Step 1: Buy 5k watch to show off
Step 2: Realize no one cares any more about it than a $100 Seiko and most people think you are a moron for buying a 5k watch
    Step 3: Pick different hobby

    • @jeanlefranc3817

      Or
Step one : think you’re smart buying at $5500 a $6000 watch from a preowned dealer
Step two : realize that none of your friends and colleagues even notice it, and most the guys at the local Redbar wear cooler timepieces
Step three : after six months, bring it back to the same preowned dealer who generously offers $2400 for your precious watch
Step four : get awfully drunk
Step five : get the Damasko or the Sinn you should have bought from day one

Love the intro Tristano, I'm chuckling away here in work at the moment. I could see it in your face. the difficulty you had making this vid and having to recount the desperate scenarios you've had in the past and I'm sure your not alone, sure I've had some horrors myself but best leave them in that locked box at the bottom of the ocean :) You touched on such a good point in relation to your Rolex GMT, sometimes the pleasure we get from this hobby is firstly the predatory search and research that we do online when looking for that next piece....then we pull the trigger and then the anticipation kicks in and the long wait for that day when you receive that package all wrapped up waiting to be opened, that excitement is just indescribable. So you get your watch and scratch the itch that you've had for so long only to find out that actually you were not that into the watch after all, this my friend is the biggest let down and its such a rollercoaster ride of emotions but at the end of the day we just can't get enough of it. Anyway just letting you know your not alone, I personally end up flipping 80% of the watches I buy...yes a total watch slut but I love it!

I think they add a little bit of variety to an otherwise very boring/stagnant/uninspired industry nowadays. They're also a watch that gets more character as it is worn.
It is also a nice stop gap for those who want a gold watch but don't want the absurd cost of one.

'Restocking fee' should be a huge red flag. There ARE sellers that know perfectly well they item they're selling is flawed. And they'll make more profit in the end from selling the same item numerous times and adding up the restocking fees. You have to 'watch out' for these slimeballs. ALWAYS consider this when you see a 'restocking fee', no matter what the item is!

I'm actually not really into horology that much, but somehow I love watching your videos. Love your style and presentation! I'm a bit sad actually that your channel decided to be all about horology because I would LOVE to have videos about your other interests. Maybe some time again in the future? :) Anyways keep up the good work!

Just getting into watches myself, and Urban Gentry has become my go-to. I haven't spent enough money to have regrets yet, but I'm sure that'll change! Thanks for your passion and enthusiasm.

    Lmao at that intro.
-Alexa, book me a flight from Berlin to London

Experience is the best teacher. I've looked closely at the grey market and made the decision long ago to always purchase from an Authorized Dealer. I realize that it is more costly but will save me heartache.

I fully agree with you, Rich Buddy. I am a relative newcomer to luxury watches. To my surprise, I have discovered over the last little while that there really is not a sizable difference in price between a used Rolex and one that is new. In fact, in recent months I have been pricing Rolex DateJusts and Explorers on Chrono24 often to find in some cases the asking price for a used Rolex more than the price of a new one.

I just found your channel on TH-cam by luck tonight and I have to tell you I got the biggest laugh I have had in a very long time when you said you could not even talk about how much you lost on your Breitling from the gray market dealer. I am sorry to laugh at your loss but I just found it so dang funny. I cannot help your loss but I am going to subscribe to your channel so maybe in the long run you will get back a few pennies from me watching. Kept up the great work. Eric

The ability to not takes ones self too seriously is a mark of a man who is strong in his own belief and is steadfast in his own values. All the greats have been this way. Carol Burnett, William Shatner, and man, TGV you have that fun tongue and cheek humor. Keep it up! Best intro...
