So the secret is out eh? lol. FL (which I think stands for “film look") has been my go to SOOC Sony profile for a while now. Tbh it looks nothing like what most people consider to be filmic but I personally find it really unique, where you get crystal clear blues and desaturated but punchy skin tones. Out of the box its really too high key and crunchy so I tweaked it a bit. For anyone interested here are the settings:
Contrast: -3
Highlights: -9
Shadows: -1
Fade: 0
Saturation: +2
Sharpness: 0
Sharpness Range: 2
Clarity: 0
To reiterate, it really looks nothing like film. Sony FF cameras are way too clean looking and most of their lenses are too sharp to emulate film but this one is interesting none the less.
@@coreoffour add a 1/4 mist filter to give the image some softness and it will look a lot more like film. I’ve been doing it for a while with my A7IV and now an A7Cr.
@@kriskinsey64 I do and while it can look nice, you can tell its a mist filter and the characteristics start to get overbearing because it just blooms highlights more than anything. Even vintage lenses on a modern digital sensor looks digital though, so I’ve made peace with just letting digital files look digital.
Thanks for sharing I’ll try this out 👌
@@Iamtongue Awesome, hope you like it! I recommend setting the white balance to “white” instead of “ambience” and then tip the color shift to something like A-B: A1.5 and G-M: 1.5 to give it that slightly green-in-shadows and beige-in-highlight tone for that kodaky-vintage feel. Anymore than this can look too fake but your YMMV. Cheers.
Would these work well with Sony A6400?
Luts are the way of the future more universal then just adding to already installed creative profiles/simulations. Hopefully Sony and Fuji provide lut support for photos.
I just recently got an A6700 to “replace” my trusty X-T20. But I’m holding on to the X-T20 until I’ve tried the A6700 long enough to be satisfied with the photos it takes.
Looking forward to more content like this, and hopefully, there will come a Fuji X version for Sony Creative Looks users.
Thank you for sharing! I’ve got great results.
im glad! Thanks for the support
Need a tutorial on how to do this. Which creative style do you use?
I'm a fan of iamtongue and his photos, i love his photos in generell. Watching all the youtube videos for this reason.
What's sooo interesting to me is, is that in all the Sony and Fujifilm comparison videos on this channel i always liked his sample images results with Fuji much much more. remembering x-s10 vs a7iv, x-t5 vs a7cii... I can't say why... Even if Sony are technically better cameras, there is a difference in the look of the photos. i always prefer the Fujifilm photos, even if it was taken by the same photographer.
It wasn't hard for me to guess the real classic chrome in this video, except in two cases
😀
without knowing which was which I preferred the Sony colors. The classic chrome is bland to me. But I get why people like it. I am sure it would grow on me. But I like punchy colors and I feel this would work great for me. Going to give it a go.
The final test would be skin tones imo but great video I caught in a few But that’s because I always customized my film sim I forget what it looks like unaltered.
I feel like Fuji is just gonna look better 😅
I think my biggest concern isn't to have a film recipe that creates similar SOOC jpegs, but to have a Lightroom profile that provides a starting point for raw files in the same way Fuji raws do on Lightroom.
Makes more sense!
The point of the fuji film simulations are not to act merely as filters but to make the colours perform the exact same way as the actual film would in any given condition.
It's really not. I'm a Fuji shooter, and I like some of the film sims, but none of them model the corresponding film closely, and surely they don't perform the exact same way as (any) film, if you ever shot an actual film. And that's without even taking grain/texture into account.
Hi, but where is re recepie?? Thanks
Very interesting. I didn’t know that you can make these adjustments on the Sony. Yes hard to tell! Reds gave it away.
In the new menu.
Ya I didn’t either so it was quite interesting to see for myself 😀
I got all 11 correct. 🙈 Fuji had muted colors & darker shadows, I think Sony's colors were a little too saturated.
Same here 🫣
i somehow pick every sony photo😂 just personal preference
I bought the X-S20 when it came out and didn't like the menus. Went to the A6700 and love it, also saw these tweaks to the color profiles and use them. I've been very happy with it. Love the Lumix S9 also, and it's app integration is better than both Sony and Fuji.
i did the same for AF, the AF was generation behind on the fuji
As a Fuji shooter I would not mind to have all the reciepes accessible for Sony shooters, until I still can have them in my camera :)
I would still stick to Fuji, just love the physical dials, and I don't need fast AF.
More videos like this! Thank you!
Yessir 🫡
Canon and Nikon can do it too 🤔
Real deal is Classic Negative which I don't think there is a way for Sony match that
I came across the same post on dpreview and tweaked the picture profiles per his suggestion. I sometimes find pictures taken with FL style not sharp enought that I have to pump the sharpness to +2. I'll try IN style more.
i actually used this alot on my trip to japan and just shot jpg. I definitely think sony needs to improve their creative style menu and do a better job at marketing this bc the colors do look significantly better than the standard mode imo
Ya I agree with you there!
I don't know. To me it just looks like someone shot Classic Chrome photos and then jacked up the saturation a little in Photoshop. I prefer the more natural and subtleness of Fujies Classic Chrome. Might be able to get the same type of reds as Sony's by messing with the in camera color and chrome settings. I've gotten reds like that on my X-S20. Though It might have been with Nostalgic Negative... Sonys is still great! It's just not my tempo. * steel chair gets thrown at my head * AH SHIT!!!
😂
Man they were pretty similar. Blown away by this. Like you said the reds were a giveaway, and in I think by pure luck looking at the shadows I got a few right. Other then that I got a few wrong.
Not bad for a Sony! I’m impressed
i'd be interested in seeing how this sony recipe performs with their auto WB since thats what most ppl use
Can you please do a night photography comparison of Fuji XT5 and sony 6700, like neon lightings, night portraits etc.
Which would be better in low light ?
Sony definitely is better for low light however I had Sony and I’m switching to Fuji because Fuji cameras are just so different and of course they’re not perfect compared to other camera brands but they are unique and fun to use
Where do you change these settings? If someone can help I’m new with a a7cii
It depends on what xtrans sensor CC. I was 55% right :D Easy was where sky was in frame.
Not bad! 🥹🫣
Tongue, I’d love to see you try and emulate Velvia on the Sony. I’ve tried tweaking picture profiles as well modifying the VV Creative Look on my Sony but can’t see to duplicate the deep blue-green I can get out of my X-T5 using Velvia.
I would love to but I’ll just wait until someone else fiddles around with it. I’m not a mad scientist and I don’t have the time to experiment like this 😂
Interesting post. Have not done this before. Can you share what menu to use to get to this and what the name is of the parameters your actually assign values to here. Hope to learn more. Thank you. Take care.
You have to go into the creative style and adjust the parameters in the order shown on the video.. there is stuff like color, sharpness, fade and etc.
@@Iamtongue Found it. The parameters are:
1. Contrast +2
2. Highlights +-0
3. Shadows -2
4. Fade 0
5. Saturation -2
7. Sharpness 0
8. Sharpness Rang 3
9. Clarity 1
Can you put turtorial, how to use this
Just saw this vid!!! Very cool!!! Will check it out :) thanks 😊

argh! right in the bionz!

Missed my classic neg from x-s10. I'm now using a6700
lol contemplating that exact path, what else do you miss?
@@Rukawasendoh117 Nostalgic Neg is excellent too and the new Reala Ace film is perfect for shooting raw

💁♀️
Since you have a big channel can you get in touch with richie if he can start sony recipes?
he started doing ti recently for nikon since they released imaging recipes
can you make simulation for a6400?...TIA
nope, only with the new bionz XR processor chip.
it's really not that close lol. But at the same time, the people who think it's close can safely buy into sony anyways because after all you can't miss what you don't know. Sony shooters have such a chip on their shoulder that they would take these "proofs" and run away with it.
In the grand scheme of things though, it's not a bad thing. As long as you can be done justifying your equipment choice to yourself, you can then move on to actually take photos which is the point of the whole thing.
This will not work for Sony A6400?
Only with the new bionz xr chip
Hey tongue is this like when sony tries to emulate the default classic chrome? Because how about if classic chrome with -2 h, -3s, -3 color, etc how can sony tweak that classic chrome with those parameters.
I have no idea man 🤣
@@Iamtongue go figure haha that's what I was thinking since I find the genius of the fuji sims are they're kinda like your base recipes then you do your micro adjustments in the Q menu
Can you share where to find the Reddit post? I'd like to try the Leica-look and Ricoh GR-look as well. Thank you
it's on DPreview
@@mdenjoyer831 Got it. Thanks. Did a search for "Unpopular opinion: Sony now has the best JPEG color" on DPReview and found the post
@@mdenjoyer831 I can't find it
It’s nothing new. It’s as close as other people, like Lee Zavitz have come: which is great if you don’t have access to a Fuji camera and just okay if you do.
People have been trying to match colors por quite some time, and yet the images fall apart one way or the other. But it’s great to see some people might get a glimpse of Fuji color.
Having said that, does de lut burn into the raw as well?
Nope it doesn’t. It reverts back to raw

“It has better colors than Fuji!” Then proceeds to try to exactly recreate Fuji colors 😂
Wait a minute… 😳
Can you do this on the a6600?
Does it have the new bionz xr chip?
@@Iamtongue No. The a6600 has the Exmor CMOS sensor.
Are you shooting in jpeg
yes you'll only get the colors baked in Jpgs.
There's Veres Deni Alex who delves deep into picture profiles to create SOOC "film looks" instead of creative styles. As far as I know he's the only one going deep into PP for jpegs.
+1 for this. Would be amazing if someone who mainly shoots Fuji test his recipes for Sony
I’ll give it a go if I can

not shocked by but they do be on copium saying they look the same. At the end of the day it's just preference. still can't match their AF performance tho =/
To the untrained eye there are some similarities.. but for Sony users who want the Fuji look it’s better than nothing 😅
@Iamtongue their FL look is pretty nice. But they just had to compare smh
I did a blind test and just wrote down the letter for the picture I preferred. All except one were the Sony.
Amazing 🤩
nice.. 😅
🤝
yeah but the reds are the most important because of poeple color. thats why i just never like sonys skin color. not even with the a6700 and not without tweaking them in LR...
sony skin tone has improved over the years but can't touch fuji
@@Iamtongue that's what bother me. I really want to like the sony cam but :S
Dammit now the secret is out lol
You mean you’ve been holding out on us? 😮
@@Iamtongue yup. I have an awesome sooc recipe for Sony. I have been gatekeeping like MF.
@@one901 😂😂😂
@@Iamtongue hehehe
I got right on most of them which makes me think you don't really understand Classic Chrome at all. It's supposed to be quite desaturated whilst maintaining good contrast and details and true to life colours. People like Classic Chrome because of the subdued look it gives, not because of the vibrant, punchy colours. Sony images are very saturated and the reds in the flowers image just look "fake" to me.
you can adjust all that in the creative look
I'm a Sony user. I can confirm. When I try to match the color with a clip of a Fuji it was literally impossible to have the same tones in camera
@@mdenjoyer831And you can get even more adjustment latitude by using the Picture Profiles.
you can def tell which one is CC, but they are really close. maybe it is time to switch to sony LMAOOO
