it's really crazy how sorachi was able to interlink all these characters together by their past and how it was all executed in the present. Even though gintama was known as a comedy anime, it has one of the best (well imo the BEST) storyline and you just really have to appreciate sorachi's work

Dante D'amiko Interesting! Many consider Utsuro the best villain but that is cool. Oboro is a great character and without him, some things in Gintama probably wouldn’t have ever happened.
More traction for this channel please!!!! Quality well-constructed videos about a series that also deserves more love but I goddamn know there's a lot of us english-speaking fans out there!

i don't get why people are so dismissive towards oboro, i mean I get that everybody wants to be by the ''good guy''s side if that even means anything but really most people just don't understand the complexity of some characters and prefer dichotomies and preferences, their depth and the weight they carry to the plot is as important if not more as the force they oppose, because it's the foundation maybe i can't take jokes but i don't know i just can't take myself out of the perspective that there are a lot of people who act like spoiled brats out there and can't pay at least respect to the sacrifice that brought the very essence of the whole story to life
Sometimes I think when oboro felt jealousy towards the new disciples of shoka sonjuku his feelings were exacerbated or were used by Utsuro to get his body back. In the movie it was shown that Utsuro to some extent can take control of others who've taken his blood or make them zombies. It's really unclear when Nobume says that it wasn't Gintoki who killed shoyo but Utsuro did. Even though he killed all the alternate personalities in shoyo when he was not in control he couldn't have changed circumstances outside without Oboro. Well it's just a theory but I think she knew oboro wouldn't harm shoyo and his disciples but then again all this isn't clearly stated at all.
He is not a goat. Wanting to die for shoyo to make him finally free. But when shoyo is finally happy and teaches gintoki takasugi and katsura he decides to betray shoyo? Bruh
You can't call it just "jealousy". He lives his entire life in contradiction to what he believes and what he wants. Given that how little things in our life can make one irrational, imagine the scale of his feelings and his point of view. No human being could pursue that life. He couldn't leave Naraku, he couldn't die either.

PAPA FRANKU 100% agree. Even though Gintama doesn’t showcase it’s story until much later on there is a deep one that needs to be experienced.

Oboro was good I liked his final fight and his story and his contribution to the story was as you said very crucial
