan who most people don't know.
You are so right! He has not got the credit he definitely deserves.
Best lookin pair of jeans I’ve seen in a long time. And that song…well, it melts my heart.
You know that's right ✅️ 💯 😍❤️❤️❤️
Was thinking the same!! ❤
@@carienblancher3869 Thought the same thing...both the song and the guy melts your heart. What a song writer
Seventies music was the best decade! I’m so lucky to have been there....
I totally agree with you
No doubt about it! Rock On!!! 🎸🎹🎶🎤🎶🎙🎸😉
Im 42 old years, but i like that music!
Exactly
What is one of my favorite song s. Cause we all have been lonely
Always chokes me up
I was at farm aid in 86 and it was awesome. I was 16 and had just got my license, farm aid is only a hour from my house every year
This man is an unsung hero of 70s rock. Such a beautiful voice and liquid style. He deserved to be recognized more as the exceptional singer that he was and is. He had an effortless, clear voice that was very much reminiscent of his influence, Roy Orbison. It all just goes to show that if you choose your heroes carefully, you can be positively influenced by their work and produce truly great work of your own.
He's still out there, and by all accounts he still has it.
Voice of a angil
How many remember Souther Hillman Furay band? JD and Chris from the Byrds and Richie from Poco??? They were all awesome and underrated.
@@tcsmith9924 all 3 are really good. Souther-wrote some good songs & good singer, Hillman is a helluva multi instrumentalist, and Furay's singing blows my mind
@@tcsmith9924 1 thing; JD was never w the Byrds. He wrote several songs the eagles covered, wrote a few for ronstadt and produced some albums. Good musician
John David Souther has one of the greatest voices ever!
What a pity the sound people stuffed up JD Souther still sang perfectly I Love this clip so raw & Magnificent!
Mary May its not the “sound people” its the air out door concert! Moves the sound around. Have you not heard of the speed of sound??
Should have been the fifth Eagle.
J.D. is a great talent, Master Musician
Greatvice... almost a goods Orbison who's his idol
Roy Orbison would be proud of this voice..
When this song came out I thought J.D. Souther was copying the feel and sort of even the title of Roy Orbison's Only the Lonely. Then I watched A Black and White Night and learned J.D. is a huge admirer of Roy. This song was a tribute to Roy. Then I learned J.D. had written and co-written a ton of songs that were hits for others. Soft-spoken Southern gentleman who won't carry tales about musicians and others he knew back in the wild '70s. Cute too.
How can someone dislike this? This song is great!
I'm just glad this one actually has an ending, instead of slowly fading out like all the other versions of this song. The quality also isn't that good, which you can expect from 70s/80s. It also appeared to be windy, which affected the sound quality.
I absolutely love his voice and this song it's helping me through a very difficult time in my life.thank you j.d. souther
Always love his singing and this song. Would love him to do one of my songs that I wrote. On you tube
@debbiekurz5342 If you haven't heard him sing 'Faded Love', it's incredible!!
Lovely song
I think I could drown in his eyes
I think I'm in love with him
It’s 2022, and this song is still iconic; and those stonewashed jeans look damn fine on JDS!! ❤
Lisa, here were my thoughts:
"Gee, the drummer's pretty cute. And then: "Boy, Souther's rear looks great in those jeans ...😅
Yep..they certainly do! Lol🤣😁
Thought the same. I'm 66 but I'm not dead!
Yep, when he turned to speak with the drummer, I realized I had an unexpected smile on my face...nice jeans...lol😉 😊🎶♥
His voice still sounds amazing! Even after all these years.
This was in the 80’s. The imperfections are what make these live performances so great. Not all music needs to be digitally remastered, like today’s pop artists.
J.D.Souther, the only logical singer for the Eagles if they ever tour again!
Oh My Goodness ! I have watched this dozens of times and it just keeps getting better ...
If You ever read this JD Souther ? I want You to know that I absolutely love You and I enjoy Your music so much 🥰
You are one of the best performers ever ❤️🎤🎸💯
My God, this man had the voice of an angel…I would die a thousand times to have that vocal sweetness. Alas…I was blessed with a barrel-chest and a foghorn. Sad shame that anyone that sings this beautifully should have to deal with an inferior stage sound like this. My favorite Souther tune of all is "New Kid In Town." His influence can be felt, as well as heard, in many Eagles hits. I dare say he may have been the unsung hero of the band. "Best of My Love," "Doolin-Dalton," "New Kid In Town," "Victim Of Love," "How Long," to name a few. Make sure to read "Heaven & Hell" by Don Felder to get the lowdown on just how important JD was to The Eagles huge success.
The Eagles tried to get him to join them but he said it that many guitars in front just wouldn't be right among other things.
You may have a foghorn, but you write well. My mother heard this in the grocery store and it stopped her in her tracks. She said she doesn't remember it. When it came out she was working and taking care of two kids. She didn't take any time for herself and I guess she missed some good music. Makes me sad to think about. I hope she listens to all the music she wants now.
Did he write New Kid In Town? It sure sounds like it would come from him..wow what a voice!!!! NKIT was my favorite Eagles song.
GREAT Song!!
J.D. Souther is a Great Artist.
Sorely Need More like him Today.
You are so right, music today is AWFUL.. exactly why I listen to all my old LP's and CD''s...no radio!
This song is solidly in my Top 10 of all time.
Love this song the Man can sing.
Great song! What a voice, he deseves more credit for sure!!
J.D.s vocals just soar.......woooooooooooohooooo gorgeous sound healing thank you
One of the greatest things about the song.... his voice....
1 helluva a performance !
A beautiful man who writes beautiful songs😍

His many beautiful, poetic and melodic songs earned him his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame where he belongs. HIs voice has improved with age and in his early 70s, he is a true crooner. Truly the "6th Eagle" who helped propel them to stardom in the 70s as co-writer of many of their first decade of hits.
Absolutely stunningly sexy and then creates music like this...my heart be still
I love that guy..and his Levi's lol...whoooooo
I have only watched this a thousand times 😁
I just absolutely love You JD Souther 💋
smooth voice,jd souther, and he really knows how to hit those high notes, and live fantastic
I've always liked this song a lot but this was the first live performance of it that I've seen. Talk about pressing on thru adversity!! As bad as the sound was, Souther actually got better and better as the song progressed. Really impressive vocals in the latter parts of the song.
Chris L Agree!....and I like how you worded it..."talk about pressing on thru adversity!"....his voice did get better and better!.......love JD Souther.
The Great "Non-Orbison" song! Gorgeous...
Love this song ❤
Love J. D. ❤
❤❤❤❤
they don,t make music like this anymore, great song
They do. They just reside on Spotify abt TH-cam instead of on the charts
I was amazed that some of the kids today prefer the music of the '70s and '80s to the music of today
J.D. is being a pro despite an inept soundman.
Absolutely. Someone please shoot that tool!!!
it's obviously the wind blowing the sound around .. happens all the time at outdoor concerts
This song touches my heart. Love J.D.
He's a stud ,,,one of my favorites...
Just the best beautiful song and voice 🦋🦋
i was in this concert.....wanna cry .. for 30 years,, the old times
+Alan Tung I had surgery last summer. I was out on a rare venture. This song was playing, and I burst into tears immediately. Spell binding, I might say.
+Alan TungThe years sure have gone by fast haven't they Alan. Im 63 and was still young man living on the beach in Seal Beach Ca during 1980's.....Some of the best years of my life 77-87....
Britta Evans Glad too hear that you pass those hardship man. heart-touched song indeed.
***** Time flies and we havent prepared for that yet, but thats how life goes. I just cant help but become more nostalgic.
I like JD. His soft voice, country rock style music .
Always loved this song. This performance? Simply...WOW.
JD has a great ear--always on pitch. Also great range and tone. Like good wine, he's only gotten better with age.
Love this song, what a great voice!
To me this is a perfect song by a great singer JD Souther! One of my all time favorite songs.
Still love his voice!
Even though it was 1986, but it's just awesome to see the Original singing this cool tune, raw singing and performance here from JD Souther and the rest of the band. Always, always love this tune since the first time our local radio station here in Southern California area started playing this 4 to 5 times a day in the days of yesterdays ago! But those yesterdays were not forgotten! This tune's always will be in my heart and some! Thanks a million J.D. Souther for penning this awesome, magnificent tune! You have "everything" in this song! That Oh, Oh, Oh, Whoa, Whoaa, Ohhh... My, My, My!!!... at the ending of the song from J.D. is beautiful to watch!!! Much love!!!! 🙂😍🤩😘
If he can sound this good in those conditions you can just imagine how he sounds in a studio or on a stage inside with a good sound system.
This is the only authentic live footage I've been able to locate of J.D. doing this so far.
somewhere I have a bootleg of JD and Linda.... will try to locate it. A show in Lubbock TX
What s great live performance! God bless J.D. Souther for this song. A song fir all to relate to. 🥰🎸😎✌️
I love this song, I am going to explore more of J.D's live performances, I always thought he was a really good artist, but he's amazing live.💖
OMG!! Awesome! Can't get enough of this astounding live performance of a gifted, exceptionally talented singer! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Great song. Great singer. Have you ever noticed that the bass player in many bands has the coolest job of all? I've been a drummer all my 40 plus years in the business and I've often marveled at how cool a bass player is. He or she just stands there swaying to the music knowing the without him or her there is no song. The bass player IS the foundation to any and every song in my estimation.
Absolutely!
Dream On !
Yes, but it's a pity i never can't hear the bass trough my cheapo laptop speakers
Well spoken Austin. The rhythm section carries the whole song, rhythm sections purpose is to make the accompanying musicians look there best. I'm a bass player and I always try to keep that in mind and lock in with the drummer
But in a cover band you can’t be great without a great drummer and I’m a guitar player. Been there tried that. It’s so obvious when the drummer sucks, no syncopation, killing the high hat, might as well pack it up and advertise again.
Brilliant/Beautiful & Just a Breathtaking Song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don’t feel lonely now. Thankyou❤️🇨🇦✌️
What a damn good song. 👍👍
Magnificent Masterpiece, very beautiful piece of music
One of the greatest love songs ever...!
Great performance JD!!!
Over 3 decades as an Army Medic, Nurse, Paramedic and Medical Student ... loneliness is worse than cancer, ice, smack, ALS/MND ... just sayin'.
Beautiful song. They don't write them like that anymore. (or lately anyway.)
what a Voice!!! Tears in My Eyes....
Love love love this song ❤!!
I had such a crush on him!
1986年か…あの頃が蘇るよ
Fantastic JD Souther ❤️ 💙 💜.
One of my favorite songs ever
by J D Southern. Perfection. ❤️
Just love his music I play that song often.
John David Souther, of all the GREAT performances a person can access on TH-cam, there is nothing that blows me away as much as your live '86 Farm Aid performance.
With an idiot for a sound engineer. man, how you shined. I love watching the boys in your pickup band smile at you, acknowledging greatness, leading up to that magnificent second octave ending . With Glenn Frey gone, and with all the Eagles' songs you either wrote, or co-wrote through the years, you are the only replacement, if they ever tour again.
Its the wind not the sound engineer. Have u ever been to outdoor concerts?? Wind carries the sound, especially if its very windy
He wrote a lot of songs with/ for the Eagles, Jackson Browne, etc.
oh my word! he is SO talented, yet holds his head so low. He has my hugs, moral support and kudos. God bless you JD Souther!
Love This song. His voice everything about JD Souther. Those high notes! Awesome
and i totally agree!!!!!
Love this song, his unique voice, and darn, he is so cute.
This and white rhythm and blues are my favorite of his songs.
I love also prisoner in disguise
Wonderful voice, inflections with real feeling. Why he didn't go further is beyond me.
Never went mainstream, as he passed all his songs to others. Listen to his versions of New Kid and Best of my Love, wonderful songwriter, great performer.
@@joedesouza8042 I read where the Eagles wanted him but Meisner said no?!
jd souther ,fantastic singer-songwriter!!
Great song great memories .
What a beautiful song and that voice is got to be the closest to an angels voice this is one of my all time favorite songs.
Super cool thanks for the
