The vile weather has had a huge impact on many sites ...my uncle lives near one in Cornwall and it was nearly empty when he visited a couple of weeks ago. I am loving the vlogs as usual. 😀x

We went to a family run site with just over 100 pitches at the end of July, it was in Padstow Cornwall and was packed out. Really reasonable we paid £225 for 8 nights on a deluxe pitch. I think CMC can be quite pricey and people are starting to realise that and shop around for smaller sites which are a bit cheaper.

Hey don't worry about the rain, a holiday only needs a diferent view out the windows to be relaxing.
Call me a heathern if you like, but I love sitting in a tent while it's raining outside, its a special sort of cozy you don't get at home.
Anyway, I'm enjoying the videos, and being a nosey parker (I always feel a bit like a nosey parker watching peoples video logs)

Hi Dan, on the issue of the empty site, I have a caravan fb page called East Durham Caravan Club and we had a discussion regarding the prices of Caravan and Motorhome club sites. I'm assuming that's what your on. It started when I received an email from cmc telling me an error had been made on my May booking for two nights, I was originally due to pay £44 and the corrected price was £66, it happened to other members on my page. We booked to go to Cromer for August which was 9 nights on a cmc site, has a pool a bar and restaurant which was gonna cost a little over £600 but I thought I'd have a look at some independent sites, I knew Richmond holiday park in Skegness because I stayed there in a static when my youngest was a baby. The site has an indoor pool, shop, gym, arcade, restaurant, hairdressers, play area, football and basketball court, football pitch and a huge show bar with nightly entertainment for kids then later adults. I paid £335 for 13 nights a huge saving, more spending money. The touring part only has 58 all grass pitches and they are huge. We booked last year about June so we got an early booking discount, something you can't do on club sites. The site has been packed all week and I still 5 days to go. Club sites should review their pricing policies and get competitive. I now look at all the indie sites now which I used to never bother just automatically book a club site.h

Hi Dan, interesting about the lack of caravans on site, we've just returned from a few days at a CL in Sussex, the owners said that this year has been the quietest since 1982, quite a few times over the summer they've been entirely empty! It's a mystery, caravanning is more popular so where are they all going!
    Another entertaining blog, thanks.

We love this site and have visited twice this year with another visit due before the end of the year. People tend to use Exmoor House in Dulverton instead. The rain is part of the deal for Exmoor, but worth it as the scenery is amazing :) Try the pies from the cakeshop in Dulverton, delicious, looking forward to my next visit. PS Happy Anniversay

It's my first year in the Caravan club and to be honest it's pretty expensive. This site is £244 for 9 nights next week and we're only paying £160 for the same 9 nights near Minehead non CC site. Things like insurance are too expensive through the club too. I'm yet to see an advantage being a member.

Try a CL - much cheaper, often better located and much quieter than club sites.

Thanks for the replies. We'll have to look at some more. The issue we also had with next week were nearly all the sites were also shown fully booked when we were looking.

we went down Devon the last two weeks of July. We thought it was quieter than usual this year too. Trago mills was really easy for parking at times when it usually is chocker!. Think most peeps have gone abroad this year.

stayed on the same site as you same time. our pitch was above you and yes it seems strange the site only being half full sometimes only 1/4 full but think the weather played a large part in this.
was going to say hello but thought you would like your private time with the family.
    thanks for the vlogs

This one of our favourite sites and can't understand why it is not popular.

An average of £30 a night on that site without child facilitys and club house, I think thats why its probably empty. I think some of these sites are getting out of control because motor homing and caravaning are becoming popular. Some said that durdle door site was £80 a night this year.

BBQ in the rain, that's nothing, try doing it in a snow storm on 1st January. CMC is pricing itself out of the market.. too greedy.. people have less money so are trying to make what they have go further.. so independent sites are getting the business. Thanks for the update.. Congratulations on your wedding anniversary.. we are celebrating our 37th Anniversary tomorrow :-)
