The crow is probably Heckle or Jeckyl from the cartoons. They had puppets back in the day. Look them up and see.

I ran estate sales for over 25 years. Sometimes we had timme crunch and huge houses filled that were closed up for 40 to 60 years! The only thing we did was clean up the property, house of debris, get the rats and roaches out and make large paths. We let folks in at their own risk and dig. Giv prices at checkout. If they didn't like, someone in line yelled and claimed! Crazy days! Fun but so much work.

Talk about a blast from my actual past! The “signs” On the wall were actually hooked to your car bumpers when you visited these family attractions. I used to work for Santa’s workshop ( 1976-79) and then at the summit of Whiteface Mt. My grandparents used to own the hotel Chasm Colonies next to Ausable Chasm ( pronounced all- say- ball kazem There is a lot of history behind these attractions. Some are still there and some are not.

Those alphabet posters look similar to the ones that were hanging in the school I attended back in the 60's. When I started teaching fourth grade in the 70's, we were required to have a set hanging in our classrooms. Now many schools don't even teach handwriting which I think is a mistake. You found some great things at that fun digger sale. My favorite is that crow puppet. Thanks for sharing!

I think that the woman of the home may have been a schoolteacher, or her mother that passed. Also, possibly that she had a few hobbies 1 of which may have been sewing (and perhaps making costumes for school plays or her children's. It appears that she had items that meant a lot to her, perhaps her own children's art projects. I also believe that she went on many trips or at least had a lot of dreams of traveling whereas the travel brochures came from. It appears that they had things from perhaps one of their mother and father's estate that they weren't able to part with (furniture, and a whole lot more). Either way I love your channel and watching you. You are so cute, and I know how to write "cursive" which I think should still be taught in school. My daughters are 23 years and 19 years and neither write cursive. They didn't know how to count back change until I taught them. The computer age brought many, many great things but taking away some valuable things as well. Guess that makes me "OLD" since "I was born "WAY BACK IN THE DAY!" LOL And they teach me new things every day. It looks like you found new treasures that you saved! :)💞

The instructions on the Mexican pullover to soak in salt when you first wash it, is to fix the dyes so the colour does not run into the white. You will have to decide if the owner washed it previously or not. I would follow the instructions and then the second wash add a cup of vinegar to the water to ensure the dye is fast and won’t run.

Think that's a stretch, but I believe there was still a lot of meat on the bone there. I like the way you go all honey badger sometimes...as long as nothing gets damaged. I remember the alphabet cards that were above the blackboards, when I was in grade school. At some point, later on, they were the cursive alphabet cards that lined the blackboards. The kitten fabric reminded me of a simple quilt that my grandmother gave me when my son was born. She also made pieced quilts, but for every day use and easy wash and dry, she would take a piece of fabric and put a flannel piece as the second layer and then another piece of flannel that would coordinate with the print fabric, and then she would hand quilt around all of the little kittens and figures. After sewing it together, she would hand tie it with coordinating ribbons. These little quilts held up to lots of washing and wear. The bells are made with paper pulp, and I remember my other grandparents had some and they had silver "glitter" on them that got all over everything and yet, somehow, there was always still glitter on the bells. They would hang them over the open doorway between the LR and DR. I can still see the straggly Christmas tree, with the tinsel and the bubble lights, in front of the window and all of the packages underneath. Wow!

As an old retired teacher, I loved the fond memories of the the handwriting posters. Required for every classroom. Did you know cursive was taught as a brain exercise? Each company's handwriting textbooks had their own font. The Mexican pullover says to use salt as a mordant to set the dye.

    • @PaperandMoose
      @PaperandMoose  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

The handwriting posters also reminded me of the chalk holders that would hold 2-3 pieces of chalk & my teacher would use that to mark the “practice lines” on the chalkboard. It also was a big deal to be chosen to clap the erasures, because then we could stand outside. Oh the good ol’ days!

    • @donnawilkes8954

Boy, do I understand price it right. Every couple years I would do a garage sale with two other people. I would bring my stuff over the day before and we’d price the items. I didn’t want to carry my stuff back home so I priced it right but one of the ladies especially thought she could get better prices. I would end up selling almost everything I had and it didn’t matter if it was clothing, furniture or accessories you name it and I would always make the most money. On the other hand especially that one lady I don’t know how many years she hauled this collection back-and-forth trying to sell it and eventually she had to downsize and ended up just taking it to Goodwill. Probably Goodwill couldn’t sell it either but all her items were over priced. If you’re gonna have a garage sale don’t have it to make money it’s to clear out your house or garage.

I seen you pick up the paint set, I thought "Oh I like that!" Reminded me of a set I seen at a friends house when growing up. Should borow the script cards for cursive writing to Taco, he missed, or didn't do so well in it. I have trouble with some, and most have trouble with mine, but if I concentrate I can still write - write not to badly. Fun day! 👍👍

My writing is a mixture of cursive & print. I’d probably have to concentrate really hard to write strictly cursive again!

Great sale! Sorry I missed it. I ended up at a Church Yard/ Rummage sale in Northampton. Did the "three_peat" also!!! Some great items. I REALLY NEED TO STOP BUYING FOR A WHILE.....LOL...too funny.

Oh I could stop by for a year & still have too much stuff. It’s the thought of “But what if I find THE thing I’ve been looking for at that sale??” Hope all is well!

Great video; thanks for taking us along. I think about all the time I put into cursive every time I sign for a purchase on a screen with my finger. Oh well, I'm still glad to know how to do it. Hopefully those, and your other finds, do well for you. I took sax for a while a few years back and my teacher had me write out these 12-bar blues tunes. I had access to a couple of '30s yearbooks from Conn. College (then all women). I named the blues "shorts" with the phrases & tidbits written under the senior portraits such as: "A Perky Click of Heels Down the Hall." "White Orchids & a Whiff of Shalimar." "He's Short, Mom, But Oh My!" Annabelle Seems Used to It," and "Uncountable, Discountable Males." The tunes were terrible but the titles were fun

ONE single word gets me to the right estate sale in the listing on Craig's List .... "DIGGERS" .......... BINGO ! LOVE it . What I HATE is when ya go to an "estate sale" and the house is CLEANED OUT except for big n' BULKY (beds, piano, sofa, benches, ride on lawn mower, etc) . I HATE THOSE !!!!!!!!!!!!

Craigslist is hit or miss for me. I find more with those sales, by the time it’s the actual sale day, they’ve had a bunch of people already come through & stuff has been sold. But I do love digger sales, they are so much fun!

Good to see the Happy Hunter, well HAPPY! I love the way some of these folks store bags of old clothing...that's the first stuff I spin off! If I don't need it, out it goes! That old bed stead is similar to mine...part of my 1929 set. Gotta love the photo of that vintage semi rig. I have always liked vintage trucks. Me too...like to dig and "work" the drawers and boxes, and especially those dark basements, found a number of vintage radios and small appliances there! Those alphabet boards bring back my grammar school memories! The era of real slate blackboards, felt erasers, penmanship exercises, math problems on at the board, rainy day sing-a-longs, field trips, and of course, puppy loves, as well as falling in love with the cute teacher!!

By the time both my batteries had died, I had found a little door for an attic “crawl space”. I was so excited to see what may have been stored away in there…. Shine my light in & it’s just empty clothing box after empty clothing box. It looked like this person must have shopped at Hess’s a lot cause it looked like their box stockroom!

@@PaperandMoose Ugh, all I can think of as a home for cute little furry fellows and gals in the form of mice, rats, or squirrels! Your find reminds me of a similar situation, only this attic space was filled with old wooden cases of beer bottles, empty, naturally! Being wooden and glass, and very dusty...these were quite old. My partner friend and I cleared them out...and ended up being sold to bottle collectors. The brand was Lucky Lager. "It's Lucky When You Live In California" was their catch phrase. There were 13 cases! Wow there must have been some wild parties in that place!! There were 24 bottles per case. "Hic"! This space was sealed up for years!
