Look at her speed!!!!! I can't sit on the chair. I want to stand and run, or do exercizes, or jump, or...God!! I adore her speed. Her energy is so catching! She is great.

Oh dear lord I could watch Slutskaya perform this program all day long. I freaking LOVE the way she skated it. That commentator can keep her "artistry" because THAT is how I want to look like on the ice.

Not sure about the new pants rule in 2006, but Debbie Thomas wore them in her 1988 Calgary short program. It was a great look for her. I love this program.
This skate makes me cry, this and Alexi Yagudin's short/long programs in 2002. No other skates move me like those, there are lots of beautiful skaters but it just is what it is.

I never got why people said she was artistically "weak." She wasn't. It's just that when your main two rivals over your international career are Michelle Kwan and Sasha Cohen (the two most artistically stunning skaters this sport has ever seen with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions) of course you're not gonna look super artistic compared to them...but she was still better than most artistically in her time.
People who say powerful, exuberant skates like this aren't 'artistic' are the same kind of people who think things like black metal aren't 'music.' No, you just don't like it. There are certainly things about Irina's skating to criticize (like the spirals) but her choice of wilder music like a Totentanz remix is just a different style than the softer ballet chosen by other skaters. If she'd skated to this music delicately, that would have been a bad interpretation.
Sandra Bezic has always been square minded and led by prejudice. The fact Irina was Russian was a trigger for Bezic to undervalue everything about her skating and even criticize her physique and persona.
I am usually a little sceptic about her skating but this was just great. great energy, power, originality in the costume and coreography. and for once...perfect edges in the jumps.
Most skaters come on the ice to "try" to win. Irina came on to show she's the winner. There is not a shadow of a doubt in her skating. It's so exhilarating to watch her energy, exuberance and confidence! American commentators: "She will need 159 points here..." Screen: "Boom! 166 points."
In SLC and here she delivered and should've been at the top after the SP. Its a shame that she didn't win the SP. One of the great's of this sport and through her skating she lets people know figure skatign is a SPORT. Just watch her skate..

Just wonderful.. She brought such a freshness to the female figure skating, didnt care for one second that she wasn\'t another \"swan\" like the rest.. What a shame about the LP though! I so wanted her to win!
@Keshira I agree-way back in 1988 when Debi Thomas did a similar program wearing a black unitard our American commentators could not fawn over her enough. I love this SP-Debi's too. Different and DARING not just the ballet-there are other artistic forms.

An awful lot of fans are sadly ragging on Rachael-Irina was this cute little girl with spunk but not much 'artistry' whatever that means compared to say the elegant Kwan in 1998. By 2002 she had worked so hard on improving her presentation, etc. I love the unitard (Debi Thomas was the unitard pioneer!) I think it looks good on Irina and Debi's body types. Frou frou dresses don't work on well built girls-or women. Cohen is slight so she can get away with bangles, etc.
This program is sick! I almost died at spins and the power behind all the jumps. One of the most technically sound programs I've ever seen if I saw one. I thought Michelle's Totetanz was good but I think I like Irina's better.
Rachael Flatt should watch Irina's performances and learn from her. Irina is powerful but she's not the tiny ice princess type. She has a strong athlete's build, it's what God gave her and she does the best she could with it. I find her program exciting and those JUMPS! Amazing! By far the best athlete there. Shizuka came closest to having the overall package but she did not emote as well as Irina or Sasha. All the young ladies did a great job packaging their skating to feature their strengths.
