Driving in Costa Rica can be stressful - most roads are narrow, without dividers, and can be in really bad condition. It is recommended to rent an SUV with 4x4 to make sure you will be able to access tourist attractions in remote areas. Costa Ricans are kind and helpful but they do like to drive fast. and not always safe.
