We bought my grandpa’s 100 yr old neglected & hoarded house. We got the same advice about just getting a dumpster and chucking it all. I am so glad we sorted through just as you are, finding so many treasures along the way.
THIS is why you just don;pt scoop everything up and just throw it out. THIS personal stuff from your Great Grandmother's one purse, is awesome and so much on your family, Robert, so happy you found this, and hope you continue to find more history of your family and ancestors as you go and clean out each room, am sure there is a lot more that you have yet to uncover and discover. Looks like a great day for cleaning at the OBF. Can't wait to see more of what you find. God bless..
Awesome finds, especially being part of your family. So glad water or rodents never got to the purse and contents. Benjamin made a haul from the haulway. ha
Robert, Someone is pranking you, who amongst your friends would do that?? Hmmmmmmmmmm. I love the fact that everyone looks out for everyone in your small town and people are mostly quiet spoken. History is everywhere if you take the time to find and research it. I spent summers travelling the country back in 1968 and 1969 and every small town had someone who knew the history and wanted to share it. You are uncovering yours, piece by piece. Cheers, Rik Spector
@@joshuagibson2520 Yup, a simple explanation would be that someone tried to turn the lights on, not knowing they were on a generator. When none of the switches did anything, they just gave up.
I love how excited you are about family history. I got a little scratch notebook of my Granddad's, some handwritten poems from my great grandmother and handwritten recipes from my Granny. No one else wanted things, and I was trying to get to them before they got thrown away. It makes me happy to see someone else feel the same way. Keep looking through every piece-I am enjoying seeing what you find! But you are making me nervous on that floor; the nurse in me is seeing all kinds of injuries from this!
I know the feeling of desperation very well. My aunt lived in the family ranch house from the time she grad college (during WWI) and came home to teach at the local high school. The clutter was very organized, and she kept a clean house - but there were at least 2 trunks holding possessions of family members who died young in the house's basement. They were a time capsule of their lives. My aunt had allowed me to snoop through them when I was about 12 y.o. Fast forward to the clean out of that huge, 5 bedroom,1920s era craftsman style house which I was somewhat rudely invited to not attend. I was sure no one would throw away the contents of the trunks. But somehow no one could recall what happened to my 20 y.o. uncle's love letters with a girlfriend. He was shot over a land purchase he and his dad had been lured into. There were newspaper clippings of the trial of his killer and other of his possessions in one of those trunks. Years earlier his older brother had died in his late 20s, bushwacked out in lawless NM (before it became a state) by his wife's lover. My heart was broken. I wished I'd never known about those trunks. Both young men were my grandmother's brothers. I suppose she kept them from the time of her mother's death. Her dad had moved in with her family a while before he died. No one in our family ever admitted to seeing the letters and papers, or knowing of their existence. I didn't raise a big stink. I 🤐 for 50 yrs. Finally a couple of cousins (sisters) approached me with questions about my grandmother's wedding dress and black wool coat with brown mink collar. Then I knew who had been the culprit hiding the murder trial newspaper clippings of my grandmother's brothers. I always suspected my prim and propper uncle who didn't want anyone to know about family tragedies. I had agreec to meet with these two female cousins around the time of the c-19 outbreak. I took it as a sign. Who knows, they may practice the same philosophy of secrecy as their dad. I don't owe them anything. They still haven't admitted having the contents of the trunks, but I know the wedding dress was inside one of those trunks. I may give them the same treatment. What silly games some play. The purse Robert found caused a flood of memories. Why would anyone think family history should be hidden from future generations? I'm still puzzled.
My mother used her old purses as filing cabinets. Her contents wouldn't have been as historically interesting, but it's nice to know she wasn't the only one who did that. What a great find!
What a find with that old purse. Love the old ration books. I'm glad your taking your time to preserve what you can. Love the book. And even the vintage clothes are a great find. Thanks for sharing.
That’s awesome finding all those cool historical papers. That leather purse is what saved them. I’m much like you, I eat that stuff up. I’m so excited to see what else you’ll be finding. That medicine cabinet ,” be still my heart”. Fell in love with that. Clean it up put a new mirror in it n call done. Happy to see Ben found some treasures of clothes. Wait till you get into the bedrooms. I saw lots n lots of clothes. So happy for you finding your treasures. ♥️♥️😊👍👍🌟👍🎄🐶🐶
That is so cool to find that stuff. My grandparents had historic and antique stuff, but my uncle emptied the house and trashed everything before anyone could go through it. So much history lost!
Sounds like someone took a tour of the Old Byrd Farm last night. Started the generator and took Santa. They were polite enough to turn off all the switches for you. That happened to us. Didn't know anything until the lights were all switched off. They took an antique small table that used to set the light on. That was all.
So worth the slow clean out! Great documents!! And clothes!! I just love when this happens - all the complainers about the contents of the house take note!!! Weird on the lights.. the Creepy Santa obviously has Creepy Elves. Hey, Scott!! ❤ Great stuff, Robert!! 👍👍❣️❣️😊😊

That purse is really very interesting. And the documents in it are very cool. Hello, and what a very interesting find and such very cool antique stuff .Thank you so much for sharing with us take care. Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Hi Robert I needed his muster today. I’ve been trying to put together a twisted Christmas tree and loosing my religion with a he effort. I finally decided to fix my lunch and hope you had a new video posted so I would get away from the tree for awhile. I’ll get back to it but now I’m enjoying this video. I bet some who watches your channel sneaks in and stole funny Santa
You are truly blessed. If I understood you correctly, if is your families home? I really wish I was this blessed. I have been working on our family history for awhile now, years. I have found many cool things, but this is fantastic. I once went to two different local yard sales, I found a year book with my ex mother in law in it, and purchased for her. The second yard sale was around the corner, and I purchased a old book that actually ended up from a past cousin of mine from the late 1880s/1900s. A true treasure, I also have my great great grandma's bible that my 90 year old cousin gave me. He is like you, blessed with his family home, (he grew up in it) that is well over a hundred years old, with so many treasures. Kudos to you!
I think i missed something! Your great grand parents lived there? I don't think I've heard that mentioned before. Im not sure how you stay in there with that propane heater burning. I would be afraid of carbon monoxide poisoning! I told you that vintage Santa was a sought-after thing. Keep digging, I'm here for the show!
You are doing an amazing job Robert! Preserving history is so interesting to me! I love ephemera pieces! Most are absolutely gorgeous because our ancestors were just so intricate and took pride in whatever their skill happened to be! Happy Holidays to the entire olde Byrd farm and sidestep adventures crew! ❤
According to the Selective Service Regulation of 1918, 4A was "any married registrant whose wife or children are mainly dependent upon his labor for support", and "any mariner actually employed in the sea service" (civilians serving in US flagged merchant fleets).
Love it when you did the treasures an go through it with us piece by piece.. now gotta say I wanted you to read the war dept letter in the end but I know you will have a sit down with us later 😉 love your vlogs, thank you for sharing with us
Great find .. those war ration books are awesome. Many folks have never seen those. That war form letter from 1918 appeared to be a WW1 certification letter I think. Wow .. great job
You found some great finds. Those artifacts are important, and it's always great when you can use or repurpose things. I'm sure you will find many more cool artifacts as you go through the house. And I think you have someone, or something in the house with you. Obviously, they don't like Creepy Santa. That and the lights are very weird. Changing things can bring things like this on, although I'm not a believer, but keep an open mind and a healthy skepticism. I still think that Pig Boy had something to do with Creepy Santa. lol. I just love watching these videos. Great job, Robert!
The car in the medicine cabinet looks like an old version of the car from Monopoly. Hope you don't have any sneaky buggers coming into the house turning lights on and off and steeling innocent Santa's

Did the santa fall down between the wall, unless someone is playing a joke,

I believe that the build up was above the chair rail on the wall. you are doing a great job getting it cleaned out.
there is so much history you are finding. my grand mother on my dad’s side had 3 pages of ration stamps.
I heard a funny story about a man who tried to get some gas, they alternated by last number on the tags.
the first day he went it was the even day{but you still needed the stamps} went up the attendant said you can
not get gas today, your plate is odd number, so he went back the next day to be told again, you have an even number
once he took a look at his front them rear tag the numbers did not match! one was odd, the front was even!
Very nice vintage and antiques. Pray it helps someone fill in holes, or gaps in their history.
Most excellent!
Maybe somebody came in the house after you left for the day through the big gap in the floor ?
Very cool finds. I have my grandmother's ration stamp books. Amazing times back then.
Indeed!
It’s great that you are so patient to be careful with looking at everything. Cool stuff!

I am fairly new here. I wanted to thank you for taking the time to search and care about the left overs of another human beings life.
That little car was from a monopoly game. Love it!
I picture Santa walking through there through the night turning off lights and when he was finished he just walked off down the road.
Robert that was a draft classification card from WW 1. There were many draftees inducted into military service for WW 1.
I sure admire your dedication to find every treasure. These videos are fascinating to watch.
That little car is probably a Monopoly game piece. So fun to see the treasures!
Robert, you're so full of Christmas cheer. 😊Merry Christmas.
I thought the creepy Santa would be awesome in that nook, it would scare Scott for sure.
It is odd about the lights and Santa. The small metal car looks like it was from a monopoly set. You found some neat finds
According to the Selective Service Regulation of 1918, 4A was "any married registrant whose wife or children are mainly dependent upon his labor for support", and "any mariner actually employed in the sea service" (civilians serving in US flagged merchant fleets).
Love it when you did the treasures an go through it with us piece by piece.. now gotta say I wanted you to read the war dept letter in the end but I know you will have a sit down with us later 😉 love your vlogs, thank you for sharing with us
Ballew really likes Ben. Funny how dogs can tell good folk from not so good folks.
Great find .. those war ration books are awesome. Many folks have never seen those. That war form letter from 1918 appeared to be a WW1 certification letter I think. Wow .. great job
That you do this sorting without wear gloves..... Old dust and dirt being disturbed... Plz wear protection. So happy to see family history finds.
Yes, I love all the old letters and paper work
Amazing! Great work saving these historical treasures ❤
That shirt with the shoulder pads, I remember shoulder pads during the 1980's, but there older clothes like that too.
Letters war letters
Old photographs
You are doing right
Robert
Thats working to method
The car in the medicine cabinet looks like an old version of the car from Monopoly. Hope you don't have any sneaky buggers coming into the house turning lights on and off and steeling innocent Santa's
Good to see you had some company wi5h your successful treasure hunt. You did good. Annette from west sussex england
Neat save of purse contents Sir Robert.
I think its so awesome what you are doing! Love watching both of your channels .
Mr. Dan has the creepy Santa. Saw him on another post. Maybe Dan flipped the switches out of habit? You never know.
