The Final is what you're about to feel one last time, the cherry on top of rewarding what you're experiencing in the end, laugh and cry is the part of our expressions we can or cannot control
It's lovable BECAUSE of the slow start. Their depth comes from spending so much time with them. People aren't always fun, people are boring, people are stupid and annoying. But you keep going back for their charm and kindness and the same stupidity in them that you see in yourself. You Connect with them. Their problems become yours and their successes become yours. Gintama characters are so close to my heart because they feel so human. I can't idolize them, I can only look over them. That's also why they're so unforgettable. They aren't 2 dimensional because their stories aren't rushed. It's not easy to accomplish this for a storyteller.
Ngl, I'm crying reading your comment. I'm so weird. It's just that you described Gintama to its core. All that boring stuff in the first 50 or 100 episodes are the stuff you'll miss and actually treasure. Sorachi wrote Gintama to be like a universe you get into and be with family, not as characters you analyze and fawn over. The characters you hold hands with through thick and thin, to laugh and cry with. And I'm crying because Gintama ended. After watching the movie, the ending finally being real. It still hurts but just like the ending, they will always be there.
I definitily feel you, aniki! It's something better than storytelling! It's revolution! i first learned of the depth of anime characters through a comment from "Katekyo Hitman Reborn! " review! After waching both i can tell my best!GINPACHI SENSEI ! I'm so glad i tried my luck with this fantasy! Your comments may have movied me to try it, but too late! I have my fun tring to convince my brother to start watching. I can't believe the fact he rejects my offer. My experience with gintama has changed my perspective for fun. I find my self laughting and enjoing life more now. I think that the lessons from GINPACHI sensei is real!My advice is to try finding the best anime ever but you now know where to! Good luck finding your best character in Gintama! Mine is: Saitou Shimaru! You must watch 293 eps to find him.
I loved it since the first scene when they were trying to catch that cat. A class mate in middle school kept telling me about how goofy it is and never mentioned any of the serious stuff
The thing I love most about Gintama is that unlike most shonen anime, it’s not about Gintoki growing stronger to reach his goal. He’s already fought his fight and walked his walk. Gintama is about Gintoki sticking to his ideals even under the harshest circumstances, it’s about the Yorozuya growing emotionally, not physically, and it’s about helping other people to grow. It’s Seinen in a way that very few seinen are; if you have a shonen protagonist who’s a shonen, they have to grow up and become a seinen at some point, and Gintoki is that guy. He’s the matured but still goofy shonen protagonist who went through all the highs and lows, and instead of finishing his arc and going off to live happily ever after he sticks around and helps others, even when sometimes he isn’t the main protagonist of his world.
"It's not like Luffy that wants to be a pirate king, or Naruto to be a hokage. If you strip off the goals- we're all just lazy bums in the inside. That's Gintoki. That's what Gintama is about, just living through life." - Hideoaki Sorachi (Author of Gintama who wants to be a *cheese bun* ) lol I remember there's a bit of existential crisis before that. Something along the lines of: "What if you don't have a goal? what's next? What if you achieved your goal?" I felt calm when I remember those words cause I'm kinda lost without any personal goals in life. So I wish I'd known that 5 years earlier. Anyways, this is my own take: Gintama is an anime (or manga) you enjoy in your own pace, cozy yourself up and trust me, even for just 24 mins- I hope you feel whatever the episode is about. It's honestly funnier if you get the references, even if you don't, you'll just know it's a reference to something and you'll laugh it off. If the meme goes "is that a Jojo reference?" well Gintama uses a *ton* of them. And most importantly- Gintama has a heart. I can't put into words but parodies aside, it's uplifting and positive and wholesome. I love Gintama. It's my (closeted) top 1 because my fellow otakus haven't really been hit by the feels (like seriously, the most feelings they got from an anime is Shield Hero and Anohana.) I don't think they're ready for *this* thing. I don't want them going "eh the animation's not that good" "not much fighting" and not notice the story. There's no point then :[ if they deny the weight of the stories, refuse to let loose- that attitude. It can't be helped. You'll be surprised by how many people don't want to feel genuinely good/happy... most are _horny_ So yeah Gintama is hella enjoyable. If I got an anime to watch my whole life, it's definitely gonna be Gintama. I judge fairly by enjoyment no matter how depressing or dramatic, as long as there's *something.* Berserk and Gintama are the only ones so far that reached my soul, that has *something.* I've been rewatching reaction videos about it (once in a while for almost 1 year) It's so much fun seeing them laugh at the start only to cry and suddenly laugh again. The embarrassment, anger, and confusion. It feels nice to let your emotions free and see other people like that ^^ Also I watched Gintama first before "Lives of Highschool Boys" and boiii was I laughing my ass off hearing the same voice actors!! Ah that's it, may you have a wonderful day and hopefully more people get into Gintama, cause they deserve the recognition honestly. From the manga, publishing house, Director, animators, sponsors, seiyuus- they all did their best keeping Gintama going from copyrights xD It's been really fun all 369 (nice) episodes +3 movies and other specials, love everything to bits.
You just nailed everything. Gintama became such a big part of my life, way bigger than any anime from my childhood. And honestly if it wasn't for the random barber shop and Otaku race episode I stumbled on that led me to binge Gintama 3-5 years later, I wouldn't have liked the show. My expectations were just to laugh my ass off every time but of course, Sorachi pulled the rug every time. Next thing I know, I found family in Gintama. It's weird, they're just characters, but reading the manga (after binging up to 315), waiting week after week, I found myself meeting up with friends every week. Seeing how they struggle, missing the time when they were just having fun and pestering others, and try to get those times back. Gintama has such a different goal than any shounen I've encountered, thus making it so relatable. Also, not saying people in other series and franchises didn't have the same passion, but I just felt it so much in Gintama. Changing from print to digital platform, making the final move AND the semi final, 2 live actions, I just feel the love from everyone who worked for it...when Gintama could've been cut short or skipped tons of arcs. There are tons of top-god tier written animes out there but Gintama will forever be in my heart. It just hits different.
You are one of those who understood the point of Gintama, it's about that subtle message to troubled people that they can take it easy and enjoy life...
The more u rewatch Gintama The harder it hits cuz u start noticing all the meanings behind Gintoki's actions and dialogues from the beginning.. When I started rewatching it and noticed the foreshadowing in the very first episode, it broke me totally, Gintama holds a very special place in my heart, I am so grateful I came across this masterpiece.
Episode 13 hits a whole lot harder after the whole ordeal, and I can't believe Takasugi was actually built up as early as episode 19. It's a road worth walking twice
Sorry in advance for coming to this comment 11months after it was written, but the part where you said "your room, dress shirts" hit really hard and made me emotional. Thank you, honestly.
@@Saint.Topman I'm doing very good actually haha. Thanks for asking tho. I meant it more as in it hit me in a way that makes me appreciate life and the present more.
when we got to find out Gintoki’s past, I felt the same way takasugi felt watching Gintoki after knowing his past. “you’re the one most wronged by the world yet you still go on” it really does show how strong Gintoki, no, Samurai are.
I picked up Gintama with the right expectations, waiting to see goofy characters doing goofy stuff. I'm a sucker for any kind of jokes, from the dirtiest to the darkest. It delivered immediately for me. Most people start the show with the wrong expectations, they have to understand that it's primarily a sitcom. But I definitely agree to every thing you said!!!
Same. I started expecting an action show and I didnt enjoy it until I actually dropped my expectations for an action show and started expecting for a good comedy. Then I got sideblasted by the SA arc😅
Since I finished the Final I'm on a spree to watch every opinion, every review, every love-letter that exists on youtube. Thank you for this, you spoke from my heart. I'm just happy that I started the journey because of a guy named Nux and because of those annoyingly high MAL scores. I pity the lost souls who haven't seen the show due to its lenght.
@@airielsmith7392 I do plan on making a vid on it eventually, but I can't say when. Might take a long time before I do cause I've got a lot of other series I want to tackle too.
I remember seeing a clip of Gintama on TH-cam and thought it was funny and seeing again on Twitter and checking out afterwards. Best anime decision of my life!
Many people dislike Gintama in the beginning probably because their humor wavelengths are still not in sync with the style of the show. Once you spent some time and got to know the characters better, this is when the real fun ride begins!
"If Gintama is ass, tell the fan it's ass" absolutely correct. The only one watching gintama in my community are me and 2 of my friends, and it's been our no1 anime for 6 years. Whenever someone ask why we always rate Gintama higher than anything else in any season we're just like "we may like the story, premise, ost, animation, va, or anything. But character-wise, we can't help but think otherwise. The effect of watching Gintama is your standards for characters got so high you can't easily find one you like. If you do find a character you like, the anime will most likely have a bad story in general. It's hard finding something that's good all-around. While Gintama may not the best in every aspect except their characters, it definitely not far off. And most importantly is the fanbase. You wouldn't get anything that puts you off the anime like any other. You feel the anime boring? Yeah sorry, maybe it's not your kind of humor. People fighting over whose the most op protag? Nah our protag will most likely died to diabetes first. Whose the best heroine? Definitely not kagura" then if they ask is it worth watching then the answer is always the same "Gintama isn't anime for everyone. It takes patience, dedication, and focus. If you think you're up for it then go ahead". It is such an amazing anime that I know I'll always love and will always be my no 1 no matter for how long it is
I kinda agree but I do think Kagura is the best heroine, she is cute, she is strong, she is funny and serious when she wants to be. Since shonen manga is written for boys it usually lacks realistic heroines; they are always blank or two dimensional, they only serve to the hero's plot, they have to be very feminine and hot. They are generally really bad at writing women, and if you say that she is not a traditional heroine, you are right, but that is exactly why she is great. Kagura is a very well written girl, so I think it is important to point it out.
I also have been a Gintama fan since around 2013, and one more big point is that maybe the shows references get outdated and irrelevant the more time passes. I get the jokes because I was up to date with older anime/mangas at the time, so it would always get me when they made fun of a trope in those series, or referenced that sort of thing, but it might be harder to enjoy the show if the half of the jokes fly past you.
@@enanqusi Okay, but you're soo right. Gintama has the best female characters, they're not just here for fan service, which is sadly the reality of majority anime. Gintama's heroines felt like real people.
Big 3 fighting for the first place… Meanwhile, Gintama sitting there picking his nose Finally someone who appreciate gintama… I recall countless nights laughing like a maniac, roller coaster of emotions… Nothing can match its 4th wall breaking comedy The worst part is, you feel very lost and lonely once you complete the anime🫠🫡
I completed Gintama today. I don't know how to express my feelings. I feel completely empty inside. Never thought this parody-type and goofy comedy anime will end up being my favourite anime ever. Yorozuya forever.❤️
i just finished today, i started from early febuary this year with 2 episodes each day(eventho i am not that strict sometime i do 3 XD) and damn what a journey i might do a rewatch.
Once you finally reached and understand the Gintama's soul, I'm sure you'll rewatch every episodes of Gintama many times even if it's 367 episodes, like me. You'll eventually enjoy every seasons of Gintama, and weirdly no any episodes that exist to be boring anymore. And watch it like drinking Water everyday to stay hydrated :)!
I couldn’t even tell you how many times ive watched the series in its entirety. It’s a lot. It’s still one of my go-to shows to put on when there’s nothing else I want to watch. Nowadays I just watch random arcs in no particular order.
Shinpachi's is glasses that's all... That got me Actually I binge watched it for a whole month. And I keep on rewatching till this day whenever I have time. It can really slap you with reality and cradle you and make you happy that you live.
You said gold: Gintama requires patience. All these new hyperactive anime that give people "the moment" so early, had destroyed the patience. Gintama gave us "the moment" at episode 300!
Honestly it was the simplicity of the few first episodes that hooked me. The jokes were dumb but inspired, the stories were short but sweet, specially episode 6 watching Otsu’s dad struggle to fulfill his promise and episode 7 with the unfulfilled vengeance from Gengai for his son. They were silly but strangely deep.
I started watching Gintama in 2015 and for the last 5 years it remained as my no 1 anime of all time and will continue to be so, I am really happy to see people enjoying Gintama. Really a great video
It had like 4 back-to-back, serious, high quality arcs. I was shook from Shogun Assassination Arc onward. All I have to do is watch the Final movie and then I'm done with the series.
I loved every bit of Gintama all the way through from the first episode, through every movie, till the end and it was an amazing journey. The author made sure to make every character memorable as well as have each one have their peak moment and i still remember each character to this day cuz of their gags and roles played in the show. Learning about Gintoki’s past and learning he was just a guy living in the moment, was given a purpose in life with the people who brought themselves into his life and made him, Gintoki. All those characters impacted Gintoki, and Gintoki impacted everyone around him and in the real world with his inspirational quotes and ideals. Truly a great character in anime
Tbh, I got invested in Gintama much earlier. I think that the earlier episodes were significantly weaker, however, there were episodes early on that had things that grabbed me. For instance, the "ghost hunting" episode is quoted as being one of the funnier early episodes, episode 13, which introduced the Harasume and showed how deep the bond between the main trio went when they'd been together for so little time was amazing, episode 17 introduced Takasugi. In that moment, you know that he's not only important but he and Gintoki have a long tragic past between them. And around 40 episodes in, the arc that focused on Kagura. This arc isn't often mentioned that much, but it developed Kagura, Gintoki and Umibozu very well as well as setting up Kagura's entire arc throughout the series in no more than 3-4 episodes. Not to mention the episode that one underground fighter who was raising orphans, the absolutely hilarious chaotic episode that followed it, and the snow sculpting one. Gintama is a very subtle, slow and different series from most shounen. It does take time to get good. I only started viewing it as one of my top anime after the Courtesan of a Nation arc around about episode 250, and then my #1 anime after the SA and FS arcs (ep 300-316). It did take a while, but before these arcs, it was definitely one of the most fun series I'd ever watched, and that was enough for me. I legitimately enjoyed it WITHOUT the deep philosophic themes and plots that came later, and the fact that it managed to pull of both that fun comedic atmosphere and balance it with the emotional depth that comes in its more serious arcs is what makes Gintama so special. Truly not just one of the best anime of all time, but TV shows in general.
Yeah, people say it gets good by the Benizakura arc but it actually doesn't take that long to get good, like you said, Gintama drops small hints that there is a larger, overarching plot encompassing all the goofy characters we see interact, and that it is heading somewhere though very slowly and taking it's sweet time (even if Gorilla-sensei says that he didn't have an idea)
Now that i have finished gintama i cant get into any other anime 😭💔 I really didnt expect to get so attached to the characters, i started watching it because i wanted to laugh .. didnt expect it to be such an emotional rollercoaster, and i surely didnt expect it to end up as my favorite anime of all time 🥺❤️
I went into gintama blind. Not knowing that most of the show is in top 30 and at first i thought think was just a funny show. Then it hit me harder than my mom.
Nux is also part of the reason I started Gintama myself! While I'm still pretty early in the series, I've been loving it and I can't wait to see how it changes and surprises me over time
@@ShiroyashaVince oh yeah I think I will. I'm still in the slower beginning of the show, but even then I'm loving the comedy and serious stuff then, so I'm definitely excited to see what people are loving I'm the rest of it
Such a great review! I began to like Gintama in eps 13 cause I'm a sucker for found family trope, start to love Gintama in Mitsuba arc, by 4Devas I put Gintama in masterpiece tier. eps 305 made me want to scream telling the whole world to WATCH GINTAMA!! lol also thank you for appreciating the Gintama ladies!!!
I first fell in love with the series when I was ten and my sister showed me Gintoki picking his nose in absolute panic. I've loved every minute of it, and every time I watch it it touches me deeper. The complexity and depth of the characters and their relationships is mind blowing to me. Truly my favourite work of fiction of all time.
"The best way to live a full life is to be a child, no matter what your age." The quote by Gintoki hits better when you realize his full story in the past.
Truly a masterpiece. Everything truly is hintes from the beginning. I rewatched it and picked up on so mnay references i didnt acknowledge so many throw away lines. Truly well done.
I'm one of the ones that got into Gintama early. I think the moment that I knew I was in for the long haul was was the Strawberry Milk speech in episode 11. On one level it was rather crass and humorous, but seemed to be layered with deeper meaning. Even then it was in a way telling you what Gintama was about: Good times, leading to pissing the bed, and having to just move forward with what can't be changed. We don't see what the big Pissing The Bed moment is for a few hundred episodes, but the bulk of the show is moving forward with glimpses of the lukewarm wetness that spread everywhere along the way.
Out of all the anime's and even the big 3, gintama is prob the best or one of the best. Cause of how every character has a character arc, and each ep was gold even the fillers, and it had some realistic moments that you'll never expect from a comedy anime, also it's the best comedy anime I've ever seen as well (I watched saikiki and many more comedies). Also the first 50 ep are world building witch is important, but as soon as you surpass ep 50 it gets funnier and better. Also Gintama gives you life lessons in quotes, episodes or in characters and there backstory, also might be the only anime will make you cry lol.
''Out of all the anime's and even the big 3, gintama is prob the best or one of the best'' .... NO, no its not. That's your opinion, not a fact. In terms of rating in some sites maybe yes, but fan's ratings are not everything. In terms of manga sales, Gintama is not even in the top 30.. Even Fairytail surpasses it. Does that mean Fairytail is better..? Of course not. But as stupid as this claim is, so much stupid is the thing you said. (because aside from ratings in only certain sites, there is no other indicator that Gintama is better, or close to be the best in general, from all other anime..) Of course that doesn't mean that someone can't love it more than anything else, or that it is wrong/ illogical to do so.. Everything else you said (except from comedy), about characters having their arcs, some fillers being good, having realistic moments, having life lessons, making you cry... all these together can be found in plenty other anime.. Gintama most certainly does not have the monopolio in them. Even in the video you just watched (GTO) and in your fuc@#%ing avatar (BLEACH) you can find such examples.. In terms of comedy in long anime, Gintama is definately the best, but only because there is not another one like it, that is based mainly on making people laugh (except maybe from some more childish anime..) You can absolutely find 12/24 episode anime that can leave you to tears from laughing. Gintama provides just a greater number of episodes filled with comedy. Its just plain wrong to compare Gintama with anime like Golden boy and to claim that the first is better, just because it has more episodes with comedy..
@@WhyOfCourse OP got dissed, so yes (?) I mean....whatever's "good" or "bad" has been changing over the years to mean whatever the person saying it enjoys more or less, so whatever show is "best" is an entirely subjective thing so... It was and wasn't needed, I guess?
@@ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣΚΑΡΑΓΙΑΝΝΗΣ-η9π yo chill. thats a lot coming from a One Piece fan, triggered much?. Why even judging an anime by its manga sales? Most people dont even read the manga because a lot of the jokes delivers a lot better in the anime. Atleast Gintama dont have dont "power up to a single punch and one punch everything to win" like One Piece, that is peak fighting scene for you guys. Very lame fighting animation with zero cinematography. Naruto did it better.
@@fukunaga-kane You seem like a reasonable person, so please answer me truthfully. Do you also believe that Gintama is in general better than the big three and if so, by which criteria? I don't ask if for someone particular Gintama is better, but if you also believe that it is OBJECTIVELY better. Any person can like Gintama the most out of everything else and that's 100% fine, but its completely different to claim it is the best Objectively. That's the only thing that bothered me. Sorry but in the heat of the moment i went a little overboard. Its just that i don't like it when someone belittles with false facts the things i love.
I watched Gintama in a very random way. Sees some op that i liked on TH-cam and got into it. When I see 2 first episodes i started watching it on a daily basis. Every day... And after the first serious arc I fell in love with this series. One of the best anime I've ever seen... "Everything changes when people change." (с) Sakata GIntoki
I was looking for Detective Conan memes back in the day and found Gintama's parody of it, then I went down a rabbit hole of funny clips before deciding to start the manga.
Someone casually said Gintama is one of their favs and I simply started watching it as timepass, first few eps were fun but I did not like it as much initially. But by the time I realized, I had already fallen in love with this anime. Till date, I am in awe of this show and the story telling.
Gintama turned dark real fast. That scene where gintoki was saying that no cat could ever come close to his experience of eating leftovers in trash can and seeing kid gintoki foraging dead bodies for supplies much later in the series was a major shock.
You make me cry. I need to erased this show from my memory to rewatching again . And the problem with the Comedy from the begining its that, when you start this show, you need to had watched some other Animes and know some basic Culture stufs from Japan to really understand this kind of comedy. But its worth it, all the journey. Gintama really gave me what i need to keep living . Thank you so much for this video.
I personally loved Gintama from the start. It’s such a breath of fresh air compared to the other shounen series I have watched. Some people don’t care for the episodic and comedic nature of the series and I can understand that, but I personally think that’s what makes the series so magical. While these episodes are all comedic, they plant subtle seeds of depth and development that will later add to the themes down the line, and you can feel it. It just makes those more serious arcs more impactful. I enjoy watching the characters being able to just breathe and live their lives. They go through situations that are relatable and that fact makes the cast of characters all the more human. I personally think it’s just brilliant.
The care and attention to this series where the bring back one off characters from 10 YEARS ago that only were in a couple episodes and to come back and connect in silly heartfelt ways just makes Gintama so much more alive with people. They have their lives just as much as we do, they get busy, life gets boring, but they also find the jokes and joy everyday brings despite their traumas or downfalls. Silver is better than gold because being silver is being enough. Gintama gave me hope to stand back up on my own two feet. Gintama is number one and I am glad it is such a slow start to weed out those who are just looking for a quick fix, but those who stick with it become friends to the most zany and wacky and hilarious and charming and amazing written characters. Odd jobs forever!
Hearing you talk about Gintama, and then looking up the Nux video you reference & hearing him talk about Gintama, made me realize this show truly changes people! Anyone who watches Gintama speaks like this. It has this effect that makes people want to talk about it, but know it's hard to explain. It dominated MAL's top 10 for years, but many people thought it was a comedy/gag anime & mostly avoided it. But what makes Gintama so great to me is the characters. There is so much personality & sincerity in each one (and there are dozens of them), that the deeper you go into the series, the more invested in every little thing they do you become.
Gintama is a series that works best with fan subs. Official subs don't care enough to explains the puns, and Japanese (non-anime) pop culture references and as a result some really cleaver and funny moments, can go entirely over the audiences heads. Some jokes can get by off absurdity, but many need that extra bit of care fan subs provide as you wouldn't even realize they were there otherwise. Even if you know Japanese, unless you grew up in 80s/90s Japan or that area is a special interest to you. Fan subs are basically a must.
Underrated comment YES I learned so much about Japanese culture from the explanations at the top of the screen. Had to pause but I love it. You know it's a crab sub group if they don't bother to explain the Madao joke. Translating it to DORK just doesn't work
Gintama gener rating is just like this Action 100 Comedy 100 Sad 99 Arcs 100 Story 100 Fillers 101 Opening 100 Ending 100 Characters 100 Badass 100 Parody 100 Madao 100 Zura 100 i mean when it come to any of gener it has the full mark the complete anime . There is no anime like Gintama
Gintama is something for those who are blessed enough to be able to enjoy.. well.. Gintama. Which sounds ridiculous but I mean its Gintama 😂 Its special. Like you said, you "wanted" to be able to enjoy. Only few are lucky enough to do so and its crazy how you can hear that level of appreciation present when fans of Gintama talk about it.
The sandpaper toilett paper or Popularity episodes were one of the Moments I felt love from a Mangaka. It really felt like he tried to do anything to make us viewer laugh while giving us the feeling that we know each one of these charakters like real friends. Than seeing the dark side of politics and each one of their past. You feel with them and just hope to see them smile again after various war´s
I started watching around 2009, I was hooked episode one and nothing has ever been the same. It's that one anime I lay in bed and think about even so many years later. Still remember stupid stuff that live in my head for days, not knowing that it even came from Gintama. I can not express how incredibly happy I am that you yourself see how amazing it is.
many people say how gintama was boring at the start, It was slow but I never found it boring, I really didnt expect there to be any hard hitting arcs an would have been able to live with it even if it didn't as the comedy was all peak to me
I just can´t put in words how i feel about Gintama, how i love it. There´s many other series i still haven´t experienced but, as a whole, i feel like nothing really comes close to Gintama, all the emotions, feelings, beautiful and actually useful live lessons/messages, plus being great in almost every aspect when it comes to writing. I swear watching Gintama is one of the best decisions i´ve taken in my whole life. What a masterpiece
The thing that has made me actually stick with gintama is the ham processing joke in like episode 15. I was pretty underwhelmed but I howled for like 10 minutes at how quick it hsppened. Hopefully the later arcs are everything theyve been hyoed up to be
I had to pause it when you started talking about Gintoki, I'd really rather read the story myself instead of getting spoiled right now. Thanks for the video
Literally just watched the final movie like a few days ago and this video perfectly encapsulates how I felt about early Gintama vs towards the end. Gintama hits so fuckin hard because it’s a show that DEMANDS time investment since it takes its time to make you care about each and every single character, and it definitely made me stagnate with the show, but believe me when I say I wish I could erase my memory and watch it all over again. As someone who was an avid naruto/dbz fan thru my childhood, as an adult I can happily say Gintama is the greatest piece of media (not just anime) I have EVER experienced. Awesome video, def earned a new sub
Does track starting in the background "That man had eyes too fierce to be a Samurai .... but too focused to be a thug" That scene of the final film just absolutely hit the teenage me that started this journey so many years back.
One of the most lovable thing and unique in Gintama for me is Gintoki and Takasugi relationship. It's so heartbreaking how this two relationship goes after everything that they have gone thorugh together
Gintama funny clips always appeared on fb, and i think, back then, i felt lonely, that's when i think i need to watch Gintama. Now, every time i feel like i need to chill or some advice, if ever i feel sorry or made a mistake. I always think that gin-san made me realize that its normal to make mistakes, have a change of heart, and also to bear the consequences of our mistakes. To sit back sometimes and just really rest. I love how gintama reminds me the reality when i feel like im losing it, and to accept the reality. Gintama is the best for me.
I seriously bawled my eyes out throughout your video man. I love everything you said about the series. Gintama has been damn near the top of my list for well over a decade now. I grew up with it. I used to experience this series with my little sister and we cried, we felt and we laughed so hard that we couldn't breathe. My and my sister used to not get along all that well back in the day but through watching Gintama through summer breaks, weekends, months and years we became best friends. Gintama brought us together like nothing ever did before. Gintama touched our souls too. I am right now in the middle of re-experiencing the series with my girlfriend and while it's still early days she seems to be loving it. Oh, and I guess I'll sub. This video deserves it.
Gintama is the most impactful anime for me, ever. I didn’t expect it AT ALL but here we are. Came into Gintama because I am a fan of Kakashi and so I’ve heard about this guy Gintoki who’s a bit like him, plus it’s a comedy. I started watching it on Netflix, a couple of episodes a day. Before I realized it, I realized my day wasn’t complete without it. I also fully expected the comedy and loved it from the start, but what I didn’t expect was the drama and emotional roller coasters even from season 1. I quickly realized the incredible way the stories are being told per episode. Imagine my delight when I finished all of episodes in Netflix (2 seasons) but learned that there are 268 MORE EPISODES waiting for me. More serious arcs, more character development, more comedy gold, better animation, and I went from 2 episodes per day to 20. I finished everything in 3 months, and up to this day still rewatching it. I even appreciated S1 and S2 more during the rewatch. Gintama is my top 1 and in my opinion, a masterclass at storytelling more than anything else.
I usually don't listen to videos where someone explains what they thought of a show because I've genuinely never enjoyed them but I accidentally clicked on this video and I...I can't explain well like you but there was that feeling watching this video like the time i watch gintama. Gintama is really so special to me that I was a bit shaken by all that. It's precisely because it touched my soul that i was lost, not knowing what to do all of a sudden. The attachment and love i feel for this show is just indescribable and i didn't know how to sort out my feelings. I didn't know how exactly i should move from now on. There was something, something so important that attracted me to gintoki and the cast and i wanted to be like them but i couldn't quite figure it out. In between the jokes, i forget the past gintoki shoulders but it's like you've brought it all and laid it before me in a single video. I'm sincerely thankful for that. I feel like i grew a bit more stronger
Gintama was my first anime, a good friend talked me into trying it. Like others, I did wonder why I was watching, right up until something a bit deeper happens. That's when I realized Gintama was much more then silly comedy, it actually had a soul to it. Anyhow, fast forward 5 years, and I'm currently rewatching the series, and loving every minute.
It's also a big factor how you start it. If someone recommends it to you, you will automatically have a certain set of expectations that comes with disappointment. I didn't have that disappointment because I started the show on my own. I never had that "slow paced feeling" and even tho i didn't fully understand 100% of the jokes (because a lot of it is very based on the japanese language, history and culture and doesn'treally hit the same as a western), nor were all of them exceptionally funny (some of them were weird, but they had the charme of that certain weirdness), I never thought particularly bad about these.
I watched gintama because of your video! Just yesterday, i finished the SA arc and damn, youre absolutely right! Gintama immediately became my top 1 anime and its never gonna be beaten by any other. Its just so SPECIAL! Matter of fact, i had to lower all the anime ratings ive watched in MAL to truly appreciate gintamas greatness. Its absolutely insane how great Gintama is. I just wanna say THANK YOU SO MUCH for introducing me to gintama
I'm one of the people who loved Gintama since ep.1 and I was finally able to watch the final movie today, so I'm extremely emotional. I loved this video essay, it actually made me cry and I'm still shedding tears. Great content!
Thank you for beautiful Gintama review. To this day, I haven't found anything that made me experience an emotional rollercoaster in a span of 1 eps, like Gintama. Its a shame that it is not that popular (internationally) but that's probably one of the reasons Gintama fandom is so chill and peaceful most of the times.
Gintama was such an amazing experience to go through. To this day it’s still my all time best anime ever I truly absolutely fell in love with it when it got to the Yoshiwara in Flames arc.
17:12 "and not for a moment he considers giving up", he did though, and i think thats the beaty of his character, if you remember in the start of the final arc when he was fighting in earth and when he got overwhelmed by his teacher and the aliens, he almost gave up until the shinsengumi came, he did give up before as well when he saw his teachers face, and i am pretty sure at the very start of gintama, before he met shinpachi and kagura he was also at the verge of giving up, and i think that is what elevates his character, he was never perfect, he never outcame anything, he simply as the most of use just tried his hardest to, he always tried to yet sometime he didn't succeed. and that is where the friends he made shine, and that is where gintama's main point for me shows, which is that no matter how strong and how grown as a character gintoki was was, he will always be lacking without those around him, thats why he couldn't bare losing any of them.
Came after watching the final, it was my 2nd anime, and all these years I have rewatched and reread it times and times again whenever I am down or bored. I can really name every character in one go... Really sad I will never get to watch a new episode
gintama is like a person that you will eventually become a best friend with and realizing they means a lot to us, best friend who jokes and keep us smiling, yet their story actually pretty hard and when they open it up and we learn about it, it make us cry hard
If I recall back my "binging time" watching Gintama, I had to force myself for a month to finish the whole series before watching TheFinal and I cried so hard during Shogun Assasination and Farewell Shinsengumi. The beautiful of Gintama is undescribable. I can't explain in details how greatest this shounen anime. I'm glad I found by myself and watched till the end. I'm so glad and grateful for those who watched Gintama. Even the VA itself (Tomokazu Sugita) felt very glad and asked the audiences to watch Gintama (especially TheFinal movie). Not many of anime audiences watched Gintama but if you found this masterpiece, you are in the right track. Go watch and take a piece of moral story (the positive, don't follow Gintoki hshshshhs). You will not regret once you done few eps until you reach the arcs!
I started to know Gintama from my highschool friends (whom i havent been in touch for years) when they told me that Gintama is the best anime they have seen. I was a hardcore dragon ball and digimon fan back then, so i was more into actions rather than comedy thus i also put gintama on watching lists due to it having over 200+ ep at that time, for almost few years. It was until 2017 when i started to watch gintama compilations bits by bits on TH-cam, clicked on them just because i had nothing to watch, and i got hooked by it. I watched more and more comedy compilation videos which brought me to some serious scenes which caught my eye as well. I loved the anime even though i havent even watch it from the beginning but not as much as dragon ball and digimon. It was until 2019 when i decided to watch Gintama starting from ep1, due to the fact that i know how interesting it is, i loved the anime ever since ep1 even though it is a bit lackluster. It was until the yoshiwara arc when i started to love Gintama more to the point that i even placed Gintama above my childhood favourite Dragon Ball.
I started watching this series as a way for me to escape reality, I was depressed and stressed with my life and this anime, the laughs, the slapstick comedies and the tsukomis made me forget everything and rofl, I tried watching it same way you did, but for me it changed my perspective after 25episodes. I love this series with all my heart for it made me laugh and forget my worries.

Gintama touched me in other places, not just my soul...
Ur a goated ass dude. Cool to see you here!
what do you mean by that
ayo?
😧 other places...?
This comment is like a literal embodiment of what Gintama is! 😆
I love you ngl.

One of the reasons I love Gintama because I became disillusioned how hollow other animes are and the gimmicks the anime studios do to waste our time.
Am I the only one who loved this show from the start?
I loved it since the first scene when they were trying to catch that cat.
A class mate in middle school kept telling me about how goofy it is and never mentioned any of the serious stuff
From episode 1
You are not alone!
I loved pretty early on, probably within the first 20 episodes
watched it on tv when i still a kid. Really looking forward for it every week.
That's what Gintama is about, just living through life." - Hideoaki Sorachi (Author of Gintama who wants to be a *cheese bun* )
lol I remember there's a bit of existential crisis before that.
You'll be surprised by how many people don't want to feel genuinely good/happy... most are _horny_
So yeah Gintama is hella enjoyable. If I got an anime to watch my whole life, it's definitely gonna be Gintama. I judge fairly by enjoyment no matter how depressing or dramatic, as long as there's *something.* Berserk and Gintama are the only ones so far that reached my soul, that has *something.*
I've been rewatching reaction videos about it (once in a while for almost 1 year) It's so much fun seeing them laugh at the start only to cry and suddenly laugh again. The embarrassment, anger, and confusion. It feels nice to let your emotions free and see other people like that ^^
Also I watched Gintama first before "Lives of Highschool Boys" and boiii was I laughing my ass off hearing the same voice actors!!
Ah that's it, may you have a wonderful day and hopefully more people get into Gintama, cause they deserve the recognition honestly. From the manga, publishing house, Director, animators, sponsors, seiyuus- they all did their best keeping Gintama going from copyrights xD
It's been really fun all 369 (nice) episodes +3 movies and other specials, love everything to bits.
Berserk and gintama same for me
You just nailed everything.

I picked up Gintama with the right expectations, waiting to see goofy characters doing goofy stuff. I'm a sucker for any kind of jokes, from the dirtiest to the darkest. @@Kolket1389 hell yeah
And one reason why Gintama mean so much for me is because it helped me when I was at my lowest
The Only other anime where I felt the characters that much is Fairy Tail
@@selinbuyukcengiz6873 well said, Kagura definitely deserves the title. For me personally though , all girls in Gintama are best girl.
@@enanqusi Okay, but you're soo right. Gintama has the best female characters, they're not just here for fan service, which is sadly the reality of majority anime. Gintama's heroines felt like real people.

Man writing a 21 minutes long poem over Gintama is what I need after finishing the last movie yesterday. I love you man.
Broo, this is me now
I loved every bit of Gintama all the way through from the first episode, through every movie, till the end and it was an amazing journey.
I'm nearing episode 100 now. I've been watching very slowly because I don't want it to be over!
Respect it. Hope you enjoy it even more as you get deeper into the show.

The complexity and depth of the characters and their relationships is mind blowing to me. Truly my favourite work of fiction of all time.
"The best way to live a full life is to be a child, no matter what your age." The quote by Gintoki hits better when you realize his full story in the past.
Perfect anime does exist, Gintama does exist.
❤BE FOREVER YOROZUYA ♾️💝
Truly a masterpiece. Everything truly is hintes from the beginning. I rewatched it and picked up on so mnay references i didnt acknowledge so many throw away lines. Truly well done.
Gintama on rewatch is an EXPERIENCE.
@@ΙΩΑΝΝΗΣΚΑΡΑΓΙΑΝΝΗΣ-η9π Was all that needed 😳
@@WhyOfCourse OP got dissed, so yes (?)
I mean....whatever's "good" or "bad" has been changing over the years to mean whatever the person saying it enjoys more or less, so whatever show is "best" is an entirely subjective thing so...
Gintama is my #1 show, and it always will be. Everything about it is perfect in my eyes, the characters, the stories, everything.
Underrated comment
YES
I learned so much about Japanese culture from the explanations at the top of the screen.
Had to pause but I love it.
You know it's a crab sub group if they don't bother to explain the Madao joke.
Translating it to DORK just doesn't work
Gintama gener rating is just like this
Action 100
Comedy 100
Sad 99
Arcs 100
Story 100
Fillers 101
Opening 100

There is no anime like Gintama
10:54 best description of character, you manage to understand the essence of Gintama.
What Gintama taught me was honestly something I should've known for a long time. Gintama taught me to just live life however I want to live it.
"Even if you're the main character, you can still die... I better be careful-ttebayo."
-Sakata Gintoki
Gintama is something for those who are blessed enough to be able to enjoy.. well.. Gintama. Which sounds ridiculous but I mean its Gintama 😂
Its special.
Man your video got me emotional 🥲 I am watching gintama currently at ep 10 and I promise I won't quit I want to experience it's magic ❤️
Welcome to the club 🤘
I started watching around 2009, I was hooked episode one and nothing has ever been the same. It's that one anime I lay in bed and think about even so many years later. Still remember stupid stuff that live in my head for days, not knowing that it even came from Gintama. I can not express how incredibly happy I am that you yourself see how amazing it is.
Seen some thousand anime series and Gintama is still the best of all for a number of reasons.
I watched hundreds of anime series, Gintama is still #1 on my list 💯
hands down my favorite anime. nothing comes close.
many people say how gintama was boring at the start, It was slow but I never found it boring, I really didnt expect there to be any hard hitting arcs an would have been able to live with it even if it didn't as the comedy was all peak to me
I just can´t put in words how i feel about Gintama, how i love it.
Hopefully the later arcs are everything theyve been hyoed up to be
Gintama is my therapy
I had to pause it when you started talking about Gintoki, I'd really rather read the story myself instead of getting spoiled right now. Thanks for the video
Loved from the start
The best summary and description of Gintama! Loved every second of this video!! Thanks!
Does track starting in the background
"That man had eyes too fierce to be a Samurai .... but too focused to be a thug"
That scene of the final film just absolutely hit the teenage me that started this journey so many years back.
Man I love Gintama as well bro and I'm glad that you actually posted this video.
I never felt this much attachment to any other show, Gintama is a masterpiece!
One of the most lovable thing and unique in Gintama for me is Gintoki and Takasugi relationship. It's so heartbreaking how this two relationship goes after everything that they have gone thorugh together
The more you love manga and anime... Old and new... The better you will get the references and love it
Episode 305 is the best anime episode I've ever seen man
Me and my brother waited years before watching the last arcs because we never wanted to finish this master piece.
This video deserves it.
i love gintama
This video touched my soul
Right after i finished gintama, no new animes really hit to me, I wanted to watch those old anime more
Shinpachi is glasses lmfao this anime will forever be one of my top anime.
10:55 Shinpachi is glasses that is all, you got me crack up !! 😂😂
You really are built different man, because this video was pure 🔥
